After UFC 172 was over, UFC President Dana White spoke with Fox Sports own Ariel Helwani about Jon Jones retaining his belt against Glover Teixeira in a five round dominant performance. Check out the highlights:
Jon Jones Beat Glover Teixeira At His Own Game Tonight, Is That a Surprise?
“Not the fight I expected, I expected for Glover to close the distance and try to bang with him. As well as Jon to try to take him down and throw elbows. Jon stood up with him the whole fight. If you didn’t know Jon Jones had a chin after the Gustafsson fight, then you know it now. He has a chin and a half, he fought a great fight, and he put on a clinic. He picked him apart and did whatever he wanted to do with him.”
Were You Surprised That Jones Changed His Gameplan Halfway Through The Fight?
“No, he is extremely talented and tonight was one of his best performances. Against a guy, I told you before there was 5-1, 6-1 odds against this guy. He has knockout power, the stats do not lie, look at what he has done in the past and he ate all of those punches. He even shut down Teixeira down to the point where Teixeira wanted to be he wasn’t throwing anything. He was staring at him a lot, there was a point in the fifth round where I could not tell if he got stunned up against the fence or he just got tired, but Glover never took it to him and never tried to finish.”
Were You Bothered By Jones Putting His Hands In The Face Of Teixeira?
“Yeah, we have to stop that stop, putting the hands on the face is something bad, but you know it happens when guys have reach, they do that a lot.”
