Check It Out : UFC 100 Poster, Rich Franklin Training With Anderson Silva

Posted by Eric Shapiro on May 7, 2009 at 1:32 pm ET17 Comments

Ah, the UFC 100 poster. You know looking at this, I almost forget that UFC 98 and 99 even exist…

And here we have a snapshot of Rich Franklin working hard with none other than Anderson Silva in prep for Franklin’s UFC 99 meeting with Wanderlei Silva. You remember Wanderlei, hes that other Brazilian who also used to knock people out a lot. Any way, despite this ambiguous report where The Spyder sort of pleaded ignorance regarding Franklin training with him, the above pic proves the old adage “the enemy of my enemy is my friend.”

darn that is ufc marketing at it’s finest. The way all the fighters are lined up in that poster is sick. I agree, this poster just makes you want it to be 7/11 already.

    • jazzkok says:

Yeah dude that poster is ****ing sick dude. UFC 100 is going to the ****!!

I like franklin but i want to see wanderlei win and drop to mw if it’s not too much of a cut for him. It would be kool to eventually see silva vs silva.

  • Cool Poster,can’t wait for this one.\

Brock Lesnar vs. Frank Mir: Don’t think Frank will score a sub this time around or a tko like in the Nog fight. Lesnar is still very green, but he;s a huge son’**** who can control any guy on the ground. I see Lesnar taking this one by tko, he’s too big and agile for Mir to hang with this time around.

Georges St. Pierre vs. Thiago Alves: This should be one of the best fights ever. St. Pierre can defeat Alves standing and on the ground. GSP is greatly underrated when it comes to his stand-up, i agree he does not have punching power like Alves, but he’s still a very skilled striker. Alves’s only shot to win this fight is to score a ko or tko. GSP is hungry to prove to the everyone that he is the best Welterweight and that the BJ Penn fight was a real victory. Alves is like “Clubber Lang” from “Rocky 3″, he’s hungry as hell, he’s a monster and is ready and game to fu*k GSP up, this is the fight i’m most loooking foward to. Could go wither way, but GSP is still the 170 pounder to beat.

Dan Henderson vs Michael Bisping: Dan Henderson is 39 years old, that’s the only way i see Bisping winning is if Hedersons age shows in this fight, other than that, Henderson should and most likely destroy the fu*k out of overrated Bisping. Thats it thats all, Bisping is not that talented and he has zero ko power. Henderson can knock him out or control him on the ground. Henderson should come out with the win and get his second title shot at 185.

I pretty much got to agree with you on that one. Although I do give the edge to GSP aswell, I still think Thiago could reverse him and GNP him too. He spent very little time on top of Matt Hughes, and caused a ton of damage. Who knows.

      • yeah i agree with you too, but when Alves had Hughes on the ground, he already had messed him up with that flying knee and thats when Hughes dropped and Alves finished him, but yeah it can go either way.

    My thoughts

Brock vs Frank early tko by brock or 3rd 4th round sub by Mir.

Gsp vs Silva GSP destroyes him point blank.

Henderson vs Bisping. Dans age has been showing in his fights but he still has that right ko hand power. BUTTTT Bisping by UD.

    Franklin KO’s Wandy.

    My Thoughts.

Come on you guys, if GSP loses to Thiago, you guys will be shocked. I for one will NOT.
Thiago Alves is very very VERY good and I think GSP is the favorite yes, but not by as much as many would think. I am Canadian and I too love GSP as he is arguably the best p4p out there, certainly at 170, but I really think you guys heavily underestimate Thiago Alves, he is a killer man…. and you all saw Serra land a fluke punch, and Thiago does not throw flukes, he destroys excellent fighters. I give GSP a 55/45 advantage IMO. I’d say the only way GSP wins is by a 5 round decision, no way will he end the fight. If Thiago wins it will be by KO or maybe a split dec.
You guys need to wake up and respect Alves, unlike many top opponents in the UFC, ALVES truely is the number 2 WW in the world, that is no accident and he is a major threat to GSP, GSP ain’t “destroying” Thiago Alves….NEVER. He may out perform him but that’s it.
My prediction is GSP by Decision, possibly a split.

But I would not be surprised to see Alves Knock him TF out too, he is a killer and I understand talent when I see it.
Respect him like GSP does, otherwise your silly little statement will make you look so stupid when you see how close this fight really is.

      • Eric says:

I agree with you, I don’t think alves should be taken lightly. However, the preparation GSP tends to go through before his fights is absurd, and on another level than probably any other fighter out there. You can be damn sure that he will be training with people that are better than Thiago in every aspect of the game (including strikers) just like he did with Penn. So I think that is why a lot of people are saying GSP will ‘destroy’ Alves. I personally do not think it will be one-sided a la UFC 94, however I really don’t see GSP getting ‘out-skilled’ in any area. He will not be outmatched. I think marvelknight above made a good point, saying that GSP’s striking is underrated. This is probably because his wrestling has been so dominant, it’s almost hard to see past it.

Does Thiago have more powerful strikes – yes. That is why I see the only way he wins this fight is to catch GSP in a bad position when/if he makes a mistake. If GSP fights a perfect fight, Alves can’t win. He simply doesn’t have the tools to do so, imo. Alves only wins if he ‘catches’ GSP, and ko’s him, or ‘catches’ him and GSP loses as a result of that blow and gets subsequently pounded out on the ground. Frankly, I see this fight taking place wherever GSP takes it. He won’t be taken down, and if he is, he won’t be kept down…if guys like Evans and Marquardt can’t keep him down, who are much bigger than him with wrestling pedigrees, and furthermore he can get up from under them without cage walking…then I really don’t see Alves keeping him down. And if Hughes can take Alves down, then trust that GSP can too. GSP’s guard passing is much tighter and aggressive than Hughes’ as well, imo, so he will be able to do something with the takedown as well.

So yes, I respect Alves, and I would not call him a longshot even, as he is a serious dude, and anything could happen. In terms of sheer skill though, it doesn’t look great for Alves. If GSP does destroy Alves the way he’s been destroying all recent competition, then I really don’t see who beats GSP at present at WW…

        Eric
Thank you sir you typed those words eloquently my good man.

        Wakeupcall,
Okay if, if Thiago wins hey good job I did’nt disrespect him by saying GSP would Dominate him I’m simply stated what I believe and rightly so by GSP performances he would do.

GSP Boxing is very very very good. It is fair better than Thiago’s who is a one two puncher, Yes he has power but no where near the skill of GSP. Plan on GSP to give Alves the “John Fitch” treatment. Where he used his superior boxing and to DESTROY Fitch. Then when ready leg kicks, + GnP. Hey he might not KO Silva but you can Destroy someone without the KO…

GSP is a fair better fighter and has tooooo many tools,
Heres a wake up call for ya.
lets see how your boy thiago does in the 4th/5th round when GSP is still going full blast and Thiago is tired…..

Frak Mir can score a sub on Brock, but this time we won’t. Brock is a way diiferent fighter than he was in their first fight. He has better stand, better technique and most important, he has more experience and now knows what Frank Mir can do. Before he got caught with that leg lock, Brock was murdering Mir, Brock will take Mir down and pound tha crap out of him, but this time he knows better to not make the same rookie mistake he made in the first fight. If they both decide to stand up, Lesnar is faster more agile and has overall better movement than Mir, and oh yeah…has way more power. Mir is another guy that has to load up his punches to give them power, Lesnar can throw a punch with speed and power Mir can’t. Brock problably will not stop him in the first, but will for sure stop him that night.

Bisping can win by decision, but won’t. Although Henderson’s age is showing a bit, he’s still hasn’t looked like Liddell,Nog, or Couture. He still has punching power and a way better overall game than Bisping….Henderson just beat Franklin, Bisping will be no problem.

Frankiln will not ko, but problaly get ko’d by Wanderlei. Rich Franklin has lost some of his swagger, meaning that he;s not the same fighter like before. Against Dan Henderson he was too cautious, has he been more agresive he problably could have worn Henderson down because Franklin has great cardio and conditioning, but he didn;t. Wanderlei always comes in to beat his opponents down, even if sometimes he gets beat down, he still comes in determined which will make the differece in this fight. Wanderlei rarely backs away, he will get in Franklins face and mess him up,however if Franklin is game and also comes in agressive, he can score a ko, but the key for Franklin is simple, don’t think too much and bring it. This fight will end by knockout, but i;m giving the edge to Wanderlei.

        What’s up homie!
We meet yet again my friend.

While I agree with you on the Mir/Lesnar 1st fight, I just see Mir again pulling out a sub on Big Lesnar. Yeah he was giving Mir the Business and he is more experienced now and he’s been training. But there is no amount of traing for Lesnar to know or escape all the years of training and experience Franny has.

Frank knows Brock has improved but Mir is a crafty veteran who can slip on a sub without that green brock even knowing whats going on. Plus Frank has finally dedicated himself to training like a champion so he will be ready imo. Believe it or not their first fight I was rooting for Brock cause I didn’t like Frank’s attitude at all but only after what he said after the Big Nog fight I respect him now and pull for the guy.

Dont count Bisping out man, he is a beast he is no easy win, But I see how you say Dan can beat him though.

Franklyn/Wandy–Wanderlie even though he can wrestle he doesn’t Bjj doesn’t use it for some reason and when was the last time we even seen him use the clinch ?? He prefers to slang and bang Wandy weakness is straight punches, thats why he had such a hard time with chuck but One of Rich’s strength is that straight left, and as YOU yourself said he rarely backs away if Richy can let his hands go Night Night wandy…..Back to making more snow angels in the octagon.

  • gibor says:

GSP’s fight can go either way, but I kinda doubt that he will lose, he is too skilled to be killed :-)

Bisping? he knows his MMA, dont write him off so fast.

    and regarding Mir vs Lesnar?
hmmm, Lesnar is a big motha… but Mir ain’t a pipsqueek either.

I think Mir has a chance, I’ll be rooting for him !!!

  • GarRule says:

There has to be one upset here. There’s always at least ONE upset on a card like this.

    Who’s favored, Lesnar or Mir?

  • eldiablo says:

Bowmans has Lesnar as a 2.75:1 favorite and Mir as a 2:1 underdog. As you can see, Bowmans will always make money.

  • Nynuc says:

I think Mir will definitly beat brock lesner. Brock lesner has been trainer hard, When I first seen him in MMA I honestly laughed. But he has definitly gained some respect. However, Brocks idea for mir, is to pound the crap out of him on the ground, and mir is a monster on the ground. I think the first fight between them may have been a fluke for both of them. Mir getting caught in those punchs, and the leglock. But brock lesner relies on his power to win fights. Frank mir relies on technique. If they go to the ground, and brock ends up in franks gaurd, I think frank will submit/sweep and win. Frank knows NOW what position brock is shooting for. Brock was winning like hell the first time, and might be overconfident this time. Ahh well, I think mir is going to win. I can’t wait for 100.
