Always makes me feel for these guys. I mean alot of these guys really dont make s*** from there fights and you have to think bills get tight when you expect a pay check and then have to delay because of a simple injury.
UFC fighters who aren’t one fight and done scrubs get paid well. We go over this all the time. Post about what fighters earned for a PPV? WE cover it. Post about someone missing a card due to injury? We cover it again. And it gets old, so stop spewing the same debunked crap, please.
Per-fight pay makes up well under 40% of a fighters earnings. If a broken hand makes the fighter go bankrupt, he should have been working at Walmart of the Home Depot too because he was never going to make it anyway.
Plus Houston got resigned recently, so his contract is good enough to keep him there. Injuries do suck, but look at the Kenny Florian interview where he stated he wanted a quick time-frame for the Penn fight because of bills needing to be paid and his last fight paid him like 80k i think?
Anyhow sucks, but maybe that was good for Houston, his opponent was another grappler, which Houston sucks at.
If a guy can’t survive on what Florian is making, he has bigger problems. Like needing to can his accountant and financial advisors.
florian was probably having a good time and splurging plus florian is the son of a doctor, i think he’ll be ok. houston is a “dj” with six kids.
And how is that anyone’s problem but his? If he has time to “dj” he has time to get a job to pay bills and support his kids. Getting paid to fight isn’t a right.
IMO here is another guy who needs to move to 185 cause the big 205ers are to much for him to handle after 3:oo min into the fight.
But then again anyone with a decent bjj game can beat him if they survive the 1st few minutes.
Any decent striker can too, since he leaves the glass chin exposed.
There’s a reason his nickname come fight night is Houston “60 Seconds of Fury” Alexander. Three minutes into a fight would mean that he spend the last six months working on his cardio.
I think they should let Chuck fight him and just maybe it could be a going away prez for Chuck.. just maybe.. OH i forgot.. CANT keep his damn hands up.. sorry Huston.. hope u get better
Damn dude i was hella looking forward to seeing my boy houston fight again. Hope he gets better and comes back soon.
I was looking foward to watching Houston fight again. Despite, what a lot of people say, he doesn’t suck, he has potential to be better than what he’s shown. In his last fight he got too exciting and reckless which is why he was submitted. He can ko any guy if given the opportunity. He does have a weak chin and has little to no ground game, but if he worked on his takedown defense and ground gam a bit he’d be able to upset some guys.
about that Chuck Liddell remark, gibing Alexander to him as a going away present? Alexander would also ko CHuck and make Chuck look even more old and done.
I hoope Houston comes back soon. At least he comes to fight. He’s not like Jardine who many poeple believe is a good fighter. Even though he’s lost a few in a row he’s still more exciting than Jardine will ever be, and they keep giving Jardine top guys that he doesn’t desrve. Houston Alexander deserves another shot. I hope the UFC doesn’t cut him because he can still maje exciting fights with a lot of guys, and unlike guys like Jardine, Houston will always show up to fight even if he loses or wins. Jardine will always come to win by decision or get ko’d.
Jardine wins occasionally. Jardine doesn’t get KOed in 8 seconds by James Irvin. Jardine was 15 seconds away from beating Jackson – who was offered a title fight recently, I believe.
Houston Alexander IS Chuck Liddell, minus 3 or 4 years. Except he isn’t. Because 3 or 4 years ago, Liddell didn’t have a 3 fight losing streak.
Alexander is 2-3 career in the UFC. What exactly has he shown, besides 0 cardio and an ability to lose to everyone you think he should have beaten?
Alexander has shown that he is a very exciting fighter. Yeah he is 2-3 in the UFC, but at least he has won 2 in a row and by ko. Jardine can only win once in a while and only by decision. I’d rather watch Alexander fight 10 times than watch one fight of Jardine trying to win on points.
Maybe your right about Alexander, i’lll accept that because i’m talking like his fan which i am. But dude Jardine? He was not 15 seconds away from beating Rampage, did you even see that fight? Jardine looked hopeless man. Jardine occasionally wins, but by lackluster decisions and can’t win again, he gets ko’d instead
Alexander ko’d Jardine then Jardine beats Liddell by decision, then gets ko’d by Wanderlei then barely ln a lackluster fight beats Vera.
Dude Jardine did not almost beat Jackson, watch the fight again.
And yet, the judges told him that he had the decision before the knockdown at the end of the third. He had already taken one round and had stuffed Jackson for the third until that point.
Alexander has two wins. One over Jardine, one of Sakara (who seems to give everyone highlight reel KOs). Then he lost to…who? Thago silva, long before he was considered a contender. An :08 KO from Irvin. And Eric Schafer?
Jardine meanwhile has beaten: Griffin. Vera. Liddell. Gouveia. Whitehead. He lost DECISIONS to: Jackson, Bonnar.
Alexander is a 2-punch wonder. Avoid him for 60 seconds and he’s a nothing.
Gouveia got robbed in that fight And everyone knows that Jardine wasn’t even close to victory in the Rampage fight.
When you watch all the pre-fight interviews that involve Jardine, he ALWAYS point out his vicotry over Forrest, Jardine is a one ko wonder, that fight was what 2-3 years ago almost and thats all he talks about. Alexander may be at the bottom of the crop, but at least he comes in to ko or to get ko’d, Jardine comes in too cautious and looks to win by points.
There is something to be said for a fighter smart enough to try to win. What it says about one too…simple to learn to fight in new ways is beyond me.
With Alexander, you know what you are going to get and how to beat him. Avoid the big punch for a minute, take him when he wears down. He’s a boring, one-trick pony who should have been cut already.
dbiz, you make a strong point. I’ll just say that i’ve never been a Jardine fan, and i’ve never felt that he deserves to be called a top contender, but i can’t argue with what your saying about Alexander cuz it’s true, so i’m just going to leave it at that.
Maybe 6 weeks with no striking will tempt him to get down on the mat and work on a few things down there.
HOLY CRAP!!! HE’S BEEN TRAINING WITH FEDOR!!!!
At this point I do believe he will be cut soon, cause without an exciting win he is a one trick {well 60 sec. trick} pony!
I like that he was so exciting but without any other weapons its evolve or get ate alive, I mean he got beat by Eric {the Red} Schafer, who got destroyed by Bisping didn’t he?? a 185er even though he was 205 at the time.
He should move to 185 and see how he does before they cut him.
Ohh only 1 judge told jardine he had him up before that last knock down.
Have you looked at him lately? I am not sure he has 15 pounds to cut to get to 185.
I find Houston Alexander a fun fighter to watch, O and he does standup for his kids and supports them, hell even gave one of his daughters a kidney (thats a good dad in my book)
Yes I will agree that he hasn’t “the best” Career in the UFC but the guy is fun to watch and I personally root for the man.. Ofcourse he needs to work on his ground game, cuz he doesn’t have one but hey I’m going to continue to cheer him on and lets see if he can improve and evolve his game..
its been far too long since Nebraska was in the House.
Cut him. He sucks more than Tito’s girlfriend.
