Former UFC Interim Heavyweight Champion and former PRIDE Heavyweight Champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira spoke with MMA Fighting.com about his recent surgery and wanting to fight one more time while people think he should not.
On his recent surgery: “I had surgery four weeks ago, and I’m doing fine now. ACL surgery takes at least five months to return to fighting. I’m doing physical therapy now. I know the limits of my body. I won’t get myself injured again. I can do other things. I ride bikes and work out every day, but I can’t train yet.”
On still having what it takes to fight in the UFC: “I still have what it takes. I will return next year. I have plans to be in shape and fight again, for sure. I want to recover first, and then I will see how I feel.”
The 37-year-old Brazilian wants to compete at least once more inside the Octagon. Nogueira (34-9-1) has lost his last two and is just 2-4 in his last six overall – with all six defeats coming by either submission or knockout.
