Jon Jones recently spoke about Chael Sonnen’s honesty about his recent failed drug test and then retirement:
“I watched him on UFC Tonight. I thought he handled it very responsibly. I really admired him being vulnerable and telling the world about the situation with his wife and things like that.”
“I’ve been very vocal about not respecting steroid users and guys who cheat. But Chael almost gained an exception with the way he handled it and the way he was so honest and upfront with the fans and all the fighters about the whole situation.”
“It was never good for the sport to see something like this. But in a way, it was a win for Chael because he got some things off his chest and just be real about everybody, said Jones.”
Sonnen has gone out of his way to get inside his opponent’s head, he has been on an up and down roller coaster ride. Since losing to Anderson Silva in their first fight back in 2010, Sonnen has a 3-3 record in his last six fights, two of those have been for gold.
Jon Jones (20-1 MMA, 14-1 UFC) will meet the number one contender Alexander Gustafsson (16-2 MMA, 8-2 UFC) will meet on September 27th on pay-per-view.
