UFC President Dana White today announced that Tyron Woodley (13-3 MMA, 3-2 UFC) has signed on to replace Hector Lombard (34-4-1 MMA, 3-2 UFC) and will fight Dong Hyun Kim (19-2-1 MMA, 10-2 UFC) at UFC Fight Night 48. This fight will serve as the co-main event.
Lombard had to pull out of the fight due to an injury.
Tyron Woodley (13-3) the longtime Strikeforce champion joined the UFC on a ten wins and one loss in his first eleven fights. He beat Jay Hieron via 1st RD TKO at UFC 156 – Aldo vs. Edgar on Feb / 02 / 2013. He would lose to Jake Shields via submission at UFC 161 – Evans vs. Henderson on Jun / 15 / 2013. In his next two fights he is 2-0 with wins over Josh Koscheck via 1st RD KO at and then Carlos Condit via 2nd TKO at UFC 171 – Hendricks vs. Lawler on Mar / 15 / 2014.
Woodley is coming off a one sided loss to Rory MacDonald at UFC 174.
Dong Hyun Kim has 8 knockouts, 1 submissions and 10 decision victories. He has been knocked out twice. He made his UFC debut against Jason Tan at UFC 84 – Ill Wil on May / 24 / 2008 which he won by TKO. In his last five fights he is 4-1 and in his last four fights he is undefeated. He lost to Demian Maia via knockout at via knockout at UFC 148 – Silva vs. Sonnen 2 on Jul / 07 / 2012, but then began his four fight winning streak with wins over Paulo Thiago via unanimous decision at UFC on Fuel TV 6 – Franklin vs. Le on Nov / 10 / 2012, Siyar Bahadurzada via unanimous decision at UFC on Fuel TV 8 – Silva vs. Stann on Mar / 03 / 2013, Erick Silva via knockout at UFC Fight Night – Maia vs. Shields on Oct / 09 / 2013, and then John Hathaway via knockout at UFC Fight Night – Kim vs. Hathaway on Mar / 01 / 2014 in his last fight.
The headline fight will be Michael Bisping (24-6 MMA, 14-6 UFC) and Cung Le (9-2 MMA, 2-1 UFC).
UFC Fight Night 48 takes place takes place Aug. 23 at The Venetian Macao’s CotaiArena. The card is expected to air on UFC Fight Pass.
