Rich Franklin and Wanderlei Silva at UFC 99 Press ConferenceAll 24 UFC 99 fighters, including headliners Wanderlei Silva and Rich Franklin, successfully made weight on Friday at the Lanxess Arena in Cologne, Germany for their bouts, which take place at the venue on Saturday and air live on pay-per-view.

  • I’m So pumped for this event. Every fight has it’s own uniqueness to it, every fight you can say has something personal behind it. Germany is getting a first class card for their first show. I just hope to see great fights. Most of these fights have potential to be fight of the year.

    • carls says:

Im taking wandy in this one. Although I do think that franklin is the better technical striker, it just doesnt seem like he hits as hard or as often any more. Both guys chins aren’t great but I think silva has the power to put Franklin away. I see Rich controlling the range and scoring well, but eventually he will find him self in the danger zone and get put to sleep.
Cain and Congo is going to depend on how good Check’s takedown defence is. If it stays standing im taking Congo but as soon as it starts to hit the mat im going with Cain by decision. Cant realy pick a winner here thow.
Crocop isnt much of his former self but should have enough left to deal with the likes of Turk.
Saunders poses some threats for sure but i just dont feel his hands are good enough to deal with swick. Mike has been a premiere striker for years and years now. while Ben not to long ago was struggling with c and d level fighters on TUF. Sure he has improved but just not enough do deal with a highly motivated swick.
Davis has the edge in my mind in all aspects of this fight, cause even if it doesn’t go his way on the feet he’l out class Hardy on the matt.

  • bigchris2328 says:

i agree mk4, wandy can always be depended on for pushing the action and slugging it out, I have yet to see a fight where he is a counterpuncher, the man never backs down, he may get rocked but he will still stand in front of you and fire away.

I want to see how cain reacts with kongo, this is cain’s first big test and it will be interesting to see how he fares. hardy and davis should be awesome, I doubt it will get past the first round, and it will be good to see cro-cop back in the octagon.

    • yeah bigchris2328, that’s why Wanderlei has been so successful, he always comes to fight no matter what, and i think that unlike a lot of fighters, Wanderlei isn’t afraid to take some risks and get inside to score a finish even if it means he might get knocked out.

Dan Hardy better back up all the talk because Davis is coming to put a hurting on him, but this fight should be awesome like you said. And Killa B vs Swick should also be awesome, i think that Swick is greatly underestimating Killa B,i’m not saying Killa B is the greatest or anything, but he does pose a decent threat to Swick.

I think that Cain is a bit too green to be facing a top contender like Kongo who has already had some big profile fights and that might get to Cain when he gets inside the Octagon, but this looks to be one of the best if not the best card of the year so far.

      • Jazzkok says:

        exciting fights all around dude!

Yeah dan hardy is not top ten or as good as davis, so he’d hella better back all the **** he’s been talking or this could be his last minute in the spotlight. Someone is hella going to sleep in this fight.

I want to see wandy come out agressive again, but not leave himself open for a big shot. I think he’s going to try and clinch up franklin like anderson did. If he does, then it’s lights out for franklin cuz we’ve all seen wandy’s knees.

I agree with mk4. Swick is overlooking saunders and dude we could see swick get jardined.

I think kongo will overwhelm cain and finish him with a tko, but i think cain will take it to him and really test kongo.

Al turk…i feel bad for the dude. Cro crop is pumped and focused and i just think cro cop is going to bully him and beat the **** out of him.

  • Dr.doom says:

Wand just needs to throw that huge head at him ….. holy sh!t man . I got Wanderlei winning by 1st round ko …… he looks like he’s ready to go .

  • snizzle says:

What ever happened to the Buffer vs Rogan match?Anybody got any info on this fight?

  • Joesama bin rogan says:

I found some info on this, but wanted to confirm. Does anyone know when this will air in Utah?

    • Justin says:

3PM/12noon EST/PST and 10pm/7pm EST/PST. Utah is MT right? So, 1pm MT and 8pm MT.

      • Jazzkok says:

is this the “april fools day” buffer vs rogan fight? it’s really going to happen? i thought it was an “april fools” joke. Is it going to be on spike?

      • Joesama bin rogan says:

much appreciated. I will now void my bowels due to the immense anticipation for ufc 99!

  • j.cohl says:

I like Franklin [most likely by decision] in this fight, mostly because IMO he needs it more. If Franklin loses at 195, is stonewalled by Silva at 185, and knows damn well not to screw with the watered down heavyweights at 205, he really has nowhere in the UFC to go. IMO if Wand loses, he’s still got the cred to score more fights on his way to a proposed MW match-up with A Silva later on.
It seems like Cain is a real underdog versus Kongo, but I’m still not sold on Kongo’s MMA “Superman-hood” just yet. Maybe if he short-times Cain, I’ll be a believer, but I still need to see him dominate a decent grappler to buy in.
If CroCop comes to fight, and can finally get over himself and adjust to a cage, where actual modern-day MMA bouts are and should be held, he’ll most likely decapitate Al-Turk in less time than it takes to write about it.
Swick and Saunders has “fight of the night” potential IMO.

Really looking forward to this one…glad it coincides with the opening of my swimming pool, the firing up of my grill, and the arrival of several cases of Negro Modela…

  • Franklin is a slow starter and he always feels out his opponents before attacking, he never attakcs right away so i don’t know what he’s talking about when he says “as soon as the bell rings i’m looking to throw some hands” because he never does that. Wanderlei on the other hand always comes at you right off the bat, but i think that this time he’s going to play it a bit safer because he doesn’t want to get ko’d two times in a row again, especially in the 1st round of his first main event in the UFC.

I see Wanderlei beating Franklin, i sensed some overconfident signs in the recent pre-fight interviews from Franklin. He indicated that Wanderlei is just going to come out swinging reckless and just look to land a big punch, he’ll see that’s not true when Wanderlei clinches him up and brings back some old demons from Franklins closet and destroys him with knees. I honestly feel that Franklins lack of killer instinct is going to cost him the match and get him ko’d. He does however have that strong straight left punch that if landed on Silva’s jaw can put him to sleep as we have already seen proof that Silva can no longer take a big solid to the chin punch. I’m rooting for Silva because I want to see him possibly fight A. Silva in the future.

    • carls says:

Although i know what wandy means by first main event, he still was the main event with tito at UFC 25 the one in japan. I agree with you MK4 that franklin is going down check out my post at the top.

      • yeah dude i checked out your post and we pretty much agree. I honestly feel that Franklin has lost his killer instinct that he showed when he first came to the UFC, he was way more agressive and looked like he really wanted to beat the other guys down, but he doesn’t look like that at all, maybe the fame kinda tamed him a bit. AND i didn’t like how he used all those excuses after losing to Dan Henderson, cuz everyone knows that Henderson clearly won that fight eye poke or not.

      • carls says:

Realy man? Just when i was agreeing with you 100% you had to go and say that buisness about Henderson beating him, although i dont think he needed to complain about it so openly(hell hamill hasnt said anything yet)he still beat henderson in that fight. I dunno if youv’e watched it recently but ive got Hendo with the first, Rich with the third and a close second that realy depends if you go off of Hendersons takedown and L&P or Richs stiking. I took Rich. Watch it again if you havnt seen it recently. Either way it was a realy close fight that was good for Franklin cause he didnt want to coach anyways or fight at 185 again.

      • i did see the fight recently and although it was close, i still feel that Henderson won. Rich did come out stronger in the third, but i have Hendo winning the first and edging out the 2nd, but i guess that’s how i see it. Other than that we still agree on most things, but i’ll check the fight out again to see if i missed something.

  • GarRule says:

There’s always at least one upset of every show…any ideas?

I honestly can’t pick one. Maybe Hardy if he gets in a lucky shot. I hope not.

    • Justin says:

I say Hardy or Velasquez are the top picks for an upset. Wandy v. Rich is even to me, as are KillerB vs. Swick and Fisher v. Uno, so regardless of who wins I don’t think it would be an upset. The only other clear favorite that I can think of (from the main card anyways) is CroCop, and I think he will win.

      • Justin, i agree with you, as much as i want to se Kongo fight for the title, Velasquez can pull off the upset, but i still feel that his lack of experience in big fights will play a role tomorrow night.

And if Hardy scores the upset i feel it will be due to Davis’s emotiaonal state which will distract him from foucussing.

      • i totally mis-spelled emotional :D

    • Jaymz says:

Can’t see Hardy getting an upset but could definitely see Velasquez pulling off a submission.

  • Jenkinsss says:

Seems like everybody is picking the main event to end by KO. So just for the hell of it, im gonna say the Franklin wins by split decision.
I think the wanderlei is going to be more cautious than usual and i think it might cost him, i think the only way he can win is if he goes in there and swings for the fences and rocks Franklin early in the fight. Otherwise i just see Franklin picking Wandy apart with his kicks and counter punching. I also think that training with Anderson is really going to pay off if the fight does go to the clinch. I dont really know who i want to win. One thing for sure is that i dont want to see either of these guys lose again.
Oh…and i think Cain Velasquez is in for a rude awakening hahaha.

    Franklin via split decision
Kongo gets the win via 2nd round tko

    Swick via TKO 2nd round
Davis via sub (Armbar) 1st round
    Fisher via UD
and just for the hell of it…. CRO-COP wins via KO(head kick) 1st round

  • L1E4X5 says:

Not to talk crap, but if Rogan where to fight Buffer…I hope Buffer wins and annoucnes his own win! HAHA. Wanderlei is going to pressure Franklin, just don’t leave yourself open! Davis, destroy Hardy, and I like Swick but im going for the underdog Ben Saunders. What can I say about CroCop…just win dude!

(That was borderline so I took it out. -Justin)

  • E-ROC says:

Though I think Wanderlei will play a bit safe by his standards, he’ll still come forward with aggression. Wanderlei Silva is still a straight ahead fighter who throws looping punches while Franklin plays the angles and throws straighter punches. I’ve got Franklin winning it in the third round by a KO, specifically a leg kick to the head.

  • bigchris2328 says:

two things i forgot to mention earlier and I havent seen anyone post it yet. rich doesnt handle the muay thai clinch well, and wandy has thrown some of the best knees ever, (rampage 1 and 2) even though wandy hasnt used his Muay Thai clinch often in the ufc, I think his corner will advise him to do it. they should imo, and the second thing is I dont see why the countdown made a big deal out of rich training with A. Silva. A. Silva and wandy were teammates 5+ years ago, wandy isnt the same fighter that he was back then, he has matured, yea he really hasnt been successful in the ufc, but he is a different fighter. I fail to see how that would help rich in this fight.

also since dana said in the countdown that if wandy wins against rich and A. Silva isnt too beat down from forrest they could fight later in the year, does that mean wandy gets the next title shot instead of the hendo-bisping winner?

hopefully kongo ko’s cain with a headkick and cro-cop beats turk the same way. I think if there is an upset tommorow its going to be cain beating kongo, but who is the favorite there? I thought cain is the favorite so if he wins is it really a upset?

    • carls says:

The reason i dont think anybodys mentioned Wandy’s clinch game is because it kinda goes without saying. Even thow its not like he uses it anymore. But i guess weil see. The whole thing with Anderson is just to potentially hype a fight with the two silva’s. I realy dont think in one week Anderson is gonna change Rich’s game all that much. Cant hurt though. Ya what Dana said about Wandy maybe getting a shot was interesting. It seems like everyone and their mom wants a shot at Silva, and Dana’s playing eenie meenie miney moe, or waiting for someone to realy hype up.
Cain and Kongo are pretty even in my mind i dont see any upset there if Cain wins

      • Jazzkok says:

If cain were to win, it would be considered an upset being that kongo is like 1 win away from a title shot and because this fight is widely considered by everyone to be cains “first big test”.

I have to agree and say that rich has way more to lose. Rich has been pretty much forgotten @ 185 and completely overshadowed by anderson silvas reign and dominance over 185. He’s coming off a loss @ the 1 division he has a chance in, and if he loses to a guy trying to drop from 205, where does he really stand? Fighting against eric schaefer?

Back to possible “upsets” for tomorrow night. If there is to be one, my prediction is, ben “killa b” saunders upsets mike swick. Swick has already made plans in his head to face gsp or thiago…he should be more focused on a young, hungry and dangerous striker like ben saunders(not that i’m overrating him).

        Can’t wait dude!

      • OnlyTrue1 says:

        Jazzok what up baaahhh!!!

You took the words or type the words out my mouth or computer, which ever. About Rich franklin. Where does he stand???

Personally like Rich, and I see him beating Wandy, with foot technique and movement and straight left punches! He imo will be the stronger of the two.. Rich had problems with A.Silva because he said A.Silva was just as strong as Timmmehhh sylva. Sooo I dont think he will have that problem with Wandy…

If Saunders beats Swick that is an upset!!
If Cain beats Kongo that is a serious major upset!!
        We shall see.

        Jazzok why did you steal bigchris2328 avator????? {ha}

      • carls says:

I just cant see Saunders as that big of a threat right now. Granted if he beats Swick then he’s got all my respect, but until then all ive seen is wins over b and c level fighters. Where as swick has been fighting and knocking off top competition for years now. Okami is ranked as the #2 MW right now by a lot of people(not me)and swick gave him a good fight. At the same time Saunders was strugling with a d level fighter in Dan barrera on TUF and at the Finale. So ya if Saunders wins to me its a big upset, considering how close Swick is to a title shot.

  • bigchris2328 says:

jazz you stoled my avatar, I want you banned from frenzy for life!!!

im just kidding, I personally dont think swick can hang with either gsp or alves, both will murder him. i would rather see swick-fitch or swick-kos. dont call out the top 2 dogs in your weight class until after you have beaten a top 5 guy, just words of advice for swick. killa b is dangerous and the dude has some good knees, swick needs to be careful. id also like to see him fight anthony rumble johnson, I know AJ hasnt fought a top ten guy, but he has some damn good strikes.

  • eldiablo says:

Swick’s going to be dangerous at 170 now that he’s used to it. Not Alves or GSP dangerous, but with one more good win (assuming he beats Saunders) I wouldn’t be surprised to see him contending.

My heart says Wandy, my mind says Franklin. I’m going with my heart today and begrudgingly betting once again on Silva for the win. I pray Silva will be a bit more passive in this fight cause Rich’s strikes are dangerous.

The whole card is sick. It’s a shame I’m working til 6 today and catching the late play. It’ll be tough not accidentally catching the results.

  • j.cohl says:

I guess because everyone else has way too much common MMA sense to say it, I will.
I think there is a small but distinct chance that CroCop simply is unwillng and/or unable to make the mental and physical adjustments from ring-fighting to cage-fighting and may get “Gonzaga’ed” by Al-Turk.

    Just a random thought…
