UFC president Dana White could call Ronda Rousey and ask the female bantamweight champion to step in and fill the main event slot vacated for UFC 173 by Chris Weidman.
White, though, told Newsday that he’s “not gonna do that to her.”
Rousey is currently filming scenes for her role in “Entourage” and has targeted a return to action later in the summer. Weidman suffered a knee injury and was forced to reschedule his middleweight title defense with Lyoto Machida.
“Ronda’s not working,” White said. “She’s out doing her movie. She would, if I called her.”
White also cleared up why Vitor Belfort – Weidman’s original opponent – will not receive his shot at the title with the bout being postponed. Belfort has promised to work his way off TRT after the exemption was banned by the UFC and the Nevada Athletic Commission.
“Machida’s got the title shot,” White said. “No way Machida would give that up.”
Belfort is working to gain his fight license through the commission. He previously was suspended by the state after failing a post-fight drug test.
