so which is going to be the weaker card 105 or 106? that is rather insane to have two ppv events within a week. I know 105 should be free, but still the idea of two “big” events within a week… so judging by what this post said, vitor gets the next title shot at anderson? wtf is going on, someone needs to be the clear number 1 contender, first it was maia, then the bisping-hendo winner, now its vitor, then in two weeks its going to be “da spyda”, then leben, then bj penn, then brock. get this ****e together!!!

  • Eldiablo says:

WOW!!!! 10 big cards in 5 months. Not too shabby. Now let’s work on getting the UFC in Ontario.

I will say this much, in that with all of the events the UFC is planning both short-term and long-term, and the price point of a PPV, a lot of people are either going to be priced out of the market, or they are going to have to pick up a second, or in some cases a thrid job to “support” their MMA “habit”.
I also think that there is a real danger of “watering down the product”, as well as “strip-mining” the marketplace. I for one would prefer to see fewer, better stacked cards, as opposed to a PPV every 5 weeks with only a few good fights and otherwise questionable match-ups.
So far that hasn’t been the case too often, but it seems to be the direction in which the sport’s flagship promotion is heading. At this point in the sport’s development anything that is bad for the UFC in particular is in all likelihood going to be bad for the sport in general, which is bad for the fanbase and the fighters.

Hopefully Dana White will maybe take a step or two back, and re-assess exactly how many events the UFC annual calendar should contain…

So just a few stories ago you were complaining because you want fighters to get a pay raise, and now you’re complaining that the UFC may be holding too many events. Everytime the UFC holds an event, fighters get paid. If you want “fewer, better stacked cards” that means less opportunity for the non-star fighters to fight, or even get on TV. If they don’t fight, they don’t get paid for fighting, if they don’t get on TV their sponsorship possibilities are cut dramatically.

I’ve seen you say on multiple occasions that you want fighters’ pay to get increased by 25% across the board. The most economical way to move towards effecting that change in some way is to have 25% more events each year, which means 25% more opportunities for fighters to fight and get paid, and 25% more opportunities for fighters to be on TV where they have a greater sponsorship potential, both for that fight, and the future. Also, the UFC makes money on every event, the more events they hold, the more money they make, the more money they make, the bigger the pot of potential income for the fighters.

I think the UFC knows that no matter how many cards they put out a year weather it be 2 or 20. The die hards are gonna get them, the bars are gonna play most of them, and it gives more opportunities for the casual fans to catch one. Insted of thier being one card a month where they might have something else going on, 2-3 weeks later there is another, and as long as there is a pretty big named fighter on it they will likely scoop it up.
Realy the way it seems to be working with PPV buys is as long as you have at least 2 big fights the casual fan is gonna order it just as likely as if there is 2 big fights plus a whole bunch of other pretty big fights that could be headliners a month later. The UFC doesnt have to rely just on Chuck any more to sell PPVs They have Randy,Brock,Mir,Rashad,Rampage,Forrest,Lyoto,Wandy,Franklin,Anderson,Hendo,Bisping,GSP,Alvez,Hughes,Penn,Sanchez,Guida, and a whole bunch more ready to become stars. Some have been around a while I know and some are bigger draws then others but all have headlined at one time or another and done decent to fantastic in PPV buys. The UFC just has so much star power right now, and their using it to their advantage by putting on as many cards as possible. Do you honestly think DAa got this sport to where it is today by saying “you know what guys lets slow it down and be conservative”……….didnt think so.
I can see your point Jcohl but i dont think its right the UFC isnt growing at the pace it has been by wattering down their product. Hell three years ago there would be months in between UFC events(ppv)and years before that only a couple shows a year.
Although i respect you opinions and think you make some great points on here Jcohl. You seem to allways point out the negative in the UFC. Or maybe im just defensive.

UFC 105 in the U.K will no doubt be the weaker card! I would love to see Wanderlai Silva over here but I guess we’ll see Bisping, Dan Hardy and even Al Turk. . . .Would also like to see Steve Cantwell, Jon Jones and Clay Guida in the U.K.

  • Hunter says:

I would love to see Wandy in Britain. He’s my favorite fighter and his name alone would at least make me travel from Glasgow down to Manchester. Plus I’d scour all the pubs trying to find him afterwards!
