Junior dos Santos wanted to fight Alistair Overeem or Josh Barnett next as he tries to make his way back to the top of the division, however now, JDS is looking at a new opponent.
“They are challenging me to promote themselves. I had two dates to fight Overeem. First, he was caught in a drug test and then got hurt. I think that he’s saying this to give an answer to his fans. There is no sense of him talking about this now, he also has an opponent to face.”
JDS was suppose to face Stipe Miocic in September, but had to pull out of the fight due to injury. Now, Miocic will be a featured fight at UFC Fight Night: Mousasi vs. Souza, on September 5 against Ben Rothwell. JDS had this to say about Miocic in a recent interview with Tatame.com.br:
“They (UFC) will likely put me to fight against Miocic because it’s a bout that they wanted. I truly believe that he’ll be my next opponent. I think that it’s a good idea. It would be nice to everyone watch. Two good Heavyweights, good boxers to punch each other. I think that the fans would enjoy it.”
In JDS’s last four fights he is 2-2. He beat Frank Mir via 2nd Rd TKO, then lost to Cain Velasquez via Unanimous Decision in December of 2012. He beat Mark Hunt via 3rd Rd KO in May of 2013 and then lost again to Cain Velasquez via 5th Rd TKO in October of 2013.
