UFC Fight Night 45: Cerrone vs. Miller Play-By-Play Coverage & Results

CLAUDIA GADELHA (11-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) VS. TINA LAHDEMAKI (5-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC)

Round 1: First fight of the night, Gadelha – Tina, let’s get it on. Gadelha presses early. They exchange in the pocket and Gadelha lands a good jab. Tina is starting to bleed from her nose. Gadelha clinches, lands a series of knees to the body of Tna and they fall to the ground. Gadelha on top, Tina makes her way up the cage, but slammed once again by Gadelha. Now, Gadelha is in guard and landing strikes from top position. Gadelha stands up, trying to find a spot, she passes and slides back into top position. Gadelha gets into mount, and Tina gives up her back. Gadelha fires away, trying to get a finish. She rolls over and is trying to sneak under the chin of Tina with a minute to go. She is locked in a neck crank, and Tina keeps up her good defense going to the second round.

Round 2: Gadelha has teeth marks on her arm, ouch. Tina lands a leg kick, but eats a big left hook. Gadelha clinches and gets a big slam. She transitions into guard, round one here we come. Gadelha slides Tina over to the fence where she keeps the pressure on. Tina rises to her feet, still has her back on the cage while Gadelha stays on her with a waist lock. The referee breaks it up, this get’s some boos. Two minutes left, Gadelha lands a nice counter shot, which she has been landing all fight. Gadelha follows it up with a nice combo and Tina is starting to show the beating she is receiving. Gadelha clinches, Tina lands a few strikes, but Gadelha lands a big right hand. They keep it standing to end the round.

Round 3: Third and final round. Both girls come out and are swinging for the fences. Gadelha shoots in, but Tina defends it well and they go back to standing. Tina is starting to open things up, more kicks which is what she is known for. More trading, until Gadelha get’s a takedown and is doing what she wants while on the ground. Gadelha slides into side control, where she continues to lands strikes. Gadelha stands up and lets Tina get up as well. Tina is trying to finish with the closing seconds, but this one goes to the judges.

Result: Claudia Gadelha takes the decision (30-26, 30-27, 30-27)

YOSDENIS CEDENO (9-3 MMA, 0-1 UFC) VS. JERROD SANDERS (14-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC)

Round 1: Cedeno lands a solid leg kick right off the bat. Sanders throws a leg kick, but Cedeno lands a massive right that drops Sanders. He jumps all over him, and Sanders is trying to survive. Sanders recovers and gets on top position. He is just trying to hold on. Cedeno sweeps and gets on top. Cedeno works the body with elbows which leads to getting into the guard of Sanders. Cedeno is starting to land big shots and this leads to him getting into side control. Cedeno fires away, but this one is going to the second round. Sanders is having problems walking to his corner after the bell rings and this one is stopped by the doctor.

Result: Yosdenis Cedeno def. Jerrod Sanders via TKO (injury) – Round 1, 5:00

ALJAMAIN STERLING (9-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) VS. HUGO VIANA (8-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC)

Round 1: Sterling open things up with a body kick. Sterling kicks the leg out from under Hugo. However, Hugo lands a right body kick that drops Sterling, but Sterling quickly recovers. Sterling goes for a superman punch, but Hugo counters to knock Sterling back to gravity. Hugo reaches enough where Sterling get’s a double leg takedown. Hugo tries to get to his feet by working up the cage. Sterling stays on him while in top position. Hugo eventually makes his way up the cage to his feet, and they break with 1:30 to go. Hugo misses with a soccer kick. Both mixing up their strikes quite well. Sterling looking for an ax kick, but nothing landing. They exchange to end the round.

Round 2: Sterling clinches and presses Hugo on the fence. Sterling stays on him, but Hugo transitions out. Sterling grabs a hold of Hugo by a single leg and takes him down. Sterling transitions into guard half way through the round. Hugo get’s to his feet, but eats a big kick to the chest. Huge lands a big left hook, Sterling shoots in on a double leg and gets the takedown right into side control. Sterling puts Hugo on the fence where he gets the back of Hugo. Sterling stays in control until the bell sounds.

Round 3: Sterling lands a single leg takedown almost right off the bat. Impressive. Sterling is in half guard, Hugo rolls through, but Sterling is all over him and get’s mount. Sterling works over Hugo in this dominant position. Sterling grounds and pounds, Hugo tries to buck him, but Sterling is landing and landing at will, which get’s him the win.

JESSAMYN DUKE (3-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) VS. LESLIE SMITH (6-5-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC)

Round 1: They exchange right out of the gate. Smith with a big right hand that hurts Duke and it makes her start to bleed. Duke goes to the body, but Smith lands a left hook. She follows it up with a nice combo. Smith throws a kick, but Duke catches it and lands a flurry of rights. Smith fires back, her back Duke, into the cage and is all over Duke. She swarms her and Duke falls while holding her stomach. This one is over!

Result: Leslie Smith def. Jessamyn Duke via TKO (strikes) – Round 1, 2:24
Division: Women’s bantamweight

PAT HEALY (29-19 MMA, 0-4 UFC) VS. GLEISON TIBAU (28-10 MMA, 13-8 UFC)

Round 1: Tibau comes out and lands a big right to Healy. Tibau lands a big right and this makes Healy a bit wobbly. Healy is trying press and really find a way inside. Tibau get’s a double leg takedown that he then transitions right into side control. Healy makes Tibau get into his guard half way through this fight. Tibau lands strikes while he tries to pass. Tibau lands a big right hand and Healy holds on to recover. Healy get’s to his feet off a scramble and we go to the second round.

Round 2: Tibau grabs a double leg and gets the takedown. He transitions into side control, Healy get’s to the fence and works his way up to his feet. Healy breaks out and we go back to striking. Tibau lands a left jab, they exchange with Tibau getting the better of the two. Healy presses, but the reach is getting to him. Tibau attempts a double leg takedown, but stuffed. Tibau lands not one, but two quick jabs that stuns Healy. Healy clinches and puts Tibau on the fence, but Tibau reverses and gets the outside advantage. They break and exchange to the sound of the bell.

Round 3: They trade body shots, but Healy presses Tibau on the fence. He looks for a single leg, but quickly lets go when it is denied. Healy on the outside, applies pressure on Tibau and looks for a way to get the takedown. Tibau stays strong and slides out half way through the round. Healy once again clinches and puts Tibau on the fence. Completely different round for Tibau. They break once more, Tibau is back peddling. Tibau lands a big double leg takedown, but Healy get’s to his feet. Healy grabs the right leg of Tibau, trying to get the takedown. However, Tibau reverses and they battle it out for the last thirty seconds.

Result: Gleison Tibau def. Pat Healy via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)

LUCAS MARTINS (14-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) VS. ALEX WHITE (10-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC)

Round 1: Martins lands a big right, he lands another left jab that hurts Martins. He hunts him down, Martins is back peddling. White counters with a right, he lands a left hook. They exchange in the pocket. White is trying to get something going, but Martins doing a very good strike avoidance in the stand up game. Martins have landed a big elbow, then a flurry of strikes that follows. Give it up to White, who has a heck of a chin. Martins is swinging for the fences, but White is staying in this fight. They exchange to the bell.

Round 2: White keeps throwing spinning back fist and it’s not working, not landing at all. Martins pace has slowed, but is staying out of the way of white’s strikes. They exchange kicks to the body, not a ton of action in this round. White lands a flurry of strikes that drops Martins, but Martins get’s right back to his feet. White is starting to find his groove, but Martins clinches for a moment to cut down Martins momentum. They exchange to end the round.

Round 3: Both men start throwing haymakers to kick off his round. White misses a flying knee and falls, he get’s back to his feet. Martins lands a huge right hand that drops White immediately and the referee jumps in while Martins ground and pounds White. And this one is over! Good god!

Result: Lucas Martins def. Alex White via knockout (punches) – Round 3, 2:08

JOHN LINEKER (23-7 MMA, 4-2 UFC) VS. ALPTEKIN OZKILIC (9-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC)

Round 1: John lands a nice combo, that makes Ozkilic back peddle. Ozkilic gets a double leg takedown, John back to his feet and this allows Ozkilic to get his back. Ozkilic transitions into half guard. John get’s back to his feet, they go back to exchanging. John presses forward and they start trading haymakers. Ozkilic attempts a shoot in, but defended while by Lineker. John goes for a double leg, and gets it. Ozkilic right back to his feet and they trade to the bell.

Round 2: John has the reach which leads to move strikes landing and made Ozkilic nosebleed. John goes for a double leg takedown, but stuffed and Ozkilic runs away. John lands a nice left jab that is doing some serious damage. John starts working the body in a mix of his newly found strikes. Ozkilic is pressing forward more, which leads to some great exchanges.

Round 3: They come out just where they left off in the second round and that’s throwing haymakers. John lands a nice combo where it hurts Ozkilic, but Ozkilic runs away, which get’s the fans to their feet. What a war! Lineker continues to land a body/head combo which has been a big deal in this fight. They continue to exchange all the way to the bell with the fans (Me included) loving every second of it, but with ten seconds left, Lineker drops Ozkilic with a left hook and that is it!

Result: Alptekin Ozkilic via TKO (strikes) in the third round

JOE PROCTOR (9-2 MMA, 2-1 UFC) VS. JUSTIN SALAS (12-5 MMA, 3-2 UFC)

Round 1: Salas lands a big right, that follows with a knee to the face of Proctor. This leads to Proctor nose start to bleed. Salas is pressing forward and really landing more strikes that Proctor. Right now, Proctor needs to slow down and recover. Salas presses forward and clips Proctor. Salas goes for a single leg takedown, but stuffed and they go back to striking. They exchange to the bell.

Round 2: Proctor’s left side of his face is extremely swollen at this point. Salas is landing a left hook, a right jab combo that is really paying off at this moment of this fight. Salas get’s a double leg takedown, but Proctor get’s right back to his feet. Salas clinches with Proctor and keeps him on the fence where they trade knees to the body. Off the fence we go, Proctor clips Salas and swarms on him. Proctor lands a knee to the face of Salas. They exchange in the pocket and Proctor hurts Salas again. He finishes him with ground and pound!

Result: Joe Proctor def. Justin Salas by TKO (Strikes) at 3:27 of round 2.

LEONARDO MAFRA (11-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) VS. RICK STORY (16-8 MMA, 9-6 UFC)

Round 1: Mafra lands a body kick and a flurry of strikes that stuns Story right off the bat. However, Story lands a double leg takedown to answer Mafra. Story is in half guard, where he goes to work on Mafra. After a minute or so of work, Mafra stands, but only to be taken down immediately from Story. This leads Story to tell a story with his fists. Story works over Mafra from top position. Mafra get’s to his feet with thirty seconds left, but only to be taken down once again by Story.

Round 2: While Mafra has the chance, he starts swinging, but only to have Story take him down with a single leg. They scramble around leading to Story slamming Mafra off the fence to the canvas. Story works over Mafra with elbows and strikes, which ultimately leading to a choke for the win.

Result: Rick Story def. Leonardo Mafra via submission (arm-triangle choke) – Round 2, 2:12

EDSON BARBOZA (13-2 MMA, 7-2 UFC) VS. EVAN DUNHAM (14-5 MMA, 7-5 UFC)

Round 1: Both guys quick on their feet, moving and grooving, exchanging and getting the heck out. Evan shoots in and goes for a double leg, but stuffed and they go back to striking. Barboza stuns Evan with an elbow and then lands a big body kick that drops Dunham and this one is over!

Result: Edson Barboza def. Evan Dunham via TKO (strikes) in round one.

DONALD CERRONE (23-6 MMA, 10-3 UFC) VS. JIM MILLER (24-4 MMA, 13-3 UFC)

Round 1: Cerrone lands a knee to the gut of Miller, but Miller shrugs it off. Miller lands a nice combo early in this one. Cerrone lands a big knee to the body of Miller, but Jim clinches and puts him on the fence. Cerrone escapes, but only to be taken down once again. Cerrone get’s up, Cerrone lands a straight right. Miller eats a knee to the gut, Cerrone lands a head kick. Miller clinches, he puts Cerrone on the fence and connects with a takedown. Cerrone reverses and get’s to his feet almost immediately. Miller lands a big right that has Cerrone stunned, but Cerrone presses on to the second round.

Round 2: Cerrone kicks Miller in the gut and he tries to finish, but the referee steps in and gives him time. Cerrone lands a leg kick, he is starting to open up with kicks and aiming at the body of Miller. Cerrone lands another body kick and it hurts Miller again. They exchange, Miller is back peddling. Miller shoots, but Cerrone sidestep him. Miller lands a nice overhand left, he is starting to fight back with inside leg kicks. Cerrone hit a major league head kick and drops Miller. HOLY! This one is over. What a head kick!

Result: Donald Cerrone def. Jim Miller via knockout (kick) – Round 2, 3:31
