Nick Diaz Passes Strikefoce Drug Test

Posted by Kris Karkoski on Apr 20, 2009 at 12:40 pm ET10 Comments

Nick DiazNick Diaz, who defeated Frank Shamrock via second-round TKO at Strikeforce’s April 11th event in San Jose, California, has passed the drug test administered by the California State Athletic Commission following the contest.

In the days leading up to the bout, Diaz, who previously tested positive for marijuana in PRIDE following a win over Takanori Gomi, said he could beat the drug test using cleansers.

However, CSAC Assistant Executive Director Bill Douglas tell’s MMA Weekly that Diaz passed the test, which tests for recreational drugs such as marijuana as well as performance enhancers, without cleansing agents.

“Diaz was fine,” said Douglas. “The test went through a full battery which checks for cleansing agents.”

Diaz has won five of his last six bouts since his early-2007 victory against Gomi was ruled a no contest following the positive test.

good to see he did it the old fashioned way.

  • c-ro says:

huh, no marijuana this time? haha too bad, i personally will never understand why he lost that fight for failing for weed. if anything, weed makes you a worse fighter with worse cardio lol why would you lose because u smoked weed LOL. epic fail.

  • Dietrich says:

I think if he did smoke weed it was when he signed the contract,$39k seems a little light when compared to what Shamrock got. I hope Strikeforce makes it up to him in the next fight.

He has already stated that he got paid more than the 39k that the CSAC realeased as the payment that he recieved, he didn’t get specific but he put it out that he got paid more….

  • Dietrich says:

Thanks Fr702 for the info. That number was awful.

When is the UFC going to bring Nick Diaz back? He’s on a roll and is currently one of the most exciting fighters in the game right now. His confidence is at an all time high right now as well. It would be great to see him back in the UFC competing at 170 (he’s is one of the biggest names currently competing at 170 in all of MMA). Check out the potential match ups that I would love to see him in upon his return back to the UFC.

    Diaz-Koscheck

    Diaz-Parysian 2

    Diaz-Kampmann

    Diaz-Fitch

    Diaz-Condit

Who would you like to see him face?

I know this is nit-picky, but Diaz hasn’t fought at 170 since leaving the UFC in 2006 I believe. But if he were to come back to the UFC he would most likely end up at 170.

A lot would have to fall into place for Diaz to end up back in the UFC. 1. He has to complete his contract with Strikeforce. 2. He has to want to come back. 3. The UFC has to want him to come back. Both of the last two are big ifs IMO.

I personally don’t have many match-ups I’d like to see him in, unless they are guaranteed to end with his face smashed… but that’s just me.

Nick is one bad ass fighter and a helluva human being. The issue of the drug test is not whether he passed it… it was his choice and he passed, not an issue.

The issue was the fact that he stood up and spoke the truth about marijuana. That fact and the courage he demonstrated by speaking the truth put him out front and showed exactly what Nick Diaz is made of.

No one will ever be able to say that Nick was a coward… ever.
