Diego Brandao (18-9 MMA, 4-2 UFC) has agreed to fight Conor McGregor (14-2 MMA, 2-0 UFC) at the July 19 event at Dublin’s O2 Arena and he spoke to MMA Fighting about fighting Mcgregor, he even went on to say that he is not even that good.
“It’s going to be a really interesting fight. He likes to fight standing and so do I, so we’re going at it. It’s going to be a great show for the UFC fans. I’m going to Ireland to beat him. I will do my job in there. If the win comes in the first round or the last round, it’s okay, what really matters is that it comes. I was really happy when my manager Ivan Jatoba called me saying that the UFC wanted me in a main event against Conor McGregor. I’ve been through some hard moments last year, and at the beginning of this year, and I have to thank God, Sean Shelby, Dana White and Joe Silva for believing in me and giving me this main event.”
Diego Brandao has 9 knockouts, 5 submissions and 4 decision victories, while he has been knocked out 5 times, submitted once and lost by decision three times. Prior to joining the UFC he was on a three fight winning streak. He made his UFC debut against Dennis Bermudez which he won via armbar at UFC – The Ultimate Fighter 14 Finale on Dec / 03 / 2011. He lost against Darren Elkins via unanimous decision at UFC 146 – Dos Santos vs. Mir on May / 26 / 2012.
