Match ups have been set for the semi final round of the DREAM welterweight grand prix, to take place on DREAM 10, on July 20. The finals will take place the same night pitting the respective winners against one another. According to reports by MMAWeekly the match-ups will be Andre Galvao vs. Jason High, and Hayato “Mach” Sakurai vs. Marius Zaromskis.

Ground ace, Galvao, made it past the first round of the tournament by submitting veteran fighter John Alessio, improving his record to 3-0. His opponent, High, got back in the win column with a quick submission victory over Yuya Shirai in the GP opening round, and brings a 7-1 record into the event.

Sakurai will look to improve on his 35-8-2 record in the second round of the tournament, after defeating fan favorite, Shinya Aoki via TKO in their highly anticipated first round bout. He will be facing off against Marius Zaromskis, who brings a 9-2 record into the event after an opening round unanimous decision win over Seichi Ikemoto.

The winners of the semi-final match-ups will then face one another in the tournament finals later in the evening. Also reported for the event is a lightweight rubber match between Shinya Aoki and Joachim Hansen for the DREAM lightweight title, that Hansen holds.

Please be sure to follow the rumors for the July 20th event on our MMAFrenzy DREAM 10 Rumors page.

Sounds like a good start to the card . The only fight I have to disagree with is the Aoki/Hansen fight . Hansen was supposed to fight JZ not too long ago and crapped out .JZ should be the first guy to fight then give aoki the winner .

I kinda agree with the JZ part of the equation, yet ponder this if you may….

Shinya Aoki is 1~0~0 (1NC) v JZ and HellBoy is 1~0~0 v JZ and well HellBoy v Aoki is split with one win a piece soooo there is always that… Futhermore Aoki is the WAMMA (F~WAMMA) LW champion and well HellBoy is the DREAM LW champion, and the missing piece (imo) is Eddie Alvarez who got destroyed against Aoki and won a UD against HellBoy is a crazy fight.. So to me it is clear that the winner of this bout will face Geisas in their defense of the DREAM and WAMMA (F`WAMMA) belts…

DREAM is doing soo good as of late its crazy, we got DREAM.9 which is an awesome card alone and plus the “Super Hulk” tourney now DREAM.10 is looking fab as well, CANNOT WAIT

  • Dr.doom says:

Yeah I hear ya on the LW situation . Wasnt that win though for hellboy against JZ a split decision ? JZ has never been finished in his losses , just on the wrong side of the call . The only other way to would be to have Hansen vs Alvarez and JZ vs Aoki … Then have the winners meet for the belts at DREAM 11 or 12 . The only snag is Alvarez’s commitment to BELLATOR in the short term view . He’s helping them start out and BELLATOR is another promotion to watch . Like a poor mans WEC IMO ….

    • fr702 says:

It was a majority decsion loss v HellBoy……

Bellator is an interesting situation, I do like what they are trying to do but ya “poor man’s WEC” kinda hits it on the head….

It’s a great time to be an MMA fan. DREAM’s cards are great, Bellator’s fights are outstanding (at least the few I’ve seen), WEC’s keeping the little guys interesting, MFC’s starting to step up and put more “names” on their cards, and let’s not forget Sengoku and Strikeforce. And HDNet’s got an hour and a half of MMA each day (except the couple days they put in ROH wrestling).
