Everyone wants to know whether a fight between Bellator Lightweight Champion Eddie Alvarez and Bellator Interim Lightweight Champion Will Brooks will happen at all. Well Bellator’s Bjorn Rebney appeared on Submission Radio and gave some insight.
“That’s the question. I said it post-fight, per Ed’s (Eddie Alvarez) agreement, per all the settlement agreement that we had with Ed to make all these fights happen, the next fight in Ed’s contract is Michael Chandler. And that’s per his agreement with us. So we’re gonna have to sit down and we’re gonna have to talk with Ed and talk with all the relative participants.”
Will Brooks has 4 knockouts, 4 submissions and 6 decision victories, while he has one knockout loss in his MMA career. Prior to joining Bellator he was on an eight fight winning streak. He won his Bellator debut against Ricardo Tirloni via unanimous decision at Bellator 87 on Jan / 31 / 2013. He lost his next fight against Saad Awad via 1st Rd KO at Bellator 91 on Feb / 28 / 2013. He went on a four fight winning streak starting with Cris Leyva via 3rd Rd KO at Bellator 97 on Jul / 31 / 2013, John Alessio via unanimous decision at Bellator 101 on Sep / 27 / 2013, Saad Awad via unanimous decision at Bellator 105 on Oct / 25 / 2013 and then he beat Alexander Sarnavskiy via unanimous decision at Bellator 109 on Nov / 22 / 2013.
“You know, but it could be Chandler/Alvarez three in the trilogy and it could be Will Brooks defending the interim belt against one of our tournament winners. That could be the scenario that ends up unfolding, because contractually Ed is contracted per his settlement to fight Mike in this second fight. So that may end up being the route that we have to go.”
However, Alvarez has one fight left on his Bellator contract and can pick his next fight.
Right now nothing has been confirmed or denied, keep it locked on MMA Frenzy for the latest.
