  • Eric Shapiro says:

Seeing Kimbo on there is such a trip.

  • Jason N. says:

Does anyone know what Kimbo is sayin?? Good lord…in just under 2 minutes on that clip, he said “you know what im sayin” 19 times!!!

I just hope he backs up his talk so that everyone out there will know what he is sayin…

I have a feeling, what Dana is talking about at the end, is that they will get it passed in NY – i hope atleast, but other than that – I havent heard any other rumors…

    • micjasbro says:

why would the meeting be in Las Angeles, fot NY legalization? just asking.

      • Jason N. says:

I have no clue – It could just be an announcement for an event in CA – but he said it would change things for the MMA forever..and being able to fight in NY would do that…financially, I think… like I said..just a guess…no clue…just hope its not a new line of action figures!

  • micjasbro says:

dude, these upcoming announcements are killer! They never live up to the hype! Now I’ll be anxiously awaiting this UFC chang…, no MMA changing announcement, just to be dissapointed to find out it’s something lame. But that hope is still there till we find out otherwise.

  • Chris says:

I heard 2 rumors of ufc buying affliction and ufc inking a deal with espn or hbo.

    • Justin says:

Affliction I have my doubts, because again, they wouldn’t get fighter contracts, plus Afflictions contracts are non-exclusive.

ESPN has Bellator so… I dunno about that one.

HBO maybe, they almost had a deal before, but HBO wanted to control production and Dana said no. Maybe Strikeforce on Showtime has made HBO more willing, but I doubt it. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

  • Justin says:

Seeing Kimbo on there was definitely interesting. I think that his presence on TUF will definitely cause a ratings boost, allegedly there are some other surprises for this season so… we’ll see.

In regards to the bit announcement that will “change the UFC and MMA forever” I wonder if the UFC is in the final stages of a network TV deal. It’s hard to say. I have no reason to believe it has anything to do with NY, because if it did, as micjasbro pointed out, that meeting would have taken place in NY. It’s hard to think of things that would change the UFC and MMA forever, but I think a network TV deal for the UFC could rank up there.

    • chrisl says:

Not to mention any talks of NY would actually be pointless since it’s up to NY’s legislature and any meetings w/ specific members of NY’s legislature trying to influence them would be illegal and of course that’s what MMA needs ;)

I think TV deal maybe, I could really see a Japanese deal also.

  • Andrew says:

ESPN does have a studio in LA.

  • bigchris2328 says:

maybe the big news is the ufc bought out the other promotions and within a year all the fighters will be under contract with zuffa… I can dream cant I?

it could be a network tv deal, but spike already carries the ufc as well as on friday nights UFC unleashed airs on KCWX here in san antonio. cbs tried to do mma with elite xc, and that failed miserably, although I think it had to do with the fact they held a card once every 6-8 weeks. I doubt cbs or another major network(nbc, abc, espn) would want to risk it again. I know the ufc and elite xc are different, those morons in charge at the networks dont know that though. I wish espn would carry the ufc even if its after midnight just show unleashed or something, they show golf, poker, bowling, and the freakin spelling bee. 4 things that have no buisness being on tv IMO.

    • Justin says:

CBS will be carrying four Strikeforce events this year. EliteXC on CBS did not fail, proElite failed. They pulled in over 4 million viewers the two times Kimbo and Gina were on the card, which is a million more than anything UFC on Spike has done.

      • carls says:

Those ratings are crazy if you think about it. What with the size of the UFC’s fan base and all, compared to a new promotion like eliteXC at that time. I think kimbo pulled in alot of african american viewers that normally wouldnt tune in. and Gina got some female viewers. That was probably a big part of it. It still bugs me when some of my “realy” casual fan friends ask about kimbo every time i bring up MMA.

      • Justin says:

You also have to consider that on CBS ProElite had 2-3 times as many potential viewers as UFC on Spike has, just by based on the availability of the station since it is an “over the air” station.
