A Featherweight bout has just been announced between Jussier Formiga (16-3 MMA, 2-2 UFC) and Zach Makovsky (18-4 MMA, 2-0 UFC) for UFC 176 this August.
Jussier Formiga has never got a knockout victory, but does have 8 submissions and 8 decision victories in his pro MMA career. He has been knocked out twice, but never submitted. Prior to joining the UFC, he was on a five fight winning streak, but made his UFC debut against John Dodson, which he lost via in a 2nd Rd KO war in October of 2012. He beat Chris Cariaso via Unanimous Decision in May of 2013. He then lost to Joseph Benavidez in September via 1st Rd TKO. He gained another win over Scott Jorgensen in March of this year with a 1st Rd Rear Naked Choke.
Zach Makovsky has one knockout, 6 submissions and 11 decision victories in his MMA career. He has never been knocked out, but submitted 3 times. Prior to joining the UFC, he was 2-2 in his last four, but riding a 2 fight win streak. He beat Scott Jorgensen via Unanimous Decision in December of 2014 and then a win over Josh Sampo via Unanimous Decision in February of this year.
Jose Aldo and top challenger Chad Mendes will be the main event for this card. UFC 176 takes place Aug. 2 at Los Angeles’ Staples Center. The evening’s main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims that air on FOX Sports 1 and stream on the UFC Fight Pass.
