After losing to Chris Weidman at UFC 175 for the UFC Middleweight title, Lyoto Machida is seeking his next opponent. He has one guy in mind and that’s Luke Rockhold.
“I had no injuries against Weidman, after the fight I went back training moderately. In September I’ll start working hard and in October I’ll be able to have a fight. It’s up to the UFC to choose my opponent. I would like to face Rockhold. He’s a former Strikeforce champion, I respect him a lot. I don’t dislike him, we get along well, but it’s a fight that makes sense for both of us and for the fans, once we have good ranking positions and think on the belt, said Machida.”
Machida (21-4) Has eight knockouts, two submissions and eleven decision victories. While he has been knocked out once, submitted once and lost by decision twice.
Machidamade his UFC debut way back in 2007 where he beat Sam Hoger via unanimous decision. He beat Tito Ortiz and Thiago Silva leading up to his title win over Rashad Evans where he beat him for the Light Heavyweight title via KO at UFC 98 – Evans vs. Machida on May / 23 / 2009.
After winning the title, he would defend it once, but then lost it to Mauricio Rua.
In his next six fights he had a record of 3-3 and then decided to drop down to 185. He made his Middleweight debut against Mark Munoz where he beat him via KO at UFC Fight Night – Machida vs. Munoz on Oct / 26 / 2013 and then beat Gegard Mousasi in his next fight via unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night – Machida vs. Mousasi on Feb / 15 / 2014.
“I haven’t thought after my bout with Weidman about leaving the Middleweight division, not for a second. I want to still test myself against top 10 guys. Beside Rockhold, there are other fighters that I want to face but they have fights scheduled.”
He lost to Chris Weidman at UFC 175 on July 5th in a Middleweight title fight. While this fight is not confirmed by any means, we will keep you posted on the latest.
