Thiago Silva

Thiago Silva

After UFC 101 opponent Forrest Griffin was pulled from their co-headliner to meet Anderson Silva in a blockbuster matchup, Thiago Silva didn’t have to wait long to be matched up with a new opponent, though his next fight will take place several weeks later than originally scheduled.

According to MMAjunkie, Silva and Keith Jardine have agreed to meet at UFC 102 on August 29th in Portland, Oregon.

Silva suffered his first career loss to Lyoto Machida in his most recent bout, falling victim to a first-round knockout at UFC 94 in January. He had previously won all 13 bouts of his career, including 4 straight UFC victories over James Irvin, Tomasz Drwal, Houston Alexander, and Antonio Mendes.

Jadine has gone just 2-3 in his last five bouts inside the octagon, but has faced stiff competition over the streatch. After becoming Houston Alexanders first victim, Jardine bounced back with a victory over Chuck Liddell. After suffering another quick knockout loss to Wanderlei Silva, Jardine rebounded with a win Brandon Vera. “The Dean of Mean” was last in action in March in the UFC 96 headliner against Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, but suffered a unanimous decision loss.

Well this is a good fight. I would rather see Dean of Mean Vs Shogun though.

I guess Shogun and Rich Franklin would be a good one since he is already training some with A. Silva and learning about that clinch.

  • Jdubb says:

if Dean dont win i expect he will be cut… 2-3 in your last five outings… YIKES

  • bigchris2328 says:

I think shogun gets the loser of evans-machida. in this fight I like thiago. I think jardine will get ktfo’d and it will be a ugly ko. jardine will probably go stiff. thiago is a dangerous guy. jardine is a very good fighter, but against brawlers like houston and wandy, he has trouble. thiago is the same kind of vicious brawler. thiago by 1st round ko.

  • marvelknight4 says:

I hope Thiago beats the crap out of Jardine and once and for all proves to everyone that Jardine is not that good and that he is greatly and I mean GREATLY overrated.

    • OnlyTrue1 says:

      Whatzz up Marvel

I hate to do it again buttt I gotta disagree with you again.

Dean of Mean or poop deck pappy or Sardine whatever you wanna call him, dude got skill man and is a good fighter.

True he is a gate keeper for sure but I feel a neccessary one. He has the complete package and will beat or give a good fight to anyone. Except Wandy and A. Houston. But hey no one is perfect.

I go on record as saying Jardine wins or even TKO’s Thiago homey!!!

      • marvelknight4 says:

Jardine is not the whole package dude. He has decent stand-up,but no sub skills. He has ok ground and pound, but the guys is not that good. He beats Forrest Griffin, what 2, almost 3 years ago and he thinks he’s the man. Yeah he beat Chuck, but it was a lack luster performance. Jardine gets ko’d,wins by decision gets ko’d then wins by decision.
Houston knocked him into oblivion,he beat Liddell by decision, got murdered by Wanderlei and barely beat Vera in a boring lackluster fight.

He has the skills to stop Thiago, but if Thiago takes it to the ground he’ll pound him out or score a sub, Jardine is problably going to try and win on points like he always does. Now that Jardine has been put to sleep on more than one occasion, it’s problably easier to rock him. Jardine can win,but he won’t.

Thiago Silva can lose to Jardine if he comes in thinking he has good stan-up like he did in the Machida fight. Even if Jardine beats Thiago,he still not a top guy. He’s has more chances to prove he’s a top guy than he deserve. Unlike his boy Evans, Jardine has yet to rise to the occasion on big fights.

      • marvelknight4 says:

Jardine had a chance to possibly get a title shot if got passed Wanderlei, but he got destroyed. He had another shot when he faced Rampage(he did not deserve to fight a top 3 guy like Rampage) and lost. He’s had more shots than other guys like Thiago Silva and didn’t deliver. The UFC should bring back Reese Andy and put him against Jardine cuz those guys deserve eachother.

      • OnlyTrue1 says:

        Marvel

You my friend make a strong case. I see your point about not rising to the occasion.

I for 1 am a fan of the slug it out grind it out dog fighters. IMO Jardine is one of those guys, and that Liddel/Jardine fought was far from lackluster!! That was a good fight.

Yeah Houston murdered him gave him cpr Murdered him again gave him mouth to mouth revived him then Murdered him 1 more time. Hey man he took the fight lightly because Houston was an Unknown guy and he payed the price for it give him some slack, He payed his due for that.

Wandy Decapitated him and shaved 10 years off his life but he does that to almost everybody, its like a right of passage or something with that guy.!! Nothing to hold your head down about.

And sure Rampage nearly took his soul had they had another round. But he survived it and had a good showing and may be a better fighter now.

Soo come on man give the dude credit look at who he has fought and never backed out of a fight or claimed some injury. He’s so tough Camp Jackson uses him as a Scout for Evans.

      • carls says:

exactly. i dont know where all this hate for jardine is coming from. When the guy doesnt get cought he wins fights its that simple. not to mention his stock had to go up after the rampage fight. Jardine’s with the right camp right now and will keep improving. Thiago’s going to lose this one

    • timcat says:

Took the words right out of my mouth. Marvel you are a breath of fresh air.

      • OnlyTrue1 says:

        I’m sorry Timcat

That breath of fresh air was me I farted while I was posting kid.

Just a Joke man I’m Kidding!!!!

      • marvelknight4 says:

        Onlytrue1

I gree with the fact that Jardine is a tough guy. I also admire that he will fight anyone and does take his beatings, but against Alexander, he made excuses. He said it was “one of those 1 in a 100 or million deals”. IMO a true fighter accepts when he loses despite who he loses to. I do give him credit for a lot of things, he never gives up in a fight,. Like Fitch(who also is greatly overrated) Jardine is a guy you have to completely put to sleep in order to stop him.
My problem with him is simply the fact that he is not at the level that he thinks he is.

Yes, Jardine is tough and he fights to the end,but just because he can get murdered and take a beating doesn’t mean he’s a great fighter, it just means he can take a beating.

      • marvelknight4 says:

timcat, you are also a breath of fresh air my friend

      • OnlyTrue1 says:

        Tim cat Marvel
I dont know what ya’ll are smelling or sniff’n but it aint fresh air. LOL

Jardine and Fitch are what you would call blue collar workers! Your hard grimmy tough as nail everyday people fighters. Not a ton of flash but they get the job done.!!

IMO those guys are not over rated.

IMO the guys who are over rated are the one’s who have not proven anything but get all the credit and hype.

Your boy T. Silva has beat who in the top 5 lhw??? Or top 8??
But he gets mad love and all the hype???

Forrest was gonna walk straight through that guy, and everybody in here knows that. Jardine is a gate keeper of sorts and keeps the division honest as to who are legit and who are not.

      • marvelknight4 says:

        Onlytrue1

You might be right about Thiago Silva not fighting top guys besides Machida, but that still doesn’t take away the fact that your boy Jardine is not an elite legit contender.

Yes him and Fitch are “grinders”, but that’s not always a good thing. Are they always going to “grind” out a win? The true greats are remebered for great performances. Jardine is not the worst, but how can you make a case for him when he can’t even win 2 in a row,let alone finish a guy. Fitch, that guy is sooo overrated. The only legit guys he beat are Sanchez and Alvez, from there i don’t recall him finishing anyone.

Thiago Silva still needs to fight more elite guys, but Jardine is not elite. I agree that Forrest would have beat Thiago.

When is Jardine going to take advantage of at least one of the soooo many undeserving shots that the UFC gives him. When he does that, then i’ll give him cred. He should start redeeming himself by putting T. Silva away, but i don’t think thats going to happen buddy.

    • Nightmare says:

i kind of agree the dean isnt that good to me his leg kicks are difinitly overrated to me alot of his leg kick to me were just trying to get you to make you move or look at it and it isn’t doing the damage they think it is

  • Tw@ says:

Very simply Thiago Silva knocks Jardines big ass out of the UFC and the top 10 LH rankings

  • Tw@ says:

Im also going to beat whomever to the punch and give 10 LH’s better than Keith Jardine in no particular order . . . . . Rampage, Franklin, Machida, Babalu, Griffin, Shogun, Evans, Cane, Silva’s Thiago and Anderson

    • Justin says:

And if Jardine KOs Silva, how would you like your crow prepared? Roasted, baked, fried?

I personally think that this will be a good fight, and it can go either way, but I actually think that Jardine will come out on top.

      • Tw@ says:

History does show that more times than not knockout punchers leave Jardine on the mat with a oxygen mask on his face

        Keep the crow

      • Justin says:

I agree that history has shown that, but I think this time will be different.

      • Justin says:

Oh, and if I’m wrong, I’ll take mine roasted. ;)

      • Tw@ says:

If im wrong I would like my crow the way Overeem like his horse . . . . . Not quite dead and lightly peppered

      • OnlyTrue1 says:

No wait a minute before you eat that oven roasted crow.

History shows that after a Jardine loss he wins his next fight!! AH-HA!

He just lost to Rampage so its his time to win!!!!

I’m sorry who in the top 5 have T.Silva beat to make you guys give him so much credit????????????????????

If Jardine loses then I too shall eat crow! And the crows down here in GA are the size of eagles!!
But i’ll eat it Deep country Fried with lots of HOT Sauce!!

  • Dirty says:

I’m not a big fan of the Goblin Jardine but arguably nobody has faced the string of top competition that Jardine has faced in the last 2 years. I know he got KO’d by Houston Alexander and Wanderlei but I guarantee he would beat Houston if they fought again. He KO’d ex champ Forrest Griffin, he beat long time champ Chuck Liddell, he beat former top Heavy weight contender Brandon Vera and he just lost a close decision to Rampage and took Rampages hardest shots. Remember the rumors that Jardine was winning till he got dropped last 10 seconds ?

I see Jardine winning this fight and even if he lost, Jardine is in no danger of being cut by the UFC, at least not yet.

Thats my defense on the Goblins behalf…..

  • figs says:

This card is looking sharp so far. I think this fight in particular may give a chance to truely show Jardine’s ground game as he really hasn’t had a chance to (minus a few points in the Vera fight). Should be good though, none the less.

  • jazzkok says:

My boy Thiago is fighting Jardine?!?! Jardine?!?! Dude how many times does your boy “the dean of mean” have to get his ass kicked before they give him lower ranked opponents! It should have been THiago vs Cane. Jardine isn’t a top dude man. He just isn’t. Well i guess this works out well. Thiago will get another awesome ko and get another top contender. Can’t wait to see this one!

  • jazzkok says:

Marvel, dude you said better then anyone could have.

  • carls says:

I personally thought it should have been Shogun and jardine cause that would have been a money fight for the UFC(kinda) or shogun vs T.silva cause shogun could probably knock him off and get some streeet cred, but i think they probably realy wanna promote Rua now that he has a win over chuck so he likely fights loser of machida/evans(-bigchris-). An even bigger money fight. But i guess franklin’s in the mix to(so many awesome matchups) At the end of the day i see Cane beating any of these guys.(minus machida) Hes the perfect fighter to do damage in the LHW div. Cane gets title shot 2010.

  • Nightmare says:

i think thiago silva will take this 1st round tko. get him fast jardine has pretty good conditioning IMO

  • Rick says:

Cool fight. Shogun should get the winner of the Wanderlei vs. Franklin. Might be a little controversial if it’s Wanderlei though, but they’ll both be fallen fighters on the comeback. Then the winner of Shogun vs. Wanderlei/Franklin should fight for the top contender position. Just my opinion.
