Frank Trigg

Today veteran fighter, and former two time UFC welterweight Title Challenger, Frank Trigg was signed to rejoin the organization. Trigg has not fought for the UFC in nearly four years, after amassing a 2-3 record in his first stint with the organization, which ended on a two fight losing streak. According to reports from MMAJunkie Trigg has signed a four fight deal with the promotion, and will look to make his return in the late fall or early winter.

Since leaving the UFC in 2005 Trigg has put together a 7-2 record, including a most recent four fight win streak. In late 2006 Trigg topped notable Jason “Mayhem” Miller for the Icon Sport Middleweight belt, which he later lost to Robbie Lawler.

Trigg has mostly been competing at middleweight for the last few years, but according to comments on his Twitter account he is working diligently to return to the welterweight division, presumably in time for his UFC return.

Please let someone Ko this guy cause he is just as annoying as matt hughes and matt serra. He swears he knows soooo much and is such an expert but why cant he win a title!!!

  • RJA says:

I hate to say it because i like frank trigg, but regardless of what division he returns to middle or welter i don’t think he will go to far in either. Both classes are way deeper than they were when he was in the ufc.But i am glad to see him join. He’s got a great personality, and i’ll root for him most of the time.

  • chrisl says:

Hate on Frank Trigg all you want but I’ve met the guy, he’s brilliant about MMA. He really loves everything about the sport and would do anything for it. Like Tito he talks a lot of crap before fights but he’s a showman and does more for fans than anyone. I’m actually interested to see who he fights and glad he’s back in the UFC.

  • RJA says:

I agree chisl, and thought he did a good job as co host on that show for pride. That’s actually when i started to like him.

  • Dudes, i like Frank Trigg, i’ve seen him on lots of interviews and the dude really knows his $hit. He breaks down fights awesomely and whether he wins or loses he still has great knowledge of MMA, more than most guys. Just because he loses doesn’t mean anything…you got basketball, baseball and football coaches who don’t physicaly play the game, but they know their $hit better than anyone. I’m glad to see him back in the UFC.

With that said, he;s a bit older now so it’s unlikely that he’ll do anything special, but he can redeem himself from his chokeout loses to Hughes and GSP, so there is still something worth fighting for.

Welcome back Trigg, it is interesting to me on so many “little levels” like.. He is 19~6~0, his notable wins include:: Mayhem Miller, Dennis Hallman (2x), Fabiano Iha, Jean Jacques Machado
Notable losses include:: Hayoto Sakurai, Matt Hughes (2x), GSP, Carlos Condit, Robbie Lawler

    his two wins in the UFC came against Renato Verissimo and Dennis Hallman {the guy who has beaten Matt Hughes twice}
His three losses come against Matt Hughes twice and GSP

Soo essentially even at WW he isn’t the barn burner especially in the UFC and he is (admitantly) too small for MW, perhaps a fight between Kos and Trigg would be good we shall see, interesting signing to say the least… can’t wait to see how this all works out…

    • tjack says:

Haha here we go with ur awesome stats :) it always brightens my day to read some of fr702’s knowlege

      • Tw@ says:

Cut out the middleman and go read wikipedia yourself, Trigg is a pointless signing, all talk and no trousers and neither a gatekeeper or a contender. He will probably redebut against Kampmann and lose! Go back to reality dating shows please Frank

    • chrisl says:

he did almost pull off what would’ve been hughes second most controversial fight…;)

    • DigYourOwnHole says:

I’ll add a December 2007 win over Edwin Dewees to the notable wins catagory.

      • fr702 says:

Thx TW@ or was it sarcasm? Either way thc….

I guess you could add Edwin to that list…who’s only notable win is over Drew Fickett.. Yet has many notable losses himself but if you would like to add him by all means, he did lose to Antonio McKee soo ya know ;-)

      • DigYourOwnHole says:

Your right, now that I look at Dewees’ record, Im not impressed. I have liked to watch him though. Maybe I gave him credit for name recognition.

As a side note, if memory serves me right, Dewees was in the bloodiest fight in UFC histroy…I dont remember against who though. Scalp cut for like 3 rounds for gore.

  • White_Boy says:

Haters. I like Trigg as an announcer and a fighter. He may or may not have a good run in the UFC. He could end up being a gatekeeper at WW or MW. But, I am excited to see him back in the UFC.

  • Chairman395 says:

The UFC will be a great venue for Trigg to increase his popularity even more to casual MMA fans for extra sponsorships, TV announcing or whatever other business venture he wants to enter. At this stage in his career, fighting is almost secondary.

    Isn’t his website Triggonomics?…

  • carls says:

I think this could be a good fight for kampman or matt brown. Its funny cause he would probably beat hughes now if they fought.

  • ryanmoney says:

Perhaps Trigg is being brought back to the UFC to battle Hughes one last time in Hughes’ back yard.

  • DigYourOwnHole says:

Im happy to see Trigg back in the UFC.

I ran into him in Vegas when he was with his family and was going to just keep walking but my wife urged me to at least say hi and ask for a picture. I did and he not only took time to take a pic but he talked to me for about 5 minutes (he started the conversation). He is a cool dude.

I wish him well in his return.

  • timcat says:

When he fought Hughes both times, matt Hughes was the best fighter on the planet, no shame in losing there. Trigg is a good signing.

  • GarRule says:

How could you not love a guy named “Twinkle Toes”?

    • Jazzkok says:

      seriously dudes? “twinkle toes”?!?!

I think it’s a joke that trigg is back! and @ ww?!? does this dude WANT to get knfo his first fight back? So the ufc let’s go of clementi, and mcdonald, but…they re-sign washed up 39 year old, mediocre, frank trigg? wow,

look forward to seeing him cry when he loses like he cried after gsp choked him out!

      • Justin says:

Do you mean ktfo instead of knfo?

I’m not sure what impact Trigg will have in the UFC, if any, but I think it’s good for him that he got signed. He’s been looking for a gig for a while now, and he should be able to make some decent cash from the UFC, even if he loses.

I like Trigg, and hope he does well.

  • GarRule says:

Maybe the long-term plan is to use him as an on-air personality. Re-expose him to the UFC fan and then put him in the booth for a UFC or WEC event.

  • KenpoMark says:

I think Trigg is a great announcer, good personality, and a world-class fighter. I wish him luck.

  • eddieko25 says:

Why trigg man? they should of signed nick diaz and robie lawler again

  • timcat says:

Contracts mean nothing for college football and basketball coaches. In the real world they do.

  • j.cohl says:

As an MMA commentator Trigg is good stuff, but as a UFC WW or MW he’ll in all likelihood be average at best. I do wish hom luck though, he’s going to need it.

  • frantzfanon says:

Funny, he was a also on TNA IMPACT! a few months ago, some aborted storyline about being a Kurt Angle acolyte/doppelganger….

  • bfree says:

Twinkle Toes is the man! He was awesome on TNA. I dont care if he gets his arse kicked four times in a row, maybe the UFC could have him replace mike goldberg as an announcer and give the UFC commentary a little more creditability other than joe rogan. I would love to hear Frank talk crap about everybody in the ufc
