UFC 171 rolls on to the lightweight division as Myles Jury took on Diego Sanchez. The fight saw Jury manage to tame the always dangerous Sanchez en route to a unanimous decision victory.
Jury Tames Sanchez
Those expecting more Diego Sanchez fireworks were sadly disappointed when he took on Myles Jury. The dangerous fighter was largely defused over the course of tonight’s three round fight. Jury used tight accurate strikes in the standup to pick Diego apart before taking him down when the former “Nightmare” started to get revved up.
Jury has now won five straight fights in the Octagon and stands poised for a big year in 2014. While Sanchez has lost two straight, and three of his last four, the usually exciting fighter is in no danger of release.
It was over when:
The biggest key to fighting a guy like Sanchez is to not get drawn into the brawl. Jury’s ability to maintain composure kept Sanchez from wreaking havoc in the Octagon.
For Jury, it is time to treat this kid like the prospect he is. A fight with Rustam Khabilov would be a solid test for both men and help unclutter the muddled lightweight ladder. For Sanchez, the UFC would be wise to pair him up with another berserker-type fighter that provides the excitement people want to see from him.
