It was revealed on UFC Tonight that featherweight champion Jose Aldo pulled out of his scheduled fight with Chad Mendes at UFC 176.

Aldo (24-1) is the UFC’s second-ranked pound-for-pound fighter. He has won his last 16 fights.

There is no word on a replacement main event, nor if Mendes will remain on the card.

UFC 176 takes place on August 2 in Los Angeles, California, at the Staples Center and will air live on pay-per-view.

No replacement has been named for Aldo, but the UFC is in a mad scramble for that event because the co-main event is not worthy of a main event fight on a PPV which is Gegard Mousasi and Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza.

Stay Tuned.
