Emelianenko-Barnett Official to Headline Affliction: Trilogy; Fourth Event Planned for East Coast
On Friday, Affliction officially announced its third event, “Affliction: Trilogy”, which will take place on August 1st at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California and features a main event pitting WAMMA heavyweight champion and top-ranked heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko against challenger and former UFC champion Josh Barnett.
Though no other matchups were confirmed, Gegard Mousasi, Ben Rothwell, Renato “Babalu” Sobral, Tim Sylvia, Mark Hominick, Dan Lauzon, Chris Horodecki, and Paul Buentello will all be in action at the event, according to the card’s official poster (pictured at right).
Contrary to previous speculation, “Trilogy” won’t be Affliction’s last event, according to Affliction COO Michael D. Cohen, who revealed to MMA Fanhouse that a fourth event is being planned for late-2009 on the east coast.

Barnett v Fedor might actually happen, I won’t believe it til I see it in the ring honestly
have to agree Eric, the name being trilogy really leads me to believe that this is it.
When you consider the state of the economy, and its dual impact on Affliction as both a clothing company and promoter of MMA, I’d say it’s highly likely that Trilogy will be their last event for the foresseable future.
Why do lot of ppl hate affliction?
Ok I don’t hate Affliction, I absolutely am not a fan of their business practices and their arrogance… I’ve bout every Affliction card and will do the same on this one, Tom Atencio is not the best business minded individual and has no issues stabbing people in the back just to get an extra dollar….. The other douche that use to be “running” the company is a thief, a woman beater who was prego, a minipulator of the elderly for $$ drunk/druggie= worthless waste of air…. Affliction clothing boomed due to the UFC fighters sporting it and the backing of Dana White and all of a sudden Atencio desides that he will start Affliction MMA to compete with the UFC and guess what they have been losin money ever since that decision…
That is partially why I DISLIKE Affliction…
I love MMA and will watch trainwreck events just for the possibility to see something awesome (Brad Imes gogo for example)….
I just don’t like their business practices….

I know one thing, if anyone in mma right now can beat fedor, its Josh Barnett, and anyone who disagrees hasn’t seen what he can do. Style wise he matches up perfectly, and he can take a punch.
It’s quite simple,the guy who beats Fedor is going to be the guy who fights Fedor when Fedor doesn’t come in to the fight like normal Fedor, because as long as Fedor is “Fedor” i don’t see anyone threatening him.
But yeah i know Barnett is a quality fighter that can beat Fedor if Barnett comes in focused and fights the perfect fight.
Affliction is way pathetic dude. Everytime they put on a show it’s like they are hanging by a super thin thread. It’s like they’re hella deperate to find some way to make it happen. They always change the dates and what’s even more pathetic is that we hear all these rumors about how they will hold their event on the same day as a ufc event just to get more publicity. They scramble to find “names” for the event and they push the dats hella back just so their boy fedor could be on the card. Wow, just throw in the towel atencio, you’ve beyond embarassed yourself dude. Paul buentello? Dan lauzon? Tim sylvia?? I’m a huge mma fan but dude, i’ll pass…

I don;t always say that the #1 guy in X division is not unbeatable, and i’m not saying that Fedor is unbeatable, but if he beats Barnett who else is going to challenge him outside the UFC.

ok we all know who will win this ,fedor ,easily. i dont even know why barnett is fighting him its pointless ,he wasnt even ranked until he beat pedro rizzo who is knowere near the top ten. people seem to think gettihng the chance to fedor makes you good but thats REALLY not the case obviously. and i aswell really dislike affliction, donald trump is involved in it and he’s a horrible oiley man,also the manager beat the sh*t out of a pregnant woman i heard. theyre just sh*t, the fact that fedor is with them makes me like him less.

Barnett had done quite a bit since Rizzo, he beat Nogueira, alexander emelianenko, mark hunt, and put on some good fights….he was another pioneer in mma, when an mma career didnt mean sh@#*t. Hes a tuff wrestler and I think if he clinches with fedor, doesnt let him win in in the scramble before taking him down…he has an opportunity to grind out a win, if he fights the perfect fight….though fedor is the best in a scramble and his sambo and knock out power are sick….but all the same Josh is not the chump u make him out to be.

It seems people are treating the organizations the same way they treat fighters; they have their favorite and they hate everyone who challenges their favorite.
