WEC 42: Torres vs. Bowles Set For August 9 in Las Vegas
WEC 42, which is headlined by WEC bantamweight champion Miguel Torres taking on challenger Brian Bowles, will take place on August 9 at The Joint in Las Vegas, according to NWI.com.
The event, which will air live on Versus, takes place just one day after UFC 101 on August 8th in Philadephia, which features UFC lightweight champion BJ Penn vs. Kenny Florian and Anderson Silva vs. Forrest Griffin.
The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino was recently revamped and can now hold over 4,000 spectators.
In addition to the Torres-Bowles headliner, bantamweight contenders Takeya Mizugaki vs. Jeff Curran are also scheduled to fight on the card.

Miguel’s mullet is pretty gay I would have to say but, I’d sport one If it made me fight like he does. He should have no trouble with Bowles if I’m being honest that’s My opinion though. He to me at least is on the ballot for P4P best in the world he record speaks for it’s self and he has faced some really tough dudes.

Bowles is a hell of a fighter and should be a violent fight…
Torres is the **** and i love watching this guy fight. He’s still the only dude i’ve ever seen (in an mma fight) do the “front axe” kick? is that what it’s called when he does like a front flip kick? either way he’s my boy and i look forward to this match.
an axe kick is usually when you miss high front kick (or just glances or you’re a god and you’re that strong…) and then whip the heel to try and land a blow. It’s hard as hell to hit standing in MMA because if a guy takes a shot w/ good timing you’re in a bad position. Also if you land it wrong you can break your heal and that blows.
I remember Wandi used them a lot when he was standing and his opponent was grounded in Pride. That said I’ve only seen maybe two intentional ones where both were standing and one was Torres and then there was one in TUF I remember when it was the Hughes-Serra year. I cannot remember the fighter though, probably due to all the years of Muay Thai haha.
I maintain Torres may have some of the most genuine Muay Thai in MMA, it really is wicked. I believe he’s P4P top 5 if only for the hair.
Miguel Torres is sick as hell, it’s going to be hard for any guy to beat him. Bowles is undefeated, but I still don’t see him winning, Torre’s is locked in and the guys always comes in ready and in crazy shape, he has an all around game and is too much for any guy at this moment.
