The fans were not the only ones upset about the Andrei Arlovski – Brendan Schaub fight at UFC 174. It was not the homecoming that Andre Arlovski was looking for at UFC 174. Maybe nerves got the better of him or maybe Brendan Schaub was just the better fighter Saturday night.
Andrei Arlovski (22-10) made his return to the UFC in this fight. He has 15 knockouts, 3 submissions and 3 decision victories in his MMA career. He is a former UFC Heavyweight Champion. He has beaten some of the biggest names in the sport with wins over Tim Sylvia, Fabricio Werdum and Roy Nelson. He left the UFC in 2008 with a win over Jake O’Brien via TKO at UFC 82 in 2008. Since leaving the UFC he has a record of 8-5-1. In his last five fights, he is 4-1. In his last three fights he is 2-1. He won his last two fights with wins over Mike Kyle via unanimous decision at WSOF 5 – Arlovski vs. Kyle on Sep / 14 / 2013 and then Andreas Kraniotakes in November of 2013 via TKO.
UFC President Dana White gave his thoughts about the fight:
“That fight sucked,” White simply stated. “The fans lost in that fight. That fight should have been on the prelims.”
Shaub was perfect 2-0 record in his last two fights prior to UFC 174. He beat Lavar Johnson via unanimous decision at UFC 165 – Jones vs. Gustafsson on Sep / 21 / 2013 and then Matt Mitrione via submission at UFC 157 – Rousey vs. Carmouche on Feb / 23 / 2013.
