Dana White, Kenny Florian, and Forrest Griffin on Dr. Phil (updated w/ video)
If you just can’t get enough of Dana White and some of the UFC stars, you may be interested to know that White will be appearing on today’s airing of the Dr. Phil show. Alongside White will be UFC lightweight number one contender Kenny Florian and former UFC light heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin. The show was recorded last week, and MMAJunki first reported their appearance, and the air date (check local listings for actual air-time):
The UFC contingent will apparently caution viewers (and the would-be fighters) about how real-life mixed martial artists prepare and train safely for their bouts. It’s also possible the trio will need to defend the sport to an audience likely to be unfamiliar with MMA.
White has previously appeared on the “Dr. Phil” show. Earlier this year, he was a special guest on the program and talked to a wife who was concerned about her husband’s aspirations of becoming an MMA fighter. White shared some statistics from the sport’s stellar safety record while also discussing the many precautions that are put in place to protect competitors.
The episode has been titled “Dangerous Teen Trends” and will include a confrontation with some teenagers who participate in “teen fight clubs” in hopes that this will help them attain a future career in the UFC. Other show topics include getting high on household products and online alternate lives.

Originally I was like WTF why????? Now ya that makes sense to say hey kids don’t do this in your backyard, you could get hurt because well you haven’t taken the time to do proper training and such… Understandable imo
How do I get one of those “online alternate lives”. That sounds apealing to me. Maybe in my virtual alternate life I can be a clorox snorting teenage fight-clubber.
I think its great to have these pro’s talk about mma. It’s super popular with kids and some kids really don’t understand that doing some of the things that fighters do in the octagon, @ home, underground fight clubs (wtf?) and other places other than a training facility, can be very dangerous unless you’re properly trained, you’re dumbass can get severly hurt and or hurt someone else.
Florian, son of doctor, is a well spoken, articulate dude and having a top fighter like him talk is good for the UFC and the sport.
I agree. I just hope Dr. Phil doesn’t come at it with the same perspectivve that Bill O’Reilly did. Dana was on with Rich Franklin and said all the right things. It didn’t matter to O’Reilly, though. When Dana started talking about how safe the UFC’s record is, and how MMA is “safer than boxing”, O’Reilly shrugged him off in disbelief. Actually, he was a bit rude.
O’Reilly is…well I’m not a fan of his. When he brings someone on his show, he already has his opinion formed and they are not going to change it. In addition, many people at FoxNews hate working with him because he’s a jerk. I don’t mention this because of his views, but because of his character and how he acts as a person.
yeah dude. O’reilly’s ignorant as **** dude. It’s almost like he has these guests on his show just so he can give them a piece of his mind instead of actually having a conversation.
I’m sure dr phil will be different and more receptive even though i’m sure he has his ideas about the sport as well.
LOL @ bill O’reilly… the dudes a fundamentalist.. hes always right no matter what.. anything on fox news is a joke anyways..
T3,
Not sure what you mean by fundamentalist, but the two association I can think of don’t apply to him. And I disagree that “anything on fox news is a joke”. I don’t spend a lot of time on the channel personally, but their news is pretty decent. And by news I mean regular news, not their opinion shows, which O’Reilly is an opinion show, just like Hardball is an opinion show. I really don’t want to get into an argument about O’Reilly or Fox, but I do have to say I don’t see them as a joke. Not to mention they have higher ratings than the other cable news outlets combined.
fundamentalist – strict adherence to any set of basic ideas or principles… aka the only right way is HIS way no other way…. sorry took me so long to reply.. as for fox news. i have my opinion just like anyone else, especially on fox news. and fox news is a joke…
My goodness Dr. Phil broke that candy smokin’ family down.
But seriously, Kenny Florini? F’in hilarious Dr. Phil. Dana was intense and well informed. I like how Dr. Phil refered to them as athletes and such and didn’t put the sport down.
I can’t believe I just watched Dr. Phil.
I DVRed the show… after the first segment I fast forwarded the candy smoker. They spent half the show on that crap, then 10 minutes on the fighting… whatever.
Make that less than 10 minutes…
Way too short IMO to have 3 key figures in the UFC flown to the Dr. Phil studios.
its cool diablo, your branching out. I watch oprah sometimes, seriously I hate being off of work during the day. anyhow I thought this was going to be another crucification of mma/ufc, but it wasnt. If only mma was allowed to be on other networks, more people could get educated and understand its safer than boxing. I was suprised the way dr. phil handled it, he didnt try to bash the mma.
Bill O’Reilly is a guy who just could never get laid in highschool and never could get his opinion out because other guys used to bully him around and make him do their homework. That’s why he is so loud and is always on the defensive and offensive and can’t conversate with anyone llike a mature adult. He only gives his point of view and cuts his guests off before they can share their thoughts because the guy can’t stand anyone who disagrees with him. just wanted to point that out.
Now: I’m kinda excited to see how Dana White will respond to Dr. Phil’s questions and possible criticism. Forrest and Florian are well spoken guys that can hold their own with Phil withought going “Chris Leben” and blurting out dumb sh*t that will make MMA fighters look like fools.
I hope that White takes this opportunity to educate those who are not so educated with MMA while he has this chance. I don’t know how Dr. Phil views MMA, but i hope that whatever the topic of conversation is, the audience and the people watching at home can come out of this with a better understanding of what MMA truly is and that the fighterz are true professionals and that this can be a family sport.
Part of the segment that Dana, Kenflo and Forrest were on has been added to the post above. The segment was really short, but I think Dr. Phil approached it from the right perspective.
