Alexis Davis (16-5) spoke with Karyn Bryant about her upcoming bantamweight title fight with Ronda Rousey (9-1) at UFC 175.
Her thoughts on Gina Corono coming back to the UFC and getting a title shot, but now since you are getting the title shot, how does she feel?
” I was not offended, but more taken back by that. First off, I think she is a very talented woman, but I don’t think she is going to make 135. Second of all, she has not fought in so many years, so you know she will have a lot of ring rust from that, put herself in that spot (Title shot) With her last fight ending in a loss. I thought the notion of it was pretty ridiculous.”
When you got the call, were you ready?
“I felt good, I felt totally shocked first of all. You know I was expecting to have another fight for that opportunity, but when they come call you have to be ready for that opportunity. There was no and’s or, buts about it.”
Why did you come to Team Alpha to train?
“Well, obviously Ronda (Rousey) is a very talented fighter, if you love her or hate her, she has skills, she is becoming a better fighter. I think this is something that I can constantly work on my wrestling and there is no better place to do that than here. They have helped my skills tremendously in the short amount of time since I have been here.”
How do you not get caught in an armbar?
“I’ve been training Jujitsu for a long time, and not to knock any skills that Ronda has, she is where she is because she can back it up. I think it’s years of high level Brazilian Jujitsu black belts. From everyone when I started training. It’s training hard, it’s all the pressure of training with these world champions. If I can hang with them, then I am sure I can hang with Ronda.”
