Carano-Cyborg Winner To Be Crowned First Strikeforce 145-Pound Women’s Champion
The winner of the anticipated August 15th matchup between Gina Carano and Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos will be crowned the first-ever Strikefore 145-pound women’s champion, the promotion recently announced.
Carano-Cyborg, which will feature 5 3-minute rounds as opposed to the 5 5-minute rounds of male title bouts, headlines the Showtime-televised card, which takes place at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California.
The event is also slated to feature a rematch between Strikeforce lightweight champion Josh Thomson and Gilbert Melendez as well as a heavyweight championship bout pitting current title-holder Alistair Overeem against Brett Rogers.
Tickets for the event go on sale to the public beginning at 10am ET on Monday, June 15th.

This is assuming, of course, that Carano can make weight and that Guyborg can tuck efficiently.
Carano struggled to reach 140 in EliteXC but should be okay for 145 I think, but Cyborg could still be of concern, especially considering how much she missed weight by last time and that fact that she has to hit 145 with this being a title bout. Whether they’ll be able to make weight is definitely going to be a top story leading up to the fight.
It should be in the contract that GuyBorg’s “package” should be taken into consideration if Carano comes in a few pounds over…
I think that Cyborg is going to destroy Carano. She has that Wanderlei Silva thing going on “women style” though. Carano is hot as hell, she can fight, but i think that Cristiane Santos is going to overwhelm her.
Have to disagree.It took Cyborg 3 rounds to beat Hitomi and that was practically a lightweight fighting a bantamweight.She won’t bully Carano like that.

finally Josh and Gilbert will face off again to unify the title, well I won’t believe it til the weigh ins and it becomes official… Josh has pulled out of his last two fights due to injury soooo we shall see..

I truly envy you West Coasters with your abundance of MMA shows. I have to settle for semi-illegal Native reserve shows (go Dan Severn!!!!) and costly road trips. Oh well. Kind of makes them more special when you only get to few….kind of……not really.

Ya kinda spoiled if you can make it to the fights here in Cali… Helll I have been to StrikeForce events just got back from the WEC on Sunday and going to this event(StrikeForce Gina v Cyborg) as well… I’m lucky enough to be able to do these things but here in central Cali we also have PFC (Palace Fighting Championships) which is one of our local (native) casino’s that put on shows regularly….

In August, I will just say that I expect to do some crazy writing in the Forum section… Can’t wait…. but If I don’t do it tonight I should be able to late Saturday or early Sunday…. FYI: Espn is announcing that Strikeforce informed them that the rounds will be FIVE minute rounds as well. About time…..

The e~mail sent to me by StrikeForce clearly states that it is 5 3minute rounds… unless something has changed recently I would believe StrikeForce themselves…
