Former Strikeforce champion Nick Diaz, like his brother, believes he is grossly underpaid.
So much so, that Diaz is content with remaining “retired” if the UFC isn’t prepared to give him a new contract or a fight with UFC welterweight champion Johny Hendricks right away.
Diaz, in an interview with MMAFighting.com, explained exactly what he wants to return to the Octagon.
“I never considered anything other than to renegotiate my contract or fight Hendricks,” he said. “All I said was, ‘What am I getting paid?’ And (UFC president Dana White) said, ‘Let me check your contract.’ The last text I got from him was what I would be fighting for.
“I didn’t consider fighting for that kind of money. I didn’t say anything back to him. I’m not considering even for a second fighting any of those guys for less than $500,000. There’s no way.”
The fight Diaz was referencing was against Hector Lombard, which White confirmed was offered to him.
As for his future, the “Stockton Bad Boy” stated he is “retired. Completely retired. Unless the UFC wants to renegotiate for something I’m happy with or I’m fighting for the world title.”
