Sobral Off June 6th Strikeforce Card
Renato Babalu Sobral
Renato “Babalu” Sobral’s first defense of his Strikeforce title has been postponed. Sobral had initially been rumored to be facing off against Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante in May, but then was later announced for June 6th. Since that time it has been confirmed that Sobral’s child is expected to be born on May 24th, forcing the fighter to withdraw from the event. This according to the fighter’s manager who spoke with MMAWeekly yesterday.
Cavalcante is still expected to take part in the June 6th event, facing off against an as yet unnamed opponent. With a win, Cavalcante is expected to get his shot against Sobral in August.

Like we never saw this coming, Babalu is much improved and a dude I personally would like to see back in the UFC 205lbs division, I still expect him to fight Fedor at Affliction:The End/Affliction:The Final Chapter or whatever they are going to name the last card for the WAMMA title or as I call it the Heavyweight Champion of California
I agree with you that I’d like to see him back in that mix, but after Sobral’s dumb comments at UFC 74, I don’t think he’ll EVER be back in the UFC. He clearly put David Heaths life in serious danger and gloated about it. “Need to teach a mother f#cker respect” is a one way ticket out of the biggest event in MMA.
Id agree with your comments Figs, was a very dangerous and silly thing to do holding David Heath in that choke for aslong as he did. However Dana has always said he wants the best fighters in the world in the UFC and over the past 2 years Babalu has to be a candidate for most improved and looked good in his fight with Sokodjou. Hopefully by the end of 2009 we get to see Babalu and Tito settle whatever is going on in the ring or hopefully the octagon

It’s ok for him to drop out. The fight wasn’t that big of a deal anyways. He should be fighting someone with a bigger name. Strikforce should match him up with Tito Ortiz being that Tito is no longer with the UFC any more. This would be a much more appealing match up.
