“Rampage” To Get Title Shot in August or September
Former light heavyweight title-holder Quinton “Rampage” Jackson will have an opportunity to reclaim the title in August or September, according to Fighters Only.
According to the report, which cites an industry source, Rampage will take on the winner of UFC 98’s headliner between current champion Rashad Evans and Lyoto Machida at UFC 102 on August 29th in Portland, Oregon or at UFC 103 on September 26th in the UK.
Jackson was originally offered a fight against Evans that would have headlined UFC 98, but declined to the quick turnaround required following his March victory over Keith Jardine at UFC 96. Evans will instead take on Machida in the May 23rd main event and Jackson will then meet the winner later this year.

cant wait for machida vs rampage (i’m guessing machida will win) i bet if machida wins against rashad hewill win this one too UD not losing one round. i think forrest could beat rampage and rashad. he already beat rampage and he was dominating the first 2 rounds with rashad. in the machida vs evans fight alot of people are saying machida will win by tko round 4 when he wears him out(i think it’ll be UD) i dont think machida is that good at finishing fights yet. he just knocked out thiago silva doesn’t mean he’ll finish all fights now.
anyway… i Hope machida becomes champ and defends it.
Me too
rampage vs Machida is more interesting to me
than rampage vs evans
machida..that guy, what a technician eh?
We want a grudge match between Evans and Rampage.
I can’t wait for Rampage to fight for the title again, personaly i want to see him kick Evan’s a$$. I know that Machida is a real threat to Evans. This is a tough one cuz i like Machida, but i want to see Evans vs Rampage more than Rampage vs Machida.
Whoever Rampage fights, he for sure has tha ability to finish Machida and Evans. Evans-Rampage would be a bigger draw IMO and would be more exciting given the fact that Rampage just beat Jardine(Evans’s Buddy). and of course who doesn’t want to see more “black on blackk crimes” Machida would also make for an exciting fight with Rampage because he can threaten Rampage from all aspects of MMA. I hate Evans because he is overrated and talks crap then tries to act professional, but i want him to win so Rampage can put him to sleep.
AGREED ^
Yes I aggree. I think Evans-Jackson is a much more appealing fight. Machida is the real deal though, but I hope some way some how, Evans pulls it out and I think he will. The thing about Evans is that you can never count him out. People counted him out against on TUF and he won every match. People counted him out against Tito and he rallied back to a draw and almost Ground N Pounded Tito out at the end. He was the counted several other times against Bisping, LiddelL (ecspecially Liddell), and again with Forrest. The guy just keeps finding ways to win and he keeps evolving and getting better. I think he will do the same thing against Machida.
This will set up a big match between Evans and Jackson! This is the fight everyone wants to see. Machida can then face either Shogun or the winner of Forrest Griffin-Thiago Silva.
“IT’S TIME FOR SOME BLACK ON BLACK CRIME!”
Dude i want to see rampage vs evans so rampage can kick rashad’s ass for talking all that uncalled for $hit. I think machida is a tougher opponent for rampage and i think machida is going to skool evans but i want evans to win. I hope rampage can get his title back he’s one of my favorite fighters.
It’s unanimous.Everybody wants to see Rampage kick Evans ass. That fight will happen eventually.Unfortunately,it probably won’t happen any time soon cause I can’t see Evans beating Machida. And Evans would have lost that fight with Tito if it weren’t for point deductions.
But Evans did not lose.
Evans may have even won that fight “Had Tito not cheated numerous times by grapping the fence to prevent those take downs!!”
Even Tito admitted to Cheating.
OnlyTrue1,
“may have even won that fight”-although that may be true it is just speculation. My point was that because it was a draw Tito would have got the decision without the point deductions.
Jaymz
Without the point deduction Tito would have won the fight?
To me that is just speculation as well.
The problem is Tito did cheat and kept graping the fence, thats why the point deduction happen right. It was his doing and his fault.
We cant say without the deduction he would have won the fight, because him grapping the fence in the 1st and 2nd round was part of the fight.
But we would be here all day talking about the “if’s and but” scenero’s.
Rampage must surly hope he gets Evans.
aww everyone wants rampage to win… i hope machida wins all not only undefeated. he never lost a round
He lost the first round against Sokoudjou, and I think Tito won that 3rd round
Machida and Evans are both going to lose at some point, if not Rampage then someone else, it’ll be very very difficult for any guy at 205 to stay undefeated with all the dangerous fighters out there.
But of course i hope that Rampage beats both guys, although that’s easier said than done, but if anyone can beat both Machida and Evans it’s Rampage.
He’s got a tough fight in front of him no matter who it is.
i would love to see rampage ktfo evans, I dislike evans for reasons mentioned by other people above, however I think a better fight would be rampage-machida. machida is dangerous in all aspects of mma. plus evans could ko rampage, if that were to happen he would never shut up. sure evans beat forrest, only after forrest broke his hand. evans still won and became champ, but I think/hope he loses to machida. screw a decision and want to see machida ktfo evans. I also would rather see shogun vs evans. I think shogun or the winner of forrest-thiago silva gets the loser of evans-machida. 205 is stacked with dangerous guys. that is possibly the best division in all of mma
yo dude is “ktfo” kik the fuk out of? also, i don’t think evans can ko rampage. Rampage can hella take a beating and not get ko’d . It took silva and shogun a lot of energy and strikes to ko him. Rampage is one tough son of a female dog. Plus, rashad doesn’t have the skill or technique to get in a “power” shot on rampage. I think if we did see some “black on black crime”(fingers crossed), that rampage would out class him and be too well of a rounded striker for rashad to get in any shots. Rashad would only have his wrestling, and i don’t even think he could beat rampage there.
If machida wins, i just hope he ko’s rashad. I just want someone to make my dream come true and beat the $hit out of “sugar”.
Ha Ha Ha-it’s ‘knocked the fuk out’
Everyone who complained about Silva-Leites has to be cheering for Rashad because if Machida wins guys utilizing the “defensive counterstrike” technique will have 2 of the 5 titles and likely provide many more boring main events in the future.
Rashad is one of the most underrated fighters I can remember seeing. He demolished Chuck, out pointed Bisping and then took out Forrest. The guy is undefeated and getting better all of the time. You can say that he lost the first two rounds against Forrest, but winning rounds doesn’t do you any good when you get TKO’d. Not to mention the fact that Rashad never seems to do anything in the first round anyway. Here’s to hoping he is quick enough to KTFO Machida and set up Evans-Jackson grudge match where Rashad can break Rampage’s leg when he refuses to check leg kicks.
I totally agree with you!! Except The part where you want rashad to break rampage’s leg….
I can not understand why some here complain about Anderson silva’s last two fights but cheer and want to see Lyoto get the belt for doing exactly what A. Silva just did. Yes the guy is talented and undefeated but he is not going to be an exciting fighter in 8 of 10 of his fights because of his style.
I want to see Rampage get his title back, He IMO is one of the most exciting fighters in the ufc and always wins fight of the night or KO of the night and is the first person to unify the Pride and UFC belts and defeat Chuck liddel, Dan henderson, and W. Silva!!!! Gotta love that kind of figher!!
onlytrue1
dude i’m glad you said that. my boy rampage IS the only dude to kick hendo’s, lidells, and silva ass. He’s gonna put “sugar” on that list as well.
What’z up Jazzok
I like Rashad and his personality.
Every fighter is different not every guy or fighter’s gonna act the same, not all guys are humble or funny and witty like Rampage or Forrest.
To Me, He is just another matt hughes and almost everybody liked him at some point but the guy was just as arrogant and childish acting!!
I’ll never forget how he got mad at Gsp for going in the ring on him and then was saying later in interviews “ohh Gsp was just copying me he couldn’t be original and think of something different to say other than I wasn’t impressed by your performance!” And now he always take shots at gsp at every chance he gets.
I’ve like Rashad since Tuff and picked him to win!! Dude is a beast and should be given as much respect as Lyoto even if you dont like him love the dude’s skill..
Buttt yeah Jazzok I hope Rampage add’s Sugar and Dragon to that list!
Honestly,
I love all three guys.
IMO I just dont see Lyoto beating Evans that easy either. I almost see a stail mate (sorry bout spelling) I think they are pretty even and give each other tons of problems.
Evans faster, strong, good striker/wrestler! Ko Power
Machida Strong good striker “when he choses” good Bjj! Ko Power
I can see Evans geting caught in a submission in this One.
Or Lyoto being G-n-P in guard!
Too tough to call but I cant wait for this one!!
I think you guys are doing exactly what Bisping, Liddell and Griffin did and thats look past Rashad. Id be the first to agree with anyone that said at times he can be borderline unprofessional but the dude can bang. Im looking forward to the Machida and Evans fight, Rashad likes being on the back foot just like Lyoto and I wonder if he will get suckered into chasing down Machida and ultimately being picked apart. In my opinion however Evans beats Rampage
Evans can’t beat Rampage, Rampage is too smart and has great defense, his only weakness is leg kicks. Evans is a good wrestler, but let’s say that Rampage ends up taking Evans down, that’s a completely different story. Evans has no sub skills off his back and we havn’t seen anything that would make us believe that he can stop Rampage’s brutal ground and pound. Yes Evans can problably catch Rampage, but Rampage is not Liddell or Griffin, Rampage can take punishment more than those guys and if Evans tries to exchange, we all know how great Rampage is with his counter punches and his hand speed that also carries ko’ power in both hands. Rashad has great speed, but he has to load up his punches to give them power, Rampage doesn’t. Rashad’s only hope is to control Rampage on the ground, other than that it’s most likely lights out for Sugar. And of course, we’ll see if he can handle the professional piss drinker Machida.Lol
In my opinion how you described that the Rashad and Rampage fight would go would suit Evans better. Rampage has never been a ground fighter marvelknight but I guess you must know things we dont to back up your claims
how can you say that forrest cant take punishment, that guy is a junk yard dog and it takes alot to put him out, hes got a huge heart…
id say both forrest and jackson are of equal toughness… rampage can get ko’d just as easily… one knee to the head and hes out…
we also dont know if evans has any sub skills off his back, or how developed his jiujitsu is because he hasnt really had to use it. that doesnt mean he has none… the way you say it, it sounds like your talking about huston alexander…
i think it would be a good 2 round fight… with the winner being who ever had the lucky shot… i dont see it going to the ground
jazzkok ktfo means knock the f… out. who cares if machida is a “boring” fighter, what is with people who want an exciting fighter? machida isnt boring he is tactical and a smart fighter. he uses the techniques necessary to win, he isnt going to put himself in danger just to entertain fans. are we back in the roman empire days when people watched gladiators and were bloodthirsty? evans needs to come out once the bell rings to start the fight in a frenzy. if evans starts slow, machida will win by decision by picking his shots, or by ko due to evans trying to score points in rounds 3-5. I think this fight will generate boos because both guys like to feel their opponents out in the first round and both favor counterpunching. in order for a counterpuncher to have an “exciting” fight they need to be matched against a aggressive striker, not another counterpuncher.
Bigchris
Question for you, how did you feel about A. silva last fight.
IMO that is the way Lyoto fights. A. silva fought a somewhat in his description of the fight a tactical smart fight and used techniques necessary to win and not get injured or caught in a submission.
You are right though people are looking for quick ko’s or more exciting fights I should say. And Evans/Machida will bring in alot of boo’s! Thats why Dana and the ufc wanted Evans/Rampage instead anyway.
If Evans wins against Machida I don’t see him fighting 3 months after his title defense, He was offered to fight Rampage yet instead him and Jackson decided to send Jardine in to face Rampage, Evans doesn’t like to fight every 3months…
But all that doesn’t matter because Lyoto is going to win the belt and defend it against the #1 contender Rampage… I’m excited for these next to title defenses regaurdless…. I think that the Rampage fight will be more difficult for Lyoto than Evans will be… Ofcourse Evans can win a fight at any moment but I’m pulling for Machida.. If Evans does win then Rampage is going to whoop dat assss
yeah dude if machida wins it’s going to be hard for any lhw contender to take the belt assuming machida stays sharp. I think even though it would be difficult, that rampage is good enough to be that one guy to beat machida. Either way, wether it’s machida or rampage, i want someone to put “sugar” to sleep.
Fr!! What up!
You hit it on the head, You and I agree on this one cause Rashad and camp wanted no part of Rampage to begin with.
Instead Send in their scott and find weakness in Rampage.
When the fight is over now he wanna hop bad and fight Rampage. They were praying Rampage could take that fight!
But they got what they desereved and feared Lyoto!!
Yep, I Think Machida would win too
I would like to see Rampage Vs Machida
why all the hate for rashad? i met him in houston when he was doin signings the day b4 the matt serra upset. i asked him what he thought of rampage coming straight over and getting a title fight after a gimme fight. the guy was incredibly humble and said “man, i can only fight who they put in there and take it one fight at a time” really nice guy. i also met m.hughes what a d*ck by the way. but rashad was real down to earth. i dont like his antics in the ring but no one can deny the fact that he improves every single fight. he looks better and better each time he enters the octagon. mad props to rashad. good luck against the dragon bro. its gonna bea war.
I’m not sure if it is actual “hate” just well alot of people dislike him for whatever reason that they have…. He does improve with every fight and thats kinda cool and crazy at the same time ya know he is the champ and he continues to improve which is awesome… I’m definately more of a fan of Lyoto’s than Rashad and I definately like Rampage more than Rashad…. As far as Rampage getting a shot at Liddell after beating Eastman, well imo Rampage was set up to lose that fight, to allow Chuck to get “that loss back” well Quinton had other plans…. Matt Hughes just kinda looks like he is a ____ ya know…
Fr
Again you be on it man!!
At the time Liddell looked invincible!!! I even beat Liddell would tko Jackson in the 2nd because of the way he looked in the Eastman fight.
But as you stated he was set up to lose.. Rampage said he wasn’t ready for chuck yet. But Dana and crew wanted that fight when they signed Rampage. At the time MMA was finally exploding and Chuck was the poster boy.
What a turn around 1 fight makes ehh!!!
Rashad vs. Rampage is the more appealing fight. Machida is the real deal I must admit, but his only fight I enjoyed was agaist Silva. Watching him is like watching Clay Guida… frustrating… I like Rampage but he wont beat Rashad. I personally think that Rashad is the new posterboy for the LHW Div. He wont be stopped by The Dragon or Rampage.
first of all, hands down Rampage vs evans is definitly the better fight! An undefeted fighter who has somewhat proven himself,to finally be matched with (I feel)someone who will show him what a true hard hitter feels like.although forrest (must have had a bad day)lost,i still do not belive rashad should be in their catagory!!!!Oh yeah, and the silva fight,i guess we have to put him up against only americans to get a true silva fight!DISAPPOINTMENT!!
I don’t even see Rashad hitting Machida with any punches that count in their fight …hes too elusive , i predict a unanimous decision…Then i actually see Machida going on and doing the same to rampage….
Your not goign to see Machida get pounded by Rashads retarded looping bombs. Best chance for him is to go withground and pound.. only problem is any way you slice it you basically play into The Dragons game.
He’ll rape both these fools and become the next dominant allbeit boring as hell champ like his middleweight Brazilian brother Anderson. Don;t get me wrong I LOVE machida and have been saynghe’ll be the next champ at LHW since almost his second fight. Yah you know back when the majority of this site liked to knock on his fighting style.
Ah well.. better late to jump on The Dragons train then never eh?
