While the injury bug caught Australian MMA Fighter Anthony Perosh (14-8 MMA, 4-5 UFC) out of next month’s UFC Fight Night 43 event.
His replacement will be Sean O’Connell (15-5 MMA, 0-1 UFC), who now faces Gian Villante (11-5 MMA, 1-2 UFC).
Sean O’Connell has seven knockouts, three submissions and five decision victories MMA career. He has three KO and two submission losses. Leading up to his UFC debut, he was on a six fight winning streak, prior to joining the UFC he beat ex UFC fighter Marvin Eastman on Sep / 28 / 2013 via Unanimous Decision. He then beat Markhaile Wedderburn via rear naked choke in January of this year. He made his UFC debut against Ryan Jimmo, but lost the fight via 1st Rd knockout.
Gian Villante has seven knockouts, two submission and 2 decision victories. He has been knocked out twice in his MMA career. The longtime Strikeforce fighter was on a three fight winning streak prior to joining the UFC. He beat Keith Berry, Trevor Smith and Derrick Mehmen. He made his UFC debut against Ovince St. Preux at UFC 159 – Jones vs. Sonnen on Apr / 27 / 2013, but lost the fight via Majority decision. He beat Cody Donovan via 2nd Rd TKO at UFC 167 – St. Pierre vs. Hendricks on Nov / 16 / 2013. In his last fight he lost to Fabio Maldonado via Unanimous Decision at UFC Fight Night – Shogun vs. Henderson 2 on Mar / 23 / 2014.
The headliner will be a middleweight contest between Nate Marquardt vs. James Te Huna, “UFC Fight Night 43 Te Huna vs. Marquardt” takes place June 28 at Vector Arena in Auckland, New Zealand.
