UFC President Dana White announced at the UFC on Fox 12 post fight presser that the original UFC 176 PPV main event which was canceled due to injury has been rescheduled to take place at UFC 179 on Oct. 25 in Rio de Janeiro. Of course that main event is a rematch between featherweight champion Jose Aldo and Chad Mendes.

Aldo (24-1) is the UFC’s second-ranked pound-for-pound fighter. He has won his last 16 fights. He last fought at UFC 169 in February, beating Ricardo Lamas by unanimous decision for the featherweight title.

Mendes is 6-0 in the UFC with a 16-1 overall MMA record and ranked behind only light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones in the organization’s pound-for-pound rankings. He has won his last five fights. The last time he challenged for a UFC title and his last lost was against none other than Jose Aldo via 1st Rd KO back in January of 2012.

No other details have been given out, but stayed tuned to the site for the latest.
