I hope that they do the Taronto Dome in Canada
Russow could make some noise in the HW division
Ha Ha,I think you mean the Rogers Centre, formally the Skydome. That might just be one of the 2 shows in Canada in 2010.How cool would that be.They would definitely break some records.
Also,is it just me or does Fedor seem to be smiling an awful lot lately?
Unfortunate this is imposable.
No MMA allowed in Ontario
Ha Ha,that was wishful thinking.Hey,it’s not impossible-just unlikely.
What did “the massacre” say about the miletich fighting systems? Dude, mcredries has been with them for a while. That’s weird dude he must have said something unforgivable. He should go to greg jacksons camp or ATT.
It’s interesting that swick said he wanted to fight “great guys” after his win over “kill b” and then he says he wants to fight matt hughes? Does he want an easy win? or does he really want “better” fights and “top contenders”? I’ve always liked hughes but it’s obvious that he can’t and will not be able to hang with all these young, talented, well rounded ww’s. I say give swick kampmann.
Even though i think franklin pulled off the win, by points, it shouldn’t have been a unanimous victory. Maybe that’s why wanderlei wants a rematch. A rematch wouldn’t make sense and wouldn’t be appealing imo. The way franklin looked sat, don’t think he’s going to be making any run @ the toughest title to get.
It would be kool to see either fedor or barnett in the ufc’s heavyweight div. With all these dudes though, i’ll believe it when i see it.
Jazz, the toughest title to get isn’t the LHW title, helll Lyoto hasn’t even defended it yet, the most difficult title to get imo is the MW title, that guy has had it forever..
I do however agree about Swick calling out Hughes, really? Yet there is a problem, he can’t call out Fitch or Kos and with Alves facing GSP who exactly is he going to call out Karo? I think a helll of a fight for Swick is either Kampmann or Condit and that should happen imo….
Some people can see that Wanderlei won that fight on Saturday, and I think a fight on the Main Card mid way through would be an awesome rematch but I also would like to see Wanderlei (some how) lose 10 more pounds and cause a ruckis in the MW division a nice fight would be against the loser of Bisping and Hendo….. Either way I get what I want back to back losses (possible KTFO) for Bisping, or another bout with Hendo
I doubt that Urijah will fight against this year……….
60days for AA wow
Drew getting droped might have been a blessing in disguise, hell he wasn’t doing that great with Pat anyways… *off subject kinda* If a training camp doesn’t evolve how does the fighters they train evolve? Pat seems to stick to the same thing over the last 8 or so years and well has lost Hughes, Lil Evil etc… the Miletich camp seems to be rather bland as of late imo
Barnett back in the UFC would be interesting but unlikely, both the UFC and Barnett have their issues with one another and have been rather vocal about them, but hey money talks BS walks
I understand what you’re saying about Matt Hughes not being a top competitor anymore, and I agree (even as a fan of Hughes). That said, he’s still a big name, and a win over him by Swick would catapult him to the top of the division, and possibly put him in line for the next title shot.
Pretty interesting about McFedries. I don’t know what he said, but odd that he would talk bad about a camp he was still a part of. I do agree with you FR that MFS has fallen off, most of their former top guys have left and/or fallen off. In addition the rest of the MMA world has gotten better. Perhaps that is more a reflection on the fighters as individuals and not MFS as a camp. That said, there are a lot more top camps for guys to choose from these days. Jackson’s, Xtreme Coutrure, Wanderlei’s, Mir’s, AKA, ATT, Minn. MMA Academy, Wolfslair. Five years ago that list was at most half that big.
I was at UFC 98 and Drew after his fight made some pretty harsh comments about his camp stating that” he was very disappointed with them because they werent there for him during his tough time.” He also talked about their lack of loyalty. He made these remarks during the Rogan post fight interview. Im not sure if they televised it tho…
I remember that now. Thanks.
that sucks i wanted to see BOBBY LASHLEY’S name on the cast for tuf 10
We’ve been telling people for weeks that wasn’t going to happen. He is fighting Bob Sapp June 27th. He can’t fight Bob Sapp June 27th, if he’s filming TUF in Vegas, which started filming June 1st.
Yeah, but Lashley should totally be on TUF.
Gee, thanks dbiz. Just give them more fuel why don’tcha
Yeah, because they need SOOOOO much help…
I higly doubt fedor will be in the ufc anytime soon in the next two years. as long as barnett is competitive against fedor, bring barnett over when his contract is up. he cant do anything negative to the ufc hw division. franklin cannot hang with the top 5 at 205, and should just stay at 185. depending on how silva does against forrest I think silva will stay at 205, there are more lucrative fights against the top 5 at 205 for silva. I know he wont fight machida but rampage, rashad, shogun will make for an interesting fight with A. Silva.
mcfriedes will gain so much from going to ATT or greg jackson’s if either team takes him. even couture’s team. am I the only one that thinks there is more than meets the eye with randy being in gina’s corner? randy and his good looking wife just divorced/seperated less than two months ago… it was all gina’s fault!
the only two great guys [maybe 3] at ww are gsp, alves, fitch. neither of them will fight swick until he beats a top 5 guy. hughes-swick should be a nice tuneup for swick before he gets a shot at one of those three. kampmann-swick is good, even swick-condit, swick-serra should be an easy win for swick, maybe swick-kos. swick wants to fight at the dallas, texas event in september. he could get the 3rd match on tv, or maybe the co-main event against hughes.
Swick v any AKA member will not happen, unless you go and watch them spar here in Cali
“lucrative fights” in the LHW division for Anderson Silva? His PPV rate might jump a little but his contracted “wage” is what it is @ anyweight…. And ofcourse with the “champions clause” in his contract he does have to defend the MW title til he loses or Dana realeases him due to retirement but that won’t happen ask Mr. Couture bout that.. there is my 22.89cents
yeah fr702, i have to agree with mw being the hardest title to get. i meant to say lhw is the toughes, imo filled with great guys, and imo, franklin isn’t going to get to the top in that div.
Having said that, like i said, swick vs kampann is an awesome match as far as “top contenders” go. Condit, should get hughes or now, since he “beat” davis, hardy.
A bit off subject, but i’m still campaigning for aka ww’s to fight eachother. I don’t understand why dana publicly said that if jardine had the chance, he would make him fight evans, yet nothing has been said about kos, fitch or swick fight eachother when that is a much greater possibility. Swick, kos and fitch are all top ww’s and if they do keep doing well, it’s going to be inevitable (wiishfull thinking).
Jazz, I think that having (imo) some of the top WW’s in the world in one camp is part of the reason that the WW division feels very stale…. Perhaps Dana could make them fight one another, I also believe that if that were to happen Swick would be the first to leave the AKA, and I think that Fitch v Swick would be a whole lotta awesome rightthere, tho it is “wishful” thinking I don’t see it happening anytime soon…
Obviously 205 is the easiest belt to get…a half-a-dozen guys have held the belt in the last year or so!
(not there’s anything easy about doing it!)
Although the chances of aka ww’s kos, fitch and swick fighting eachother are very slim doesn’t mean that they shouldn’t fight eachother. It’s clear that they are more than just “training” partners, but it’s also clear that they are all gunning for the same title. Well atleast swick and fitch are. I think the way swick has been talking lately, that he wouldn’t have a problem fighting fitch or kos if he had to. Let’s say swick got a shot @ the winner of gsp vs alves and that fitch ko’s the **** out of paul thiago. And let’s say (lightning striking) that swick beats either alves or gsp and fitch was given a title shot(very likely scenario) then are they not going to fight because they’re from the same camp? The answer is yes, they would fight. So…they can fight for the belt, but not fight to get to the belt? This will never happen so like i said before* wishfull thinking*, but seriously, anyone think I have a point?
Back to the topics @ hand. Yeah, i definately said it wrong before. The 205 champ seems to change every title defense, so i take back what I said earlier. The article read that “dana wants rich to make a run @ the 205 title” and imo that being a joke, meant to say the division is too tough for franklin to climb to the top.
If GSP get’s passed alves, that title will also be very hard to attain, because imo alves is right now, the only dude capable of handling gsp.
I know i know “tell that to serra”. Right now…it’s going to be tough to take gsp’s belt if thiago can’t.
As for mw, anderson’s got some hungry and worthy competitors headed his way with some great jitz games so we’ll see.
I know that Hughes is still a big name, but he has taken quie a beating lately by GSP and Alves. His chin seems to be a lot weaker than before and he doesn’t look as strong as the old Matt Hughes, so i don’t know why Mike Swick wants to fight Hughes when Swick is talking about fighting “better competition”. Hughes is an all time great but he’s past his prime and i honestly feel that Swick wants a fight with him ONLY to take a short cut to a title fight because everyone knows that Hughes has little to zero standup which Swick obviously feels will get him an easy win. Mike Swick just beat Killa B who i felt was a legit challenge for him,but Killa B is not a top guy. I don’t know why Swick wants to have an easy fight like Hughes if he wants to be the best and fight the best because i guarantee that if Hughes was the old Hughes Swick would not be looking for a fight with him.
As for Mcfedries getting the boot from MFS, he should just look at this as an opportunity to try new styles of training and just work with new people that can show him different things and problably help him evolve his game a bit more. Mcfedries is a talented guy and can benefit from a lot of different camps out there so like fr702 said, this can be a blessing in disguise.
Wanderlei should just move on from this fight with Franklin and be happy he had a great battle because he’s moving down to 185 and Franklin is staying at 205> Wanderlei for sure can do some damage in that division and make a run at the title so he should just focus on that for now and not worry too much about a rematch with Ace Ventura Pet Detective look alike.
I don’t see Josh Barnett coming back to the UFC because they have issues with eachother that might effect his coming back AND i honestly don’t think he’s going to beat Fedor anyway.
I don’t think Barnett will beat Fedor, and I’m not sure on Dana’s sincerity in that statement anyways. I think that he probably knows Barnett wouldn’t come back to the UFC and was just saying that in hopes of getting under Fedor’s skin enough to get him to cave to the UFC’s demands.
yeah Justin your right, i didn’t think of it in that way. As a fan, i hope that somehow Dana and the UFC can get Fedor to cave in to their demands.
While I would think that almost any Anderson Silva fight at this point would be lucrative, it bears mentioning that in order to keep the MW division viable the UFC needs someone to actually beat Silva in the cage, if such a thing is possible, especially if he’s going to adventure into the LHW division. If he retires with the MW belt, thats one thing, but if he’s going to hold the MW belt and take these LHW “superfights” for the remainder of his career, the next MW champ after him [Franklin?] is going to come across as weak tea.
I also have to think that it’ll leave a bad taste in Franklin’s mouth if he goes back down to MW because Silva is in his way AGAIN, this time at LHW. That sort of thing weighs on a guy’s mind IMO.
I do wonder, and ask the question at large: does anyone consider either Franklin or Silva a top 5, or even 10, LHW? Maybe Silva if he beats Forrest Griffin?
Finally, if Josh Barnett defeats Fedor, and returns to the UFC to compete when contractually able, I would assume that I had unknowingly used 2 of my 3 genie lamp wishes, and hold onto the 3rd for something non-MMA related…
Silva will not make a run at the LHW title. He and Machida are friends and Silva has said on numerous occasions that he will not try to take it. So it doesn’t really matter what Silva’s ranking is, he’s not taking that fight.
As far as Franklin goes, he get a little bit of leeway because of his abilities at middleweight, but he still needs to beat someone (or two) to be considered a top contender. If you’re looking for a future Griffin fight, it’s with Franklin, not Silva.
DUH griffin is fighting silva in august.
DUH, it’s a fight with no belt ramifications the way a Griffin-Franklin would have. Don’t be condescending when you have no basis for being so (he says ironically…since no one else will figure THAT out).
Since Silva isn’t leaving MW, his point stands. And you come across as a bit of a jackass.
I think Rich should fight Cantwell or Luiz Cane to try and realy test him. If he beats one of those guys then maybe a match with an available top contender or big name fighter would be good if they want him to have a run at the title. Swick should just fight Kampman. Or Anthony Johnson if he heals up in the next few months for UFC 103
cantwell or Cane???? Cane maybe. Cantwell just lost to Cane so to have him fight Rich would be a slap to rich after fighting Wandi.
Lot’s of good points made, but for real why is Mirgliotta still a ref? I’ve heard recent criticism on Yves Lavigne on the eye poke to Thales Leites, but are you kidding me? Anybody with half a brain could obviously tell that Al Turk got poked. That win is completely tainted now because of Mirgliotta’s poor reffing. I think Cro Cop would have won regardless, but now it’s questionable. Ridiculous.
yves has made far more mistakes than dan m. even though it was an eye poke, turk was hurt before it. it had very little to do with cro-cop’s victory. as much as I would like to see AJ-swick, AJ is a step down in competition for swick, swick is at least a top 6-8 ww maybe higher, and although AJ is talented and could be the future champ, he is unproven. swick has nothing to gain from fighting AJ.
I have to disagree bigchris.. Swick has been in the UFC alot longer than AJ but neither one has faced TOP competition yet so it’s not a fair assessment to say swick us top 6-8 and AJ is unproven at 170
I personally think this would be a good fight to see who deserves to be in the upper crust of the 170lb division.
Swick’s only losses were to Leben and that guy that won(win is a win technically) against Anderson that will never get a rematch. Those were also at middleweight. Doesn’t help that johnson was submitted by a lightweight…
Swick has earned a step up and Johnson needs to have that one win that catapults him up to that top echelon of fighters.
I’m pretty stoked about the full TUF roster. Only two guys who are undersized in that bunch in Blackledge and Schoonover BUT Schoonover did beat Rex Richards who was the one NFL guy I thought had the best shot to do well. I guess this confirms Arsdale as a coach with Evans? Got a lil worried when he was on the vblog before Faber-Brown, nothing against him but he’s way beyond his prime.
Man skydome = shatter all UFC attendance records.. that **** seats over 50k.. and they would fill it.. I see $$ signs in Danas eyes already..
