Heavyweights Bobby Lashley (2-0) and Bob Sapp (10-3-1) will square off on June 27th at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Coliseum in Biloxi, Mississipi, according to MMA Fanhouse.

The bout will headline the first-ever MMA event for Prize Fight, a boxing promotion company that has promoted a number of high-profile boxing matches since 2002 and will now venture into promoting MMA events.

According to the Fanhouse report, a number of “familiar” MMA names will be appearing on the June 27th card alongside Lashley and Sapp. Additionally, Lashley is reportedly in negotiations to fight in May for Maximum Fighting Championships and will not return to wrestling with TNA after appearing on the company’s “Lockdown” pay-per-view on Sunday.

In just his second professional fight, Lashley defeated late-replacement Jason Guida via unanimous decision in March.

Sapp has won 5 of his last 6 fights, most-recently defeating Akihito Tanaka via first-round TKO at FieLDS Dynamite!! in December.

    Bob Sapp….the human punching bag…YAY!

Mark my words…This will be the fight of the year!

NO…DON”T MARK MY WORDS…Seriously don’t, this will suck hard.

  • Tw@ says:

This fight I think will be very familiar to a fight scene in the Van Damme movie Replicant

  • jakeem says:

For some reason I think this will be a REALLY sloppy fight. No skills will be shown at all. Lashely will probably when via UD.

  • marvelknight4 says:

I hope Lashley can win and make his way into the UFC.

  • ryanmoney says:

I know this is not Bobbys fault, but isnt there better competition for him to fight? Seeing as he has just signed full time for TNA Wrestling, I dont think he will ever be a “Big Time” MMA fighter.

    Hope he does well though.

    • Justin says:

“and will not return to wrestling with TNA after appearing on the company’s “Lockdown” pay-per-view on Sunday.”

That’s contradictory to your claim that he signed full time for TNA.

      • eldiablo says:

According to the UK Sun, Bobby Lashley will both wrestle in TNA wrestling and train MMA. He signed a contract (although the length and cash are yet to be disclosed) with TNA. The owner of TNA, Jeff Jarrett, went on record to state he supports Lashley in his commitment to MMA and is not concerned that Lashley will go half-assed in any matches to prevent injuries. Unlike Dana White and Vince McMahon, Jarrett allows his talent to figth/wrestle elswhere.

Looks to me like Lashley overvalued himself in the world of MMA and he was quick to discover he’s no Brock Lesnar.

      • Justin says:

There may be some truth to the story, and there may be some truth to your comment about Lashley having overvalued himself initially in the world of MMA. However, I don’t trust the Sun, well I don’t trust any news source completely, but I trust the Sun much less. If Lashley has in fact signed with TNA, he can scrap any idea of joining the UFC, which I’m not convinced yet that he would have done anyways.

      • fr702 says:

please don’t quote the SUN they are known to um be incorrect ya thats the term, cheers o and if you want to quote them well ya thats cool too..

      • SAMSON says:

The Sun has confirmed that he is full time after a discussion with Dixie Carter. Lashley will never make the UFC anyway. His best option would be TUF

      • SAMSON says:

Besides, I have seen this website quote the Sun in one of it’s headlines before so don’t try and make out people who quote it are idiots, please

      • Justin says:

Samson, no one is trying to make anyone out to be an idiot. I’m just saying I don’t trust the Sun. Yes, this site has quoted articles from the Sun before, but we were hesitant to run them because they aren’t reliable.

  • Al Van Dal says:

I hope Lashley does fight for the MFC and that some more big names follow him. The UFC seems to only be interested in Montreal & Toronto as the Canadian cities they hold cards in , it would be great to get some big names fighting in Edmonton. The fan support for MMA is huge here and the MFC is a class act with some great up and coming talent.

    • Justin says:

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think that MMA is currently still only regulated in Quebec. I guess that Dana is hoping that Ontario will regulate the sport soon so he can do the fight in Toronto he wants.

      • eldiablo says:

MMA is regulated/legal in Alberta as well, which is why Al brought up MFC.

      • Justin says:

I thought that it wasn’t regulated in Alberta, hence the discussion not long ago about Edmonton regulating it before the province did. I would need to spend some time on Google to try to get to the bottom of that, and I just don’t feel like it.

      • Figs says:

MMA is sanctioned in Quebec, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Alberta. Bodog used to do fights in British Columbia, but it has recently banned the sport to be put under review. Calgary’s Sattledome would be the most ideal place to go if the UFC did head out to Western Canada.

  • zac says:

this may not be too bad an idea…lashley couldnt even finish jason guida…i think he needs a few more lower tiered opponents that he must dominate before he even thinks about jumping into the UFC. this guy is still wayyy to raw for real MMA competition.

  • Jaymz says:

This fight should actually be entertaining.I could see Sapp knocking Lashley out if he doesn’t gas.And if Sapp does win, should the UFC make him an offer?

  • The rob says:

I would think mma is regulated in Alberta as there’s many mma productions that presently come thru Edmonton and Calgary… Just no ufc. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that Ontario and BC continue to shun the sport… I’d love to see a ufc event at rexall in edmonton…

    • Justin says:

Just because promotions hold events there, does not mean that it is regulated. There is a difference between not regulated and banned. The state of New York has a ban on MMA, the state of Alabama does not have a ban, but the sport is unregulated. I think when it comes to places in North America the UFC only goes places where the sport is regulated. Obviously when they go over sees they don’t seem to care, as there is no regulation of MMA in the UK, that I am aware of (which is why they don’t releases salary numbers for UK events).

  • fr702 says:

I thought I read somewhere that Tom Atencio might be fighting on the undercard….
