Tyron Woodley Comments On Fighting Rory MacDonald To Get A Title Shot

Tyron Woodley (13-2) takes on Rory MacDonald (16-2) this Saturday night at UFC 174. He spoke with MMA Junkie about facing Rory MacDonald and possible title shot:

“I think the best performance is going to get a title shot,” Woodley said. “My goal is really to focus on beating Rory MacDonald in a dominant fashion – to go up to Vancouver and do my thing. Everything else, whether they give me a shot or not, I’m eventually going to win the world title. I’m going to be in the title picture. “But I just need to focus on this kid because if I go out there and I don’t win, then I’m not getting a world title anyway.”

He has four knockouts, five submissions and four decision victories. The longtime Strikeforce champion joined the UFC on a ten wins and one loss in his first eleven fights. He beat Jay Hieron via 1st RD TKO at UFC 156 – Aldo vs. Edgar on Feb / 02 / 2013. He would lose to Jake Shields via submission at UFC 161 – Evans vs. Henderson on Jun / 15 / 2013. In his next two fights he is 2-0 with wins over Josh Koscheck via 1st RD KO at and then Carlos Condit via 2nd TKO at UFC 171 – Hendricks vs. Lawler on Mar / 15 / 2014.

“I don’t think anybody is getting awarded anything. This is the UFC. You don’t think they can switch that and change the promos on the spot? I think it’s performance-based.”
