Fedor Emelianenko Submits Shinya Aoki in Exhibition Matchup
WAMMA heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko submitted lightweight title-holder Shinya Aoki on Wednesday in a special exhibition matchup at M-1 Challenge in Tokyo, Japan, forcing Aoki to tap to an Achilles lock midway through the five-minute matchup.
Emelianenko tossed Aoki to the canvas on several occasions using sambo throws and locked on multiple submissions only to let them go to allow the bout to continue, while Aoki attempted a flying armbar on Fedor during the session.
The bout, which was advertised as a “special super exhibition,” had no scoring system and resembled a training session. Both fighters appeared to have a good time with the matchup, which will not affect the fighters MMA records, smiling for most of the contest in front of more than 1,000 spectators.
Fedor’s next MMA bout is expected to take place this summer in Japan as part of an Affliction/M-1/DREAM co-promoted event. Aoki will return to action on July 20th at DREAM 10 in a rematch against Joachim Hansen.

Go Fedor!!!!
Congratulations, Mr High School Senior, on your thrilling beatdown of a 7th grader!!
Fedor needs to sign with the UFC already. He’s done everything he can do outside the UFC, he’s beat all the heavies outside the UFC that matter, most of them anyway. These other things are not significant to his career
YES YES
Marvel
I finally agree with you!
He needs to go ahead and come to the ufc before some nobody ko’s him or defeats him.
Well we agree. That’s a first my friend
ohh “before he sufers defeat ” and lose’s all that precious best in the world mystic!!!
Even in having fun in a exhibition the dude still cant lose.
Fedor is still young, not that young but still in his prime, so it would be awesome to see him in the UFC and back up all the hype that surrounds him. Feodr is a well rounded Heavyweight. He submitted Randelman after taking that brutal slam from him. His hand speed is impressive and he can ko any guy. If he would only really get in better shape, it would be hard to stop him. But he really does need to sign with the UFC and face Kongo,Lesnar,Carwin and all the other guys.
Its just a shame his hands are made of lego

You just need to start talking sense dude. Even in the shape Fedor fights at there is nobody out there that can hang with him I mean in the first bit of your jibber jabber you mention the slam he recieved from Randleman which to be fair I still dont know how it didnt result in a serious injury yet Fedor eat it up and beat him down just showing how tough the guy is yet you then say he needs to get in better shape, I dont understand what it would achieve apart from making him more astetically pleasing. Out of Fedor 30 or so fight apart from the TK loss controvosy its only ever been Fujita at PRIDE 26 I believe it was that had him hurt or in trouble
Tw@,
Dude get your $hit straight, i’m a big Fedor fan, i always say what you just said. I only suggested that if he were to get in better condition he would be even more unstoppable. I am very aware of how good the guy is. I just feel that it’s time for him to shut everyone up and run through the UFC Heavyweight diviision. I think we are in agreement man, i’m just suggesting he get in better cardio shape, not that he get an 8 pack of abs. The reason for that was that he didn’t look so fresh when Arlovski was trading with him, his hands were down and he looked a bit gassed until he knocked him out.
You must of been watching a different fight to me, Arlovski had some success got too eager and got knocked out, whether Fedor come in the shape and size of Tank Abbot or as jacked as Kongo he would swan through the UFC HW division, in my opinion at the minute Josh Barnett is his biggest challenge
Tw@,
Dude i agree with you, Arlovski did get too eager and then got ko’d.
Fedor can no doubt beat any Heavyweight in the world, but he will come across a guy who will take him to his limit and really push the pace on him and he will pay the price for his lack of cardio. Although Arlovski got careless and then got ko’d, Fedor still looked a bit gassed. But dude you make an accurate point.
You too man I see what your saying, id love to see him in UFC and love to see him fight Mir, personally I dont think it will happen, if he was to come to the UFC do you not think he would recieve a Anderson Silva style bashing? Because even though hes the best HW in the world I dare say he isnt the most exciting of fighters, sure would be good to hear Bruce Buffer introduce the guy though! Talk about goosebumps
Tw@,
Yeah dude it would be cool to hear Buffer finally announce Fedor in the octagon. Most of the great fighters made their wat into the UFC at some point, Fedor should be no different. He just wants too much money that quite frankly, he hasn’t earned yet. If he comes into the UFC and destroyes everyone, then he can start demanding the big bucks. And yeah, i think that he’d get bashed more than Anderaon because Fedor has more to prove in the UFC than Anderson,Anderson doesn’t have anything to prove, Fedor does, in the eyes of Dana White anyway.
Word
As a fan of Fedor, I have mixed feelings about him moving to UFC as I understand the contracts are extremely restrictive and do not allow him to compete in almost any other events, including russian sambo championships which Fedor’s manager will almost definately not allow. However, at least we get to see him SMASH Brock Lesnar and Frank Mir, and shut up Dana White once an for all.
listen up guys fedor in the ufc would be a dream come true but while dana white is paying his fighters chicken feed it aint gonna happen some people say fedor is over paid but i say hes under paid he earns about 2-3 million dollars a fight u might think thats a lot but when you are basically classed as the hardest man on the planet 2-3 mil aint enough when you consider some boxers get 20 mil a fight for only being tough in their weight division , fists only wearing big ass padded gloves , then theres fedor fighting all styles of fighting all rolled into one fighting guys that out weigh him by 100lbs hes undoubtly the pound for pound hardest man on the planet and should be paid for that. the ufc needs fedor more than fedor needs the ufc , fedor has money coming from all angles if he goes to the ufc he will lose all them angles and end up with less money cos of ufcs strict contract so if dana wants him so badly and he does hes gonna have to pay him mega money and let fedor do what he wants
Im shocked. Who could have predicted this outcome.
Honestly i just dont get it. Most of the people here turn into putty as soon as fedor is mentioned. What the hell has the guy done? Hes fighting outcasts from the UFC half the time. Dont get me wrong if he was to say, destroy a Frank Mir, Randy C., or even a Gonzaga caliber opponent id say ok lets crown the guy. But really Tim Silvia? Andre Arlovski? These guys dont even fight in MMA anymore… Anyway thats my Fedor rank.
You must not have been reading this site very long, for most part this site is probably more anti-Fedor than pro-Fedor and pretty well agree with your sentiments.
I’m with you.. besides the fact that he only fights the “on the way out” heavies. I wouldn’t be suprised if the fight with Randy Couture happend this year or next instead of 3 years ago when Randy would have put up a fight. I wonder if he really does have a say in all of it. From what i’ve understood he doesn’t do anything he lets his management team decide what underwear to put on
Dude Fedor beat Nog, cro cop and lot of others in their prime. He has accomplished whatever he has to. Do some research on him……everything will be clear.
For the two of you who replied to me,
I do frequent the site quite often and for a while now. Hmm I guess i just missed most of the anti-Fedor comments. Totally possible. I just lurk mostly not feeling the need to comment. And yeah he beat Cro Cop and Nog in there prime, but right before nog was KO’ed but Mir many people still considered Nog in his “prime”. With Fedor I’m talking right now. I’ll give him what he did in the past but right now i just dont think hes all that great. The fighters he is beating now are on a much lower skill tier than the elite fighters many people think he would beat. I just really dont agree is all.
Sure, he beat those guys in their prime… three and a half almost four years ago. Yeah, he’s accomplished a lot, but not that much in the last three years.
Andre Arlovski is no one to take lightly in any way. Tim Sylvia ( I know many hate him) is also not one to take lightly. Just a couple names he’s taken on (and out). For ANYONE to say A.A is a joke is laughable. Come on, open mouth, change feet that’s retarded. And there are lot’s of killers outside the UFC that are quite capable of competing in the UFC’s heavyweight division, to say Fedor is anything but a champion comes off as being naive and a bit of wishful thinking. He wanted to fight in the UFC, but couldn’t get a contract that was agreeable, can’t blame him for that. IT’s no different for a fighter to want to secure a future as much as an organization does.
Just my opinion.
I like the name. “special super exhibition.” Sounds a little like “the super terrific happy hour.” (a la Seinfeld). I don’t mind stuff like this. it can’t hurt the sport any doing stuff like this for the fans. It kind of reminds me of when Rocky took on Thunderlips (Hulk Hogan) for charity. Although I don’t recall the hulkster ever tapping Rocky with an ankle lock. That would have been sweet. In fact, that would have been “special super.”
Next up for Fedor is Miguel Torres.
Fedor vs Brock Lesner. Hows that for a UFC debut. I don’t think Fedor can toss brock around like he did a nobody from Japan. Sign already and put up or shut up
Are you calling Shinya Aoki a nobody from Japan? That’s hardly the case… its just that Aoki fights at lightweight normally, and Fedor fights at heavyweight normally.
1. Aoki Shinya is not nobody. He’s an extremely good submission fighter, currently a DREAM lightweight champion. Watch his videos online, before you say things you don’t mean.
2. This was an exhibition fight. Exhibition. It was for fun, of course nobody thought about the weight difference. It was like an international football, or as you call it soccer “friendly”. Fun to watch, but not a real game. Exhibition.
3. Fedor has proven a lot, simply because he’s been winning consistently and comprehensively for the last few years. He is consistent in NOT losing against a very diverse variety of fighters.
Brock Lesnar is a good figher, but you can’t really compare him to Fedor. It would be like comparing Mike Tyson to a half good boxer who’s just starting out in the industry.
Objectiveness please.
Fedors sick dude but he’ll never really get that “best in the world” credit until “he consistantly fights and beats the best in the world”. Like Dana white said. I think he’s a talented hw but all of these matches he has on the side of his mma career really don’t prove much or make it better for him when talking about being the best in the world.
He’d probably beat brock, or randy, or he’d probably get his ass kicked, WELL NEVER KNOW cuz he’s either gay or his managment is stupid AND gay
Fedor could, and when signed, will destroy any fighter the ufc puts in front of him.
Dude…hes not going to sign with the UFC. Look at how much he wants to make a fight. There is no reason to pay him that much. Plus we all know how the UFC pays its fighters.
(You need to pick one name and stick with it, but not the one you had in here. – Justin)
Gomer Pyle couldn’t have said it better, “Surprise. surprise, surprise!”
Fedor deserves respect for this. Even though he “obviously” won he did take on a guy that has great grappling skills and could have tarnished his reputation.
As long as the UFC holds exclusive contracts, he will never sign with them. People can bash him all they want, but the bottom line is he is a humble champion that isn’t going to sign all his rights away because a bunch of band wagon un-educated mma fans don’t know him. By that comment, I am not implying anyone here is in that genre, but most UFC fans that “pay the bills” are.
Fedor doesn’t have much to prove at this point. I would LOVE to see him in the UFC, but I don’t see it happening and don’t blame him for it not happening.
Like I said before. I think he absolutly has something to prove. maybe not to himself(heck if i got paid that much i wouldnt care either) but to fans like myself who like to see the best fight the best. Fedor(who def. has the potential to be the best)wont fight the best. I’m sure there are many out here who agree with me that seeing Fedore fight some real competition would do nothing but good for the Sport.
(If you’re not going to go by Rob, pick another name other than the one you had for this comment. – Justin)
i would love to watch this ….is there a video?
but i think fedor is a great fighter but he needs to step his game up and go to the ufc …great matchups to be made …
The video will be made available at a later date, read the story about the weigh-ins it has the details (I think).
Ha. Justin you’re obviously confused. ‘rob’ and ‘the rob’ aren’t the same person. I’ve been posting under ‘the rob’ for well over a year now…
No,
I see what Justin is sayin. I had posted under a name he saw unfit – no problems here BTW my bad Justin. I did not see the warning you put on that other post, wont happen again.
Rob,
No worries, and thanks.
The Rob,
Nah, I knew there were two different people.
1year and 25 days to be exact “the rob”
Hey does anyone know what weight they were at?? Light Weight Champ vs Heavyweight Champ seems like too much of a weight difference to find a catch weight.
FEDOR RULES, hes a great champ for doing an exhibition match like this.
I want to see Fedor bulldoze Brock Lesnar but we’ll probably never see that happen.
It wasn’t at any weight, it just an “exhibition”.
Why is Fedor not fighting Barnett at Affliction 3? At least it is posted that way on the rumors page. Oh yeah who cares he threw around a small child big ups Fedor. Come to the UFC and see where your skills really are at. Also Maia vs Marquart UFC 102 in Portland to be announced. I’ll be in attendance for this one.
I would love to see Maia vs marquardt…
I think Fedor makes about as much money as anyone in MMA. Someone here said that Fedor was asking for too much money from the UFC and that’s why he isn’t fighting with the promotion, from what I can tell it wasn’t a “Money” problem it was a UFC demanding Fedors “First Child”, (and by this I mean demanding so much that it’s impossible for Fedor to accept the contract). The main problem last time these two talked was that Fedor wanted to compete in “Sambo” tournaments (the real reason he is so loved in his country)and the UFC wouldn’t have allowed him to compete in anything not promoted by the UFC. Now I understand their resoning and not wanting to risk him getting an injury that would have kept him from fighting in the UFC but, the UFC is has a history of asking “a lot” from their fighters, (ie Jon Fitch and the video game issue). They were willing to let Fitch go because he wouldn’t sign their contract. That says a lot about the UFC (Dana White mostly). Can you imagine the revenue “The Last Emperor” would generate! Not just here in North America but in Europe, My God it would likely make the Lesner vs Randy bank roll look like Dana’s “Swear Jar” at home on his kitchen counter (which I’m sure is quite substantial)!!!
Again as always it’s just my opinion.
I think there was also the problems that Dana White still has yet to meet Fedor, and Fedor’s managers were wanting the UFC to go in on building stadiums in Russia.
