Sokoudjou on DREAM 9 Victory: I Should Have Stopped
“It’s just one of those moments where – you know I lost two fights in a row, and I was in a state where I told myself, ‘There’s no way I can lose this fight.’
“I got [Nortje] on the ground, just like I thought I would do, and I was pounding and I didn’t want to stop. But I should have stopped.
“There’s no bad blood. He’s been nice. We’ve run into each other, and every time he’s always been a gentlemen. I feel like a douchebag doing it. I’m really sorry for it.”
– In an appearance on Inside MMA, Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou discusses his DREAM 9 victory over Jan Nortje. Sokoudjou finished off Nortje with ground and pound early in the opening round at the May 26th event, but continued to throw several extra punches after the referee intervened to halt the contest.

Maybe quit the roids and you’ll be fine
That does sound like a classic roid rage incident. If there was no prior history between the two for bad blood and he didn’t do it as a reaction to overcoming a horrible losing record (since he’s won a few since leaving the UFC).
The apology was good, they are never bad, but there needs to be some measure taken to punish him for the act. Maybe there is and I don’t know about it.
That is his first win since leaving the UFC with a losing record. He lost to Babalu at the last Affliction show.
heh. I stand corrected. Fore some reason I remember him having a win in between the UFC and Affliction.
He should feel like a douchebag for doing that, he sure looked like one when he did it. At least he apologized, though, that’s good.
At least he admits it was wrong, whe i first saw that fight I couldn’t help but think he was just really excited about winning a fight, i told myself maybe that was a reason for him to continue throwing punches, but he did look like a douche. It reminded me when Renatu Sobral choked out David Heath and didn’t want to leg go till he went out…but Skoudjou said he’s sorry so that’s cool.
True about the Heath incident. And Dana still hasn’t forgiven him for it. Though he was in the crowd at UFC 96.
I really didn’t like what Sokoudjou did at the fight, but I think this is the first time in MMA history a fighter has actually admitted to being a douchebag. Kudos Sokoudjou.
