Mousasi Challenges Belfort to Catchweight Matchup
On the heels of Vitor Belfort’s refusal to fight former DREAM middleweight champion Gegard Mousasi at any weight higher than 185-pounds, Mousasi has challenged Belfort to a catchweight bout.
“I cannot make the weight, otherwise I would have continued to fight at 185 and not given up my DREAM middleweight title,” Mousasi told M-1 Global. “I cannot make 185 anymore and that is final. I am very surprised that Belfort was willing to challenge Fedor at heavyweight yet is unwilling to fight me at a catchweight. If (Belfort) does not want to fight at middleweight, why not fight me at a catchweight?”
Mousasi and Belfort are tentatively scheduled to meet at Affliction 3 on August 1st in Anaheim, California, but the weight for the bout has yet to be determined.

How about a catchweight of, umm, let’s see, 204?That’s fair enough.
Meet in the middle at 195 … kinda lame though . If it cant happen then just make another matchup . Mousasi vs Prangley and Belfort vs ? .
Mousasi says that he can’t drop down to 185 anymore, hence the fact that Jacare and Mayhem fought to a NC for the vancant DREAM MW title, cuz Mousasi has vacated his title without defending it, cuz he can’t cut weight…. So he would look like a total asss if he cut just to fight Belfort…
Belfort has found his “home” in MW division, he is no longer a top LHW he is a better MW imo, finding a catch weight of 195 is a soulution but both of these gents well like things their way, this is will be interesting to see how it works out…
Yeah, it will make Mousasi look rather silly if he does decide to cut down to 185 for Belfort. And this will be interesting to see how it plays out.
If this does go down and say Mousasi gets a decisive win , where does it put him in the scheme of things ? Still has to finish the SuperHulk tournament to boot.Kinda funny though that the lighter dudes ,with the exception of Choi , have advanced . If he’s really making his way up to heavyweight then he should stay in DREAM so he can face more “starter class” competition then head over to the US for the big dudes .Maybe throw him in against rizzo or yvel .
