Current UFC Light Heavyweight Jon Jones has faced trash talkers before in his career. Rashad Evans, Chael Sonnen and now Daniel Cormier. According to the champion, it does not get to him. It just makes him more motivated to beat them.
“It makes it more interesting,” Jones said. “The more people talk, the more inspired I am to beat them. I truly do believe this is going to be a great performance on my part. I believe that it’s going to be a dominating performance on my part, and it’s going to be due to all the motivation he’s given me.”
Jon Jones (20-1) has an 11 fight winning streak. He defeated Maurício Rua via TKO to win the title in 2011 and went on to defend his title six times with wins over fighters named: Quinton Jackson, Lyoto Machida, Rashad Evans, Vitor Belfort, Chael Sonnen and back in September against Alexander Gustafsson. He is coming off a win over Glover Teixara at UFC 172.
“I wouldn’t say he’s bringing things to the table I haven’t faced before,” Jones said. “I’ve been against many different styles, and everybody brings something to the table. I’m just comfortable in this position.
“It’s a big, bad, scary wrestler, and I believe that it’s the hard that makes it great. I’m excited for this hard challenge that I have ahead of me, and I really believe it’s going to bring out the best in me.”
The two are set to face off in the main event of the show, which goes down on September 27th.
