Rumor: Lyoto Machida vs. Mauricio “Shogun” Rua Possible for UFC 103
On Thursday afternoon news broke that Quinton “Rampage” Jackson had passed on a title bout against Lyoto Machida to take on Rashad Evans later this year, likely at the UFC’s year-end show in late-December. Now, according to rumors, Machida could meet Mauricio “Shogun” Rua in September in the main event of UFC 103.
Rua was in the UFC offices earlier this week and may have been negotiating to fight Machida at the fall event, which is now rumored to take place in Texas and currently lacks a main event.
The winner of Jackson-Evans and Machida-Rua would then meet next year.

WHAT?! They gave Lesnar a shot at the title after his second UFC fight! And he only won one of those fights! Mir took him out on his first fight. So technically, we can say if Brock Lesnar had a UFC record of 1-1, then why can’t Shogun get a title shot with a record of 2-1?
SHOGUN!
yes lesnar got the shot but from a business perspective that was a great decision…this is not a great decision from any prespective!
Lesnar proved he deserved it when he beath Herring like Fedor beat Nog and then took the title. Shogun barely beat Father Time and got submitted by a striker.
Haha, father time. True, but that wasn’t Nog’s 3rd fight in MMA. I also agree from a money standpoint, it was the best move. But it just makes me laugh when people say he dosen’t deserve it. I agree that Rampage should be next, but if he has to wait, why not let someone else try, he’ll always have the next shot!
dbiz are you serious Lesnar proved he deserved the title shot after beating Herring are you $hitting me.. then you compared Lesnar’s won over Herring to Fedor winning over Nog.. what a stupid comparison “Fedor and Nog” Legends in the sport. If you were to compare Lesnar’s win over Herring to any fight it’s like Anderson Silva Vs Chris Leben where its a good fight and a title shot. BTW yes Shogun has looked $hit lately but he fought through injury /ring rust{from time off} /and a new ring{cage} with new rules. Its going to take a few fights to adjust
PULL NOG AND HAVE MACHIDA VS RANDY
The only reason to forgive the UFC for letting this happen is if Machida didn’t want to coach the show. It’s possible that rampage was already in place for that and Machida didn’t want to give out any training secrets or let any body in on ways in which he can be beaten, which isn’t gonna happen anyway, definately not by rampage who couldn’t even beat Forrest,Rashad will destroy Rampage, Rua has no f’ing chance against Machida. I’d love to see Forrest, and Rashad and Rampage all line up on the same night to have their pants kicked in by Machida one after the other. No one will beat him, he’s the best eva…..eva!
Smartest thing Quinton “Rampage” Jackson has done in a while, pass on getting the lash from Lyoto “can’t be beat” Machida. I agree with Johnboy…can’t we find anyone better to fight him? I swear, UFC should keep testing Lyoto so he can continue to show he’s the best!!!
Awesome.. Shogun knocks the pi$$ out of Machida,Rampage knocks the sugar out of Evans and we have a rematch of Shogun-Rampage next year, i’m loving it.
Lets be serious for a moment. Mauricio Rua is an awesome fighter witha complete game. When he came into the UFC against Griffin, of course like everyone else, i noticed that he lacked cardio and good conditioning. I think people have been quick to count him out due to that, but think about the fact that he was injured going into the Griffin fight, AND against Coleman, he had just came off a serious injury AND has a 16 month layoff, plus include the ring rust and you can see why he didn’t perform to the best of his abilities. Now, against Liddell he looked in great shape and he looked like he was finally “back” to proper Shogun form. His footwork looked sharp, his punches and kicks that he threw looked crisp. We shouldn’t forget that Shogun is still very young, strong and at 27 has already fought some tough guys and beat them. He’s great on the standup, clinch, and on the ground. He has the makings of a great champ, and he will beat Machida….How? Lyoto Machida withought a doubt will be Shogun’s tioughest test yet. If you look at Shogun’s fights you will notice that he does have some weaknesse, but his strengths override all that, the guy can move almost as fast as Machida, he has equal or more power behind his punches and has stronger leg kicks which like Machida’s kicks are also hard to see coming. Everyone talks about Machida being unpredictable, i don’t think that;s the case anymore. After the Evans fight it’s very clear that when he attacks he likes to throw that left kick and immediately follow up with a few straight punches especially his left punch. When he’s in “counter” mode, he waits for his opponents to come in and swing, he waits for the right moment to use his speed and explodes, but backs up when his opponent begins to exchage with him, that is what he has done in his last 3 fights, so he’s not looking too unpredictable at the moment IMO. Mauricio Rua likes to stand and trade, his punches are not all that technical, but he throws them with speed and power and from odd angles which i don’t think Machida has seen yet. We’ve seen Shogun take guys down and deliver brutal gNp and sub guys. I honestly feel this is an even macth because both guys are very good overall, the thing is how is Shogun going to appoach Machida. He has a better chance at waiting for Machida to come in rather than press the fight against Machida because if he’s agressive, i don’t think he can take Machida’s flurry of punches and kicks, but if he stays in the center of the octagon i feel he has an advantage because i think Machida will look to counter in this fight. Either way this is an interesting fight and challenge for both guys.
Shogun knocks the pi$$ out of Machida in the 3rd
haha man you obviously dont know much about ufc if you think shogun will beat machida and evans will lose to rampage…. get real machida is gonna hold the belt for a long time.. probably longer than anderson silva.
wow it realy seems like weremissing something cause ever since the title fight between rashad and rampage got changed around a couple times everthing a has seemed a little srewy
I just scanned the UFC’s Light-Heavyweight roster and there really is no big name out there that is not coming off of a recent loss. Except for Shogun. I’m not too thrilled about him being the “interim” #1 contender right now (with Forrest and Rampage already booked). But lets be honest, he sent Chuck Liddell packing in impressive style. If not Shogun than who?! At least we get to see Machida fight between now and Christmas which I think is the most important thing.
I’m glad we get to see Machida defend the belt this year. I don’t really think Shogun has earned his shot by beating the aging Coleman and Liddell. I also think that Marvel is off track and Shogun will be knocking the pis$ out of anything but the air come September. He throws looping punches and only moves forward. If he fights Machida that way he will just get picked apart.
I totally understand your point, but i don’t think Machida will be able to pick Rua apart so easy. I know Machida is very fast and can dodge punches a mile away, but I feel that Shogun also can move away pretty well and counter at the same time. He does throw those looping punches like you said, but he can also throw kicks and straight punches from odd angles that i don’t think Machida has seen before.
Unlike previous opponents, i think tha Rua has a great chance at taking the fight to the ground should he chose to do so, he’s faster than most guys Machida has faced and his takedown technique is different than other guys, he doesn’t shoot in like Ortiz and Evans would, he kind of sets up a guy by either clinching or throwing big shots to distract and then clinches and trips or muscles a guy down.
This fight more evenly matched than people think.
Evans didn’t shoot in against Machida until he was hurt and trying to survive. Also, Evans is one of the fastest guys in the UFC, and I really don’t think that Rua is faster than Evans… and we saw how all that speed worked out for him against Machida…
dude i said Rua is faster than most guys, not all, i know Evans is faster than him
i say give the spider a shot at lyoto and have a rematch with shogun and griffin
eddieko25
I’m not sure if you’re aware of the fact that anderson and machida are bff’s so that fight will likely never happen. In fact, if i’m not mistakend, anderson said that he wouldn’t make a run @ the 205 belt because “that’s lyoto’s belt”. I would be a great fight though.
Dude i don’t like any of these matchups.
Rashad doesn’t deserve to fight the #1 contender rampage
Shogun hella doesn’t deserve to fight the champion lyoto,
It should have been
Lyoto vs Rampage
Shogun vs Rashad
What’s the deal with all this dude? As a fan, i say they need to establish some sort of rankings system because a whole lot of these fights make no sense and that honestly bothers me. I bet the way things are that matt hughes will get the winner of gsp vs thiago…
man jazzok
seems ufc got yo panties in a bunch!!
Seriously I feel you though, but that just shows you that the UFC put Whomever they want in there and that’s just the way it goes….
Whom of us can say deserve a title shot some say which blew my mind that rampage didn’t deserve a shot, some say rashad didn’t deserve a shot or brock lesnar so hey man all we can do is sit back and watch the fire works playboy!!
For what its worth I feel ya!!
Your anger imo is justifiable!!!
Maybe Machida hasn’t proved enough yet and should fight Jardin.
lol
awesome comment dude
It took me a second, but I actually laughed out loud at that comment.
I think that was in a monty python sketch… two guys kick each other in the shins til the other falls over…
I know Shogun doesn’t deserve a title shot at the moment but you have to admit this is a interesting match up tho because Shogun I would say is One of the most well rounded fighter’s in that division, and has the potenial to beat Machida.. even tho I think Machida is just going to put on another great preformance I think Shogun has the Skills to steal rounds off Machida… like I’ve said before the Liddell Fight which Shogun are we going to see in this fight… If anyone hasn’t seen the Junior Dos Santos Vs. Shogun training {sparing} go check it out. Even tho I {plus everyone else} know that Rampage deserves a shot more then Shogun I still think Shogun has alot more to show the UFC fans
When are we gonna see luiz cane get a shot at a legitimate contender (like shogun) and see how things pan out. In my opinion Rampage should try to win the belt back and THEN fight Rashad. I’m sure the hatred will still be there next year.
when dana white said for the next two year we are gonna see mega fights he was right, but two years is coming up and i think we are gonna see the ufcs growth slow a little bit, no real stars anymore and not to many that can carry a ppv
I say we introduce tag team matches….
Machida/Evans vs A. Silva/Rampage
or if we could do handicap matches how about…
Machida/A. Silva vs Rampage/Griffin/Evans…. Do spiders and dragons like Oreo cookies? =
***This was an attempt at being funny for the record. I am not impressed with these decisions for contenders for the light-heavy belt. UFC blew it big time and yes this sport does need some sort of outside and sanctioned ranking system in order to pick the deserving contenders. If Rua lost Coleman, does Coleman get a shot at Machida? lol. Awful.
yeah dude your right, the UFC fu*ked up, Rampage is the obvious #1 Contender and they’re giving him “sugar”, dude???
great point markus j! what if coleman won? does his old ass get a shot? and seriously dude, rashad doesn’t deserve to fight rampage. Even though i like brock lesnar, this is kind of the same thing when he was chosen as the top contender after going 1-1 in his mma career. It’s all about hype, marketing and money. What about actual deserving fighters? Kenny florian pretty much cleaned out the lw div and waited hellla long to get his shot, and shogun ko’s granpa lidell and gets a shot? Rashad get’s ktfo and gets to fight rampage? not kool dude
For the record, Lesnar was chosen as top contender after going 2-1 in his MMA career and 1-1 in the UFC.
HAHAHAHA! Brilliant!
I honestly don’t see why everyone is overrating the hell out of Lyoto Machida.
I’m not saying he isn’t as good as people think, it’s just the fact that all of a sudden no 205 pounder has even the slightest chance at beating him in everyone’s eyes. Come on, Ortiz was able to get a triangle on him OFF HIS BACK, TITO!!! whos not even a good JJ fighter.
The reason why he hasn’t got taken down is because nobody has realyy tried, yeah Tito tried, but he’s slow as hell and was fighting through an injury. One thing I know about Mauricio Rua, is that he’s not going to exaggerate on the respect he gives Machida. Machida only throuws straight punches, if Shogun blocks them then he;s ok, and he now knows to expect a straight left punch when Machida throws that left kick.
I don’t want to look like i’m “hating” on Machida because truth be told, he’s a sick Karate guy and i greatly APPRECIATE his breath of fresh air style besides the obvious Muay Thai or Kickboxing that most MMA fighters use, but the guy is not YODA!!!!!
OH YEAH and Yoda doesn’t drink pis$
IIIIIIII dont know MK4
Yoda was in that swamp hidding for a long time when luke found him sooooo aint no telling what he was drinking or eating or doing!! He was in a swamp so he was drinking somethings piss infested water!!!LOL
Go I Must.
Tito got a triangle on him. cool.
Hey, how’d that turn out?
Arona got Rampage in a triangle too… his lights were still shut off…
Also just because Tito doesn’t use submissions often in his fights doesn’t mean he doesn’t have the skills. He did take 3rd at Abu Dahbi submission wrestling tournemant in 2000 losing only to Arona by decision.
Also Machida is still a black belt in BJJ so even if you take him down you still have to be able to do something there.
ok first off I want to know where some of you get your weed from, even though I don’t smoke just using the phrase.
Read the previous post about TUF Rampage turned it down to fight Evans first. It was HIS choice.
Also Shogun is sick and nasty in all phases of the game and was arguably the top Light Heavy when he was in Pride but that’s not the reason he’d be fighting for the belt. He’s the best option that is available considering there’s Evans-Jackson, Griffin-Silva, Franklin-Wandi coming up.
People are always complaining that champs do not defend there belts enough and Machida has already decided to defend his just a few months after winning it. So if he waited for the Evans-Jackson bout first it’d be next year before Machida defends again. Which I guarantee a lot of the same people would complain that Machida doesn’t fight enough, so which is it would you like to see him defend his belt and fight again orrrr wait for several months before fighting again. He could sit out if he wanted to(as champ he’s earned the right) but he’s decided to fight so just be happy he’s fighting.
As for the fight it’s self I don’t see it being a KO for either guy. I really think shogun would try to work the cage to attempt a take down to try and ground the elusive Machida. Would he pull it off, unlikely but if anyone could when they are on it’s Shogun. Plus Shogun’s got a great chin, great strikes, and a great clinch game so if he caught Machida he could drop him once again it’s unlikely. I’d take Machida by decision.
itself* sorry using the ipod touch to post…
Chris L you’re absolutely right. Rampage chose to fight rashad instead of lyoto. Most of the top lhw’s are currently booked to fight and so you say shogun is available so it’s not that crazy that he fights machida…i have to disagree dude. Just because shogun is available doesn’t mean he should automatically get a shot by default. I previously stated that shogun imo is the only 205er at the moment that could give machida trouble besides rampage, but as far as “rankings” go and who’s deserving of a title shot…i don’t think shogun deserves a shot. BUt hey, brock got a shot too and bj got a shot @ gsp right away. So i understand your point.
Oh I’m not arguing that Shogun deserves the first shot by any stretch of the imagination. I’m just saying that if Machida wants to defend his belt sooner than later then hats off to him. It’s Joe Silva and the UFC’s job to set up the match-ups and if no one above Shogun on the totem poll is available then so be it. There is no set rankings system in the UFC, it’s all pretty arbitrary and based on the business side as well and if this puts asses in seats they’ll do it.
If this comes off then I will go with Shogun . Just for the f@ck of it . His style is exciting and well rounded and he sure did put a hurting on chuck .
Everyone puts a hurting on chuck now. That was no feat.
Would everyone still be upset if they fought a non-title match?!
I don’t know why it’s even an issue who wil be lined up for the next title fight at 205. If Stephan Bonnar beats Coleman, he should definitely be next in line. He has only lost to Jon Jones, Griffin twice, Evans, and Machida. Yeah, he got busted for roids back after the second Griffin loss, but if he beats Coleman, he deserves a title fight. For God’s sake, he beat Mike Nickels and Sam Hoger. He will destroy Machida in their rematch.
War Bonnar.
please tell me there was supposed to be a
at the end of that haha
hahaha wow dude thanks for the laugh
There was a touch of sarcasm in my tone, but it was lost when it went to paper.
I think Bonnar would be a good match up again, but im not sure if he has enough to take it.
No disrespect to Rampage but no one said Sh!t when he got a shot after having 1 fight in the UFC. You guys should just be happy if this fight takes place because it would be a great fight.
True, but (correct me if im wrong, and im sure someone will) he was brought in to “lose” against Chuck, so Chuck could avenge his last loss. Good thing Chuck was full of himself, cause after he got ko’d, he hasn’t been the same since.
You’re right on track there, Chuck wanted that fight, to try to avenge that loss. Rampage (at that time) was the only loss he hadn’t avenged.
shogun shouldnt have a title shot for at least 2 more fights! where does this come from? he wins his last fight and gets a title shot? what does this say for rampage????
This decision by the UFC is because they want Lyoto to be back in the octagon again instead of having Lyoto wait for the winner of the Rampage and Evans fight. Lets face it, if Quinton fought Lyoto he would get killed, I don’t think Quinton has any chance at all at beating Machida. But the Rampage v Evans fight is a dream match in my opinion that stylistically matches up very well and a fight that everyone wants to see. So then who is another top 205 contender that will give Lyoto some sort of trouble. Evans and Rampage are out, Forrest is out because he’s fighting Silva, so then who is there?? Henderson, Thiago Silva, Wanderlei, Franklin… I can’t think of any other fighter that is somewhat of a contender that isnt fighting close to that date other than Shogun.
I dont think Shogun deserves this fight (I think he needs one moregood fight) but I think the UFC doesn’t have any other contenders. I don’t think this is such a bad match up either, Shogun has been plagued by injuries and is almost getting back to how he used to be in Pride. He’s a well rounded decorated fighter that will not be afraid of Machida.
Do i think that Shogun deserves this fight, No. But I think that the UFC has made a great decision in getting Evans v Rampage instead of Rampage v Machida
There is not a chance in hell this fight will happen but when Anderson Silva destroy’s Forrest then Anderson Vs Machida}—>=’s sick ppv this is the dream fight for New years UFC, or bring in Vitor Belfort or Lung Lee for Anderson at 185 and bring in Gegard Mousasi for Lyoto Machida …… A very long ways off a title shot but try to build up Luiz Cane{fight Matt Hamill} and Jon Jones{fight T. Silva}…. as well the UFC needs to make that A Silva Vs Maia fight soon
Mousasi still has a contract with DREAM and T~shirt guy is trying to get he and Belfort to fight each other. If Mousasi loses to Belfort, there’s no reason to bring him to the UFC, even if they could, which they can’t because of the DREAM contract. Belfort would be interesting, but he hasn’t fully proved his “back” and with this whole, KO Lindland, call out Fedor, then say you will only fight at MW thing is a bit… odd.
I wonder who is more to blame here for this fiasco: Terrell Owens or Alex Rodriquez. Surely one of them is to blame.
If I’m not mistaken almost everyone was just saying not that long ago that Rampage wasn’t deserving either? People, get it right. I don’t really care who Machida fights as long as it’s soon. Shogun is not really worthy but, no one else is either Except Page. This is all about the BENJIMEN$. Let’s just get the fights rollin and we will eventually weed out the weak and see who really is the best at LHW in the world Hopefully.
If Shogun takes this fight, I think his Brazilian citizenship is going to be revoked.
i think they should wait till after 101, if Forrest can somehow beat Anderson give him the shot. That would create alot more buzz and create a rivalry since Anderson and Lyoto are such close friends.
I’d like to see the Silva-Griffin winner fight the Machida-Rua winner on the year-end card with Evans-Rampage, then the winners could hype a matchup for early-2010.
Its funny how 205 seemed sooo stack and filled with beast but That Machida ko my boy Evans and Rampage will now fight Evans the division isn’t so stacked we no longer have a Legit # 1 contender if you take Rampage out of the equation…
Rashad?? How he just lost the belt by KO
Forrest?? How when he just go TKO by Rashad
Shogun?? How but he is i guess????
Franklin?? How indeed…..?
Well here’s to see’ing what happens beers for all ya’ll
I was a Pride fan before it was cool, and I saw some of Shogun’s work in 2005 / 2006… he looked great. I also had him in the top 5 205ers in the world coming into the UFC.
All that said, sorry, he just hasn’t been good in the UFC. No good. We can make all kinds of excuses, but bottom line, Hua has really not had an impressive fight in the UFC, and does not deserve a title shot. His win against Coleman was a horrible, horrible fight against someone who should have retired a few fights ago. His win against Liddell was also against a fighter clearly past his ability to performa t a high level.
No question Rampage shoud be fighting Lyoto (probably why they offered him the fight).
MARK MY WORDS: Shogun is getting KTFO by the Dragon.
Rua’s being fed to the Sharks!!! onlytrue1 makes too much sense. There really is only 1 dude who has a punchers chance at Lyoto, and its Jackson. Plus I personally dont think that he will beat Rashad, so if that happens then who is it next?…
The return of Chuck anyone? wooohooo!
Thx Curt finally someone see’s the light!!
Welcome to the darkside my young apprentice!!
All I know is if the Shogun from Pride shows up, he beats anyone at 205, and that includes Machida…and I am a huge Machida fan. The UFC would be very smart to make the fight happen. They can’t lose here. If Shogun loses and Rampage wins, then the fight we all thought would happen will. If Shogun beats Machida and Rampage wins, then the long awaited Jackson-Rua rematch happens. If Machida and Evans win, or if Shigun and Evans win then it is another win for the Ultimate Fighter as legit (as if it weren’t already). UFC has nothing to lose here. It would be a brilliant move for the UFC to make this happen.
Win one fight in the UFC versus somebody that can barely qualify and pass the medical exam to fight and you get a title shot…..COME ON!
Give Couture a shot before him, give Forrest a shot if he does well against Anderson, hell, I would give Evans another shot before Rua.
Maybe Dana is tossing Machida a bone so the winner of the Evans/Rampage fight gets a shot at Machida…..but I would cry if Rua became the LW Champ!
Rua’s won two fights in the UFC…Couture is staying at Hwt. and if Rua wins it is pointless to complain about him getting the shot because that would mean well he was the best then…
I agree about if Rua wins… but people are still pitching a fit of Lesnar getting a shot at Randy, even though he won.
Shogun getting a shot has nothing to do with whether he is deserving or not. This decision is not about that or the fans, but completely from a marketing stand point. The UFC makes this fight and it sets up the potential rematch between Rampage and Shogun down the road. Does Shogun beat Machida and does Rampage beat Evans to make this happen…who knows, but It’s a chance they are willing to try and create to make a huge profit in the long run, which ultimately makes the wheels go round for a business.
Prediction, Machida outscores Shogun to a decision, and Rampage catches Evans in the second after losing the first, and all that UFC long term thinking ends up spoiled.
I doubt Rampage will drop the first to Evans, Evans has a long history of dropping the first and even sometimes second rounds in his fights.
Neither Rashad or Rampage stay all that busy, and both lose rounds all the time because of it, i think it comes down to who catches who first.
Rua is NOT Lesnar. Hindsight is 20/20 on that.
Rua has had terrible performances. He BARELY beat a guy who is unranked and has Jesus’ signature in his yearbook and another guy who has been exposed and is on his way out of the UFC. How does that make him credible? He also has a recent LOSS to Coleman.
I think Luis Cain would be a better choice for this fight than Rua and I think Rua is overranked as it is.
Machida is going to anhialate Rua unless Tyche (the Greek God of Luck) jumps down from Mount Olympus and peronally attached Rua’s cup before this fight.
Absolute ludicracy.
And what is up with Jackson turning down a fight? Booooooo! BOOOOOOOOO! Why are you fighting if you dont want the title? You can play with Rashad some other day but the title shot it TODAY.
Luis Cane has beat who again? He’s faced few contenders in his career than Shogun has in a year. Did you even see the loss to coleman or did you just read the stat on Wikipedia or sherdog? It was a TKO due to a dislocated elbow from bracing the wrong way while being taken down and it wasn’t recent it was 3 years ago.

To me, this fight is why the UFC is so great. When there is one central governing body (unlike boxing) you can be more creative with your cards. I’m SURE Rampage wanted to fight Rashaad, and they’ll be coaches, it’ll be super-hyped, and it’ll be an awesome fight.
To me, Shogun makes so much sense. If this truly is the “Machida Era” let’s pad up his record with a few big names.
And for the record, who’s to say that Dana won’t throw together a Rampage / Machida fight even if Jackson LOSES to Evans?
Some of you people aint got a clue and probaly started watching UFC the last year or so and dont even know what PRIDE is. Shogun is a awesome fighter if he was 100% fit and on top form probaly the best 205 in the world. He lost to Forest because he was coming off a injury he was winning the fight and gassed, He looked crap vs Coleman because once again he was coming off a huge injury layoff and gassed, VS Liddell he looked back to himself and destoyed chuck
Oh and if you didnt know Shogun destroyed Rampage in PRIDE
Shogun will beat Machida mark my words
Just out of curiosity, who’s the big Pride “name” that came to the UFC and dominated like they were supposed to??
Rampage was champ for a minute…
Wanderlei get concused…
Mirko took a kick to the career…
Big Nog was dominated by Mir, who was supposed to be passed HIS prime…
Shogun has been unimpressive…(Although I agree, he might be back!)
I’m sure I’m missing somebody.
But, you know what?!?! I just thought of this, too. Who from that era from the UFC roster has been dominating??
Randy? Chuck? Franklin? Silvia? Highes?
I think we have to face it…the old days are over, kids!!
BOO!
Shamrock vs. Abbott in 2010!
Well, Rampage ko’d UFC’s poster boy and united the Pride belt! Shogun ko’d him too! Nog became interim champ! Oh yeah, Anderson Silva has dominated the middle weight class for a few years, he came from Pride.
Hey Randy is still doing great i dont care if he got kocked by a 265 pound gorilla he was doing fine in that fight and looked to be in better shape going into that second round. And i think he will have his way with noguera.
Rampage v Rashad is a real money fight. I also like to see that fight, when they squared up to each other after UFC96 it was pretty cool. I also think Rampage is a little afraid to fight Machida right now, cause he look very difficult to beat.
As for Shogun, well he may cause an upset, but I really don’t think so, Shogun has looked weak in his last few fights, he’ll proberly be just a notch on Machida’s belt.
At least this means that Manchida will be the first LHW chap to hold on to his belt for at least one defence in a while. e.g. Griffen/Rashad..
People whoa arn’t excited for this fight are UFC fans who don’t know of Shogun outside the UFC. The UFC only retardo hardcore will think this fight is a bust. but honestly Rua has as good a chance if not a better chance then rampage because his strikes come quickly an from unexpected places.
When thinking of who could take Machida down I had forgotten all about Shogun.. and you know what? His strange striking could actually catch machida off guard – but probably not
Should be a good fight tho!!
How can they risk setting up Machida-Evans 2 with only one fight in between, when it wasn’t even close!? Ridiculous. Griffin or anyone deserves the shot more than Rua too. Just shows how the Fertittas and White run this thing. Imagine the NHL saying, oh we like this team and that, so we’ll just put them in the final regardless of record.
If Evans and Machida win (which I kind of doubt but still) the UFC will have HUGE egg on its face.
Hi guys, Iam from South America but i don’t practice any MMA stuff.
However regarding all Shogun vs Machida issues, i gotta say just same as MarvelKnight guy which commented around there, that : Shogun just comes just a couple of years ago(which in this kind of things isn’t a long time, specially being just 27 years old)from being World Champion of brutal Pride, where the restriction of ,let’s say, Soccer Kicks wasn’t present yet and he just f..d the **** out of everybody there. Conclusion, just two or three years passed by, and on the mean time, on his first round he gets rid of Chuck Liddell, who’s still a big name, at the same time, f..d the s out of guys like Rampage that sent Liddell down. So, it’s just one of the first times, where you can see that one guy screwed with lots of justice all the chain of predators in here, i mean, Rampage and Liddell, and this is just an example.
I think that if Rua gets somehow better conditioning for Machida’s encounter, i mean even better than these last fight(although was so short the time he ended , that is hard to tell), well then, Machida’s gotta controll now, somebody who can really push the fight’s pace, and see how long he handles that.
However As Shogun’s not stupid, he’ll take probably the same Defense position, but with way more balls, eager to attack much more than Lyoto M.,(iam based on all that we could watch from both of them, is not strictly my opinion ) so he may have even a better chance, than this other guy Machida, which likes to wait for his opponent and to win round by round, just in the case that he suffers on the last one , just in case.
So the difference: Machida read too much the art of war, which gives him results, but he has hardly sen by the moment somebody like shogun which goes to End the fights, if not take a look on any website.
Shogun Wins by TKO on 3rd.
Salud!
I think Shogun’s style is actually going to match up fairly will with Machida’s. But in the end, he’s just going to be another body fed to the dragon.
