Tim Sylvia Weighs In at 310 Pounds For MMA Fight Against Ray Mercer

Tim SylviaFormer UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia weighed in at an astonishing 310.6 pounds on Friday in Birmingham, Alabama for his Adrenaline III headliner against former boxing champion Ray Mercer, who tipped the scales over 50 pounds lighter at 256.6 pounds.

Sylvia weighed 263 pounds for his most-recent bout at Affliction: Banned last July, adding nearly 50 pounds to his 6-foot 8-inch frame over the past 11 months. He’ll need to shed the additional weigh in just under two months to reach the 265-pound heavyweight limit for his Affliction: Trilogy matchup with Paul Buentello.

Sylvia and Mercer were originally scheduled for a boxing match in New Jersey, before the state declined to approve the contest, forcing it to be moved to Alabama where it was changed on Thursday to MMA rules after the boxing bout was deemed illegal.

Notables Jeremy Horn (204.8) and Rich Clementi (170.2), both UFC veterans, were on weight for their respective matchups.

wow just simply wow, Timmmehhhh is making a mockery of himself

  • timcat says:

Sorry back on topic. Timmy needs to find a new camp. You must evolve in this sport and it seems to me that he is just treading water with MFS.

    • fr702 says:

perhaps but the thing is that he took this fight just for the money and didn’t believe that it would be a MMA bout, and really no one cares if he lost a boxing match, so he didn’t train nor cut weight and just looked for a pay day and would begin training for Paul after this piece of shhhh ended…. I hope he gets his block knocked off

  • ryanmoney says:

310lbs!! whoa, im a good christian lad but jesus christ! haha

Thats 100lbs more than me and I thought I was big.

  • Dietrich says:

For the spectators sake I hope it ends in 1 because I don’t think either one put in any roadwork….

  • j.cohl says:

    310+ pounds?!
    Really?
At this rate Sylvia’s next opponent should be Bob Sapp, or Butterbean, or that giant Korean guy, fighting in some sort of super-mutant class in Japan, instead of Paul Buentello.
I guess Sylvia really is done with his self-professed pursuit of more HW MMA gold, and has decided to leverage his dwindling UFC “cred” for as many paydays as he can score before he’s blackballed or relegated to something like Bully Beatdown.
Best of luck to him, I’m sure he has bills to pay and mouths to feed.

As to the evolution comment, I would only like to add that while yes the fighters most definitely need to constantly evolve/improve to remain competitive in today’s MMA, IMO it’s at least as important for the camps who churn these fighters out to evolve as well.
Does anyone really think that much has changed in the last decade over at Pat Militech’s gym, or John Hackleman’s? Maybe they have, but it would be hard to prove by their fighter’s recent in-cage performances.
Apologies if this comes across as fighter/trainer bashing…

Jake Shields was on Bully Beatdown. Hes a top 5 WW and wasn’t “relegated” to the show.
