Beating Heath Herring was Big Nog’s criteria for a HW title shot. Beating Brock was Frank Mir’s criteria. And just to respond to something you said earlier, you and MK4 have setup Randy as some sort of straw man opponent for Mir when he won the belt, but the fact is he had the belt. Brock still had to beat Randy to become the champion, the belt wasn’t just handed to him. I doubt that if any other fighter had faced Randy and beat him you would be trying to say that he was handed the belt based on the fact that Randy was an inferior opponent, so don’t use that as an argument here.

If you want to talk about someone getting handed the belt, lets look at Randy instead. How does getting knocked out by Chuck Liddell at 205 and “retiring” for a year qualify anyone for a shot at the heavyweight belt?

On the Vitor issue, if he gets one win in the UFC and then a title shot, I wouldn’t compare that to Lesnar, but more like Rampage and A. Silva who came in and got one win and then a title shot, based on what they had already done in their career.

Actually,that doesn’t even matter.Can you name another fighter that made it into the UFC after 1 fight?Any fighters that make it to the big show now are either established in another organization or come from ‘The Ultimate Fighter’.The TUF contestants have to fight 4 times to win the show which is how many fights the UFC Heavyweight Champion has in total.You don’t see anything wrong with that?

If beating Heath Herring is the criteria for a UFC HW title shot, Lord help us all, then shouldn’t Jake O’Brien [if memory serves] been given a shot after he humiliated and exposed the Texas Crazy Horse for not having a clue about sprawl and brawl a few years back during their bout when Herring first entered the UFC? If I recall Herring spent 3 rounds on his back, staring up at the arena lights and trying to figure out how to solve the mysteries of the double leg takedown, which is something usually taught in middle school wrestling programs.
Also, I’m not sure if Herring was actually the number one contender at the time Lesnar beat him. Does anyone have anything definitive on that, one way or another?

Finally, bigchris2328, I’m not trying to give you a hard time about this, I’m just trying to point how just how ridiculous this Lesnar HW championship situation is, and how damaging it can be to the sport later on. UFC contenders need to EARN title matches IN THE CAGE, not in college regardless of how well they did, not at WrestleMania, and not because they might be worth higher ratings or better PPV buy rates.
And proposing that Lesnar somehow “deserved” the title shot because he beat a champion 15 years older and 50+ pounds lighter simply isn’t going to fly with some MMA enthusiasts, particularly those that put the longterm integrity of the sport ahead of its short-term popularity…
