Mauricio "Shogun" Rua

Mauricio "Shogun" Rua

Anderson Silva defeated Thales Leites via unanimous decision in the UFC 97 main event on Saturday in Montreal, Canada in a fight that will be remembered as one of the most uneventful in UFC history. Silva was so disappointing……..period.

    • Eye-Rhyme says:

THALES KEPT RUNNING FROM HIM…HOW IS IT SILVA’S FAULT???? SILVA WAS TOYING WITH THALES…HE LOOKED UNTOUCHABLE!!!!

      • dbiz says:

Silva’s JOB is to do something, even if his opponent drops to his back every time his attempts to shoot are snuffed. His JOB is to fight and to not dance like a spastic monkey. Move in and punch instead of waving your hands like some street corner voodoo idiot.

        Worst.
        Main.
        Event.
        EVER.

Silva is not a headliner. Period. This is two fights in a row he’s looked like crap. If he is ever the sole headliner on a card again I’ll skip it. He is approaching 25% crappy fights in the UFC. This was an undercard-caliber fight and he needs to be scheduled accordingly.

      • bruceleroy says:

        To Dbiz…….

that fight may have sucked, BUT it is NOT Anderson’s job to go get the other guy. He’s the champ, and if anyone else wants to take his belt from him, that man’s REQUIRED to go to Anderson and try his best to take it from him. Anderson aint gotta do jack, but stand and continue to be champion till his opponent forces him to defend his belt. Didnt you know? If you’re the champ and I want to be the champ, there’s simply no other way for me to become the champ unless i come take your belt away from you. If i dont, you’re still the champ, one way or the other. Otherwise,if i become the champ in anyother way besides getting the belt straight from you,one way or another- I am officially deemed a “paper champion”. (Paper champion is someone that “bought” the title of champion-they never won it outright)
        Duuuuuuuuuuh!!!!!

      • ryanmoney says:

bruceleroy, What the hell are you on about? Anderson is the Champ so he doesnt have to do “jack”? So he doesnt have to fight in his own bout?

If anything, the Champ should push the action more than the Challenger in order to make a statement and such.

Silva was a bore. Thales was no threat what so ever in that fight and Anderson could see that at about 4 mins into the fight. Silva could have pushed the action more.

      • Steve says:

It’s Silva’s job to win. He won. He was easily the superior fighter who was just sticking to his game plan. When Leites went to the ground, Silva threw in some kicks and at times looked like he was thinking of going down but then the kicks from the ground started to come. Why would Silva risk a RANDOM knock out which could possibly happen from a silly move like that? Sure it’s boring but I don’t blame him one bit. No matter who is fighting, anyone can win the fight with one punch/kick/whatever. Silva is smarter than to take his chances like that. He knows what he is doing.

      • ufcmanz says:

dbiz… you cann’t have a Championship fight with 1 fighter because leites and cote were just surviving not fighting…..ya silva could of did a little more but when all a guy does is lay on his back every time you touch him or runs around a cage.. there really isn’t much you can do.

    • coolcat says:

Anderson Silva WANTED to put on a show but it was Thales’ fault he could not do that. Silva wanted to put own a show for the fans but if it involved getting hurt by Thales’ ground game and potentially lossing the fight and his title, he wasn’t going to put own a show. So don’t blame Silva for defending his title put the blame on the challenger who wasnt ready to fight the pound per pound best.

  • Jdubb says:

Um …. If you are the champ act like it.. NOCK that fool out.. and IM sorry Anderson you looked like crap the first two rounds… Hats off to Leites for showing up and playing sparing partner for five rounds..

JOE SILVA looks like you loooosing your touch…

  • Eye-Rhyme says:

    THE CANADIAN FANS ARE WAAAAACK!!
THEY DON’T APPRECIATE ANYBODY WHO IS NOT GSP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SILVA COULDN’T PUT ON A SHOW IF THALES WAS UNWILLING TO FIGHT!!!!!

    • wellfire says:

thats a little inaccurate, we enjoy ass kickings and entertainment, not title fights that people get up half way thru and go home to watch wrestling because its more action than what they paid $650 dollars to see live. And GSP fuckin rocks too by the way…..Hard

    • dbiz says:

If THAT Silva shows up against GSP, he ain’t undefeated in the UFC anymore. That was sad.

  • chrisl says:

I love everyone bashing Silva for tonight. What do you expect? You give someone whose a ground ace w/ little to no striking a title shot against someone whose a striking expert with a solid ground game and what really do you expect? Leites tried to fight his fight and Silva did fight his, can’t fault Silva for not risking it all trying to go to the ground w/ a ground ace. It will probably be the same fight when Silva and Maia square off because he doesn’t have the striking to hang w/ silva either, and Silva won’t be dumb and get caught. Hate on him all you want but Silva fought a smart fight rather than the best fight and sadly that’s how it happens sometimes just ask his buddy Lyoto.

As for the rest, I made quite a bit off Shogun. Lets face it everyone wanted Chuck to win but after Shogun looked so horrid against Coleman you knew he’d be fighting for his job. I also believe that the UFC showed it’s depth at 205 when the two best 205′s from the WEC both lose to guys who are solid but not top contenders.

I still want Kongo’s DNA tested because he’s not human… man looks like he was crafted by Cyberdyne. Obviously hit like it too.

Overall though it was not a bad card, not the best but the worst fight cards of the UFC are still better than 90% of what is out there. Joe Silva isn’t losing his touch if Leites is the #1 contender over the other BJJ wiz Maia because either way it’d been a similar fight. Hate it for Chuck and if he retires I will be sad but also glad to see he can walk away w/o turning into a shamrock.

  • dbiz says:

Krzysztof Soszynski def. Brian Stann via submission (kimura) — Round 1, 3:53

I called Kzrystof by arm lock in the third minute of the second round. Rocked this card too in the UFC fantasy league. 2 fights called 100% perfect. Cheick Kongo def. Antoni Hardonk via TKO (strikes) — Round 2, 2:29 and Mark Bocek def. David Bielkheden via submission (rear naked choke) — Round 1, 4:57

    Point Score: 232
Your Ranking: 93 out of 21905

    I rule, I rock, etc.

  • Chuck Fan NYY says:

Im glad to see my homie chuck in one last fight, He IS the greatest fighter in ufc history PERIOD… Overall in was an alright ppv… GSP vs SILVA should turn out better than this fight… Well anyways thank you chuck for all you did you will be missed…

  • cmoores says:

Fights were all pretty good till the championship fight! Congo was to big for his guy though. Silva being the champ should of handled his self different, Its almost like he’s telling Dana to let me fight Roy Jones. His ground game is good enough to were he could of went that way.He just boxed him with a leg kick here and there. He fights like that again he’s in trouble. I guess he was carefull and did get the record though.

  • Tw@ says:

Just got finished watching the event, start work in 2 hours and if I was to describe my mood at the minute it would be dissapointed, mainly because of a 12 hour shift but also because of the quality of the event. I wonder how much Thales Leites is going to charge Anderson Silva for laying on his back with his legs open for 25 minutes, a fight with Maia would follow the same design, the only fights id be interested in seeing Silva in next is a toss up either GSP, Gegard Mousasi or Cung Le. Chuck Liddells career is slowly turning into a highlight reel of him being KTFO! Welcome back Mr Shogun. The Wiman and Stout episode has to be fight of the night and Wiman should get a extra 10 sheets bonus to buy either a razor or a knife to kill and or remove that rodent living on his face. That will be all for now

  • Buddha says:

Like it or not, Silva is the best pound for pound fighter in the WORLD for a for a reason. He is a tacticle fighter and wont play his opponents game. Thales needs to roll around and the ground somewhere else…

  • Bo says:

That fight absolutely sucked. I think they’ve had more damage on Dancing with the Stars this year.

Anderson Silva is way overrated. You’ve got to stand AND swing first or he just stands or runs. He’s completely lost. He’s just a one trick pony.

UFC lost some fans selling Silva tonight. Seriously, who would want to pay to see this guy “fight”? I WANT MY MONEY BACK!!!

  • Ram4750 says:

The fans have a right to be pissed because they payed a hell of alot of money to go to the event. Those tickets cost hundreds of dollars, up to $1000 for the front row. I mean Anderson took a very conservative gameplan, if this was the first time i’d say no big deal but this is the second fight in a row. If he headlines another card I’ll still buy it, but because i’ve been buying them since UFC 57. They were talking about Silva not beeing a great draw. This is not going to help in any way. Fedor,in my opinion, is once again the pound for pound best. I understand being cautious cause Leites is tough, but what one must remember is that this is an entertainment business. Anyways Leites never should have gotten this title shot. Okami is loooooooooooooooong overdue for a go at the belt.

That being said with the real main event,I was glad to see Shogun come and get the win. I kept on saying he’s not past his prime or anything. He went out there and looked very solid against Chuck. I know some would say that Chuck is but a shell of his former self but he has lost 4 of his last 5 and they’ve all been against top level competition. And I am very adamant about the point that Royce Gracie was good but I dont think he would be so fantastic over the fighters of nowadays. The reason I say that is because Idont think Chuck has lost a step he just hasn’t evolved. And in a sport where every performance is so critical, You have to stay with the crowd. I know everyone goes around saying how Randy Couture is the most beloved but Chuck is tops over everyone. He is the Hulk Hogan to Dana Whites Vince McMahon. Chuck was and is the most popular fighter in the sport. They only say that about Randy because he is still fighting in his mid 40′s. But Randy started later than Chuck. And they have much different ways of approaching a fight. Chuck goes for the knockout and tries to make the fight ultra-exciting. While Couture though he is great and mad respect for him, it is not unorthodox for him to carve out a decision.

Great show tonight until the main event. Worst title fight in UFC history, and I hope Leites enjoyed the exposure cause he ain’t getting a title shot for a very long time if ever.

  • Arnold Darksner says:

Dana says Chuck is retired at the press conference, interesting to hear it from him and not Lidells camp

  • Ram4750 says:

Oh yeah being conservative with your fighting style is okay but thats the real reason Matt Lindland is not in the UFC anymore. Not because they were “protecting” Franklin. But because that would probably not have made for the best of fights.

  • bruceleroy says:

somebody please tell Dana to match GSP and Anderson so that everyone can see once and for all who is the greatest fighter of all!!!!!!!!!

    • Justin says:

That kinda have to wait until at least after July, and say Alves beats GSP… that whole idea goes right out the window doesn’t it?

      • raffy says:

That’s not going to happen man.

      • Justin says:

I don’t think so either, but I’m tired of people calling for GSP to fight Silva before he’s fought his next opponent. If/when he beats Alves, then start.

      • Figs says:

I love GSP, but Alves is a SERIOUS threat. I don’t thnk there’s a need to talk about a fight that may not happen. Who knows if either guy will still be the champ at the end of ’09? Crazier things have happened in MMA.

  • darian says:

look silva waits to get figure out his opponent before he attacks so i agree he should have attacked more but he doesnt want to be caught and its not his style, i fucking hate laties now because he didnt even try to trade strikes, anderson looked 10 times better than him and i really want to see silva vs. gsp i think it would be an outstanding fight

    • raffy says:

You know what pissed me off was joe rogan saying that nate marqaurdt lost because of the illegal knee. That is crap and he knows it. Nate lost because herb smoker dean got the strikes to the back of the head point deduction wrong.

  • Jimmy says:

Anderson Silva wiped the Vaseline from his face on to his body before the fight started. Silva”s corner men kept touching his body in between rounds.

Anderson Silva greased his body and I was shocked that no one saw that since it was on camera. Silva cheated.

    • raffy says:

I noticed that as well. The difference though is that phil nurse actually applied extra vas directly to gsp’s back. Anderson just took what was on his face and put it on his chest.

    • chrisl says:

The reality is if Leites wants to challenge that he could BUT as with the “greasegate” BS it really doesn’t get you anywhere. If you watch most fighters they will wipe off some of the Vaseline applied above there eyes if it affects their vision. The minimal amount of Vaseline transfered from the eye to the chest pales in comparison to the injuries that can occur from obscured vision.

    • RJA says:

Yea,because if silva didn’t get greased up thales clearly would have dominated silva.I think the grease on silva was hurting thales’s eyes and knocking on the mat everytime he stared at silva to long.Well looks like grease gate 2.There should be a rematch.

  • bigchris2328 says:

I cant believe you guys are bashing silva. the guy is a smart fighter, he fought his fight. if you guys paid attention to any of his fights you would know that he favors counterpunching. he does get his opponents in a muay thai hold and knees the hell out of them, but only after they miss striking him. leites wanted a ground fight and silva at first thought he could handle him until leites was pushing the pace on the ground in the second round. silva shouldve snapped to the fact that leites is a WORLD CHAMPION BJJ guy. he submits other black belts. leites however should have started throwing more strikes, but he was scared and I dont blame him. I wouldnt want to get ktfo’d by silva either but this was a title bout, you needed to step up leites. both guys fought smart fights, but it wasn’t “exciting”. I personally had no complaints about it. the fans should not have been booing, I understand they paid money to see the fight, but dont boo. if you think you could do better get your asss in the octagon and fight against silva. I guarantee you will do what leites did and try take the fight to the ground to avoid being ko’d.

for you guys bashing leites and silva for a “boring” fight, take your buts to a mma school and challenge one of their fighters to a 2 round bout. I promise you will want to quit after he lands a few kicks or punches.

cmoores, kongo was 15 pounds lighter than Hardonk at the weigh in. kongo is more muscular, but he was leaner than that guy. looks like kongo gets the winner of mir-brock. Stann needs to develop some sub-defense he got worked on the ground. the first kimura that was attempted looked like it hurt a hell of alot more than the one that won. shogun looked impressive and I liked that he went for a kneebar when chuck gave him the opportunity, he didnt pass it. I dont know if shogun had the cardio to go full pace for 3 rounds, but he looked good. he was trying to time the overhand right, yet he put chuck down with a nice left. chuck… brother its time to retire. it seems to me that he cant see the punches coming anymore. chuck doesnt move his head like he used to, and I do not want to see him get ko’d again. Sam Stout looked good, but how the hell could you give wiman your back?!?!?!? he rolled into that and wiman shouldve done a RNC. wiman had the body triangle, but wiman looked like he gassed.

as far as a superfight between silva and gsp, I dont want to see gsp lose. silva will have at least 20 pounds on gsp, and the strength advantage gsp enjoys on his opponents will not be there. gsp still needs to get past the pitbull which will not be easy, and maia should get his title shot.

    • Justin says:

Dana said that was Chuck’s last fight in the post fight presser, but I didn’t hear anything from Chuck about that (I also didn’t see the whole thing.)

      • roughneckrobb says:

I don’t think it’s time for Chuck to retire. He needs to evolve along with the other guys and give it some serious thought. If he is willing to fight I am willing to watch. Also, he still has knockout power, so I think Dana is wrong!!!

  • T3chn3tnium says:

to see the best of silva you need someone like GSP to always put pressure on him.. the fact that both fighters are so good. they will bring the best out of each other. Happy 420 everyone ! :)

  • raffy says:

Very disappointing. What was up with lavine telling anderson that he can’t foot stomp? Is that a new rule? Hope gsp knock
    s anderson tfo.

    • Justin says:

It was a rule for Montreal, it was part of a “compromise” to keep the UFC there instead of having to move it to Vegas.

      • raffy says:

So do they change the rules often?

        Oh, and thanks.

      • Justin says:

No, not usually. This was a special situation. You can read more about it here.

      • chrisl says:

Raffy- they rarely change the rules(and almost never for just a city) but a few months ago after a disastrous hybrid show the Montreal AC checked out their set MMA rules and almost canceled the fight saying that the UFC rules were in violation of the rules Montreal has for “MMA.” The UFC and Montreal AC worked out a compromise and part of it was foot stomps being illegal for this fight only.

  • southcakalak says:

the bashing is ridiculous…if you absolutely have to bash…bash the contender for not fighting, not the champ who hasnt been touched in 42 years…the end

  • muaythai4life says:

they change the rules depending on where they have to. When PrideFC came to Vegas they changed their rules to forbid strikes to the head of a downed opponent (which I still think should be legal. Wrestlers would finally finish fights if they could knee someone in the head who turtles up).

Silva looked like Silva. Look his awesome KO’s have always come against aggressive strikers, or grapplers who don’t cover up well enough when they shoot in. When people try and play counter punchers with him it makes for a punishing long fight. Thales lost, bad, in all 5 rounds. A. Silva was never even close to being in trouble. Now it was a little drawn out, and I think Anderson look great in rounds 4 and 5 and totally could have looked like that from the start of R1, but a LOT of great Muay Thai fighters are slow starters, throwing 1 or 2 strikes here and there for the first few minutes to see how their opponent will respond. A. Silva didn’t throw a single punch for over a minute, he was just feeling him out.

  • ryan smith says:

please cut leities please… worst 25 miniutes in ufc history he wasnt even trying to pull guard he’d fall to guard and wait, it wasnt even a fight, was pathetic, and andersons post bout interview was horrible sorry i was boring but i have to during some fights? not when i pay 600 a year on ppvs..

  • chitown97 says:

It was a terrible fight from a spectator’s standpoint. Currently, UFC sells MMA primarily as entertainment, not as a technical competition. In return for their services, fighters receive compensation from UFC’s comparitively massive revenue stream and the exposure the promotion brings them. If you do not provide the entertainment, UFC is hardly obligated (outside of its actual contractural obligations to the fighter(s) obviously) to go out of its way to help you make a living or provide the exposure to generate interest in your MMA school, book, clothing line, etc. etc.

Silva may still be the best MMA fighter at 185 or pound-for-pound from the standpoint of his technical and tactical skills, but he has become a horrible UFC champion. He’s also put the UFC in a bad spot in that with two snoozers in a row his name alone is not going to be enough to headline a card and generate the interest and revenue that UFC has likely come to expect, which means either pitting him against a bigger name than his own (like GSP or any of several light heavies) or waiting to be put on the “undercard” with a big-time (co-)main event.

All that said, there are some interesting points of discussion to come from the fight itself:

Leites arguably had a sound strategy to “invite” Silva to the mat where he might have had the largest advantage (or the least disadvantage), but when it became obvious that Silva wasn’t going to play that game, why did Leites have no other plan? Why wasn’t his corner telling him to do something differently?

How truly dangerous must Silva be if trained fighters are apparently terrified to mix it up with him?

It’s been over a year since anybody put serious pressure on Silva in the octagon, and will be several more months now before he fights again — how will he respond when he finally faces a skilled and aggressive opponent? Will his training and ambition grow slack in any way? He’s not exactly young anymore…will his speed and power have diminished when they are actually put to the test once again?

GSP is already “big” and amazingly honed for the 170 weight class. If he goes up to fight Silva, does he risk losing some speed and conditioning, his physical “edge”?

With the depth of the Light Heavyweight division how interesting would, say, a Rampage or Griffin v. Silva fight be at 205, and would a non-title fight encourage Silva to be more aggressive?

Finally, how many F-bombs did Dana White drop in disgust during the 25-minutes of “action.”

  • joejoe says:

    yes! rua wins
    woot no surprise for spider
    yeah denis finally on track

  • timcat says:

Big Vinny now 0 for 2. lets see how long they keep him around with a record like that.

  • RJA says:

I can’t beleive the ammount of silva bashing. You guys acctually expect him to jump on a BJJ wiz and try to submit him?Silva has the belt it’s thales job to go get the belt.If he really wants it,which apparentlly he didn’t.Anderson threw every punch at him and thales just kept falling to the mat everytime he got to close.I was dissapointed to but i don’t think you can really blame the champ.I’m sure we will get a differnt result when he fights marquart, henderson, okami or hopefully GSP.

  • jiujitsuMAN says:

I always thought the job of the challeger was to challenge the champ… now lay down…

so stop the silva bashing, he was a frustrated as we were… you could tell by his shruging of his arms during the fight, everytime Thales ” lay down ” leites fell over he turned his back on him, and walked away.. even ives levine’s facial expression was like ” come on and do something ”

the fans were right to boo the fight, i was booing, but not on silva on leites, just like th rest of the bar was… after the fight everyone was talking about how the fight sucked cause “lay down ” was scared to fight…

i think liddel needs to do 1 of 2 things, retire on this loss, or get a new trainer… in hte pre-fight videos it just showed chuck going solo on the bags with no trainer screaming at him ” hands up hands up ” he needs someone to push him and show him some new ways of doing things… but can the old dog learn new tricks?

  • )jedijec says:

Im a fan of GSP but he will be defeated in his next match by the pit bull. Anderson is boring and looks like (no need for that jedijec) when he fights and im looking foward to seeing Nate Marqaurdt rematch. Nate is going to kick his ass. Nate is a BEAST

    *edit by FR702

    • ufcmanz says:

your a funny man Jedijec .. not even Marquardt is brave enough to call Silva boring or (good looking out ufcmanz) .. that a boy you write your to bullshit comments behind your computer screen.. Not only will Silva kick Marquardts ass next time , we could even throw you in with Marquardt in that match and Silva well still kick both your ass’s second round “murder my knees to the face”

  • bigchris2328 says:

I feel bad for chuck because it seems like he didnt have a say in whether he can fight again. after the fight joe rogan asked if it was his last fight, if it was time to retire, and chuck was like WTF?!?!? then in the post fight conference dana said it was chuck’s last fight. I doubt chuck had a say in it. Chuck should retire because I would hate for him to tarnish his reputaition/legacy by continuing to fight when his skills are diminishing.

Silva cant recklessly attack his opponents, thats how you get ko’d. however leites and his camp should have prepared more on his standup and wrestling takedowns. he had the right plan by wanting to take silva down like i said earlier, but damn dont go to the ground every 30 seconds. silva was pissed, but he cant force the guy to fight. I think the ref should have warned leites that he was going to take a point away in the 3rd when leites started that crap, then took a point away after the next two times when he went down, then warned him that the ref would rule the fight a no contest or disqualify leites. the UFC should have that rule implemented. dont bash silva guys, like i said he cant force his opponents to fight. the gsp-silva superfight will be just like the penn-gsp fight. gsp will get dominated. silva has a longer reach, is stronger than gsp, and gsp will play right into silva’s strengths by pressing the action. gsp does not have the ko power to ko silva, he isnt quicker than silva, and he is shorter and has a shorter reach. if gsp was a mw, everyone would know he would get dominated by silva. I am a huge gsp fan, and I think he is unbeatable, at 170. not at 185. he should not fight silva until he faces marquardt, okami, maia, bisping, hendo, wandy, cote, etc. then we could see how he fares at 185. everyone here got pissed when bj got a shot at gsp without facing a top contender at 170, why are the rules different for gsp at 185?

I would like to see how silva fares against the top 205 guys like rampage, rashad, machida, forrest. I think he will beat forrest, maybe get ko’d by rampage, rashad will be a slow developing fight, they are both counterpunchers, against machida it might turn out like the leites fight. both guys like to start slow and feel their opponents out. I would like to silva and fedor at a catchweight, over gsp-silva.

  • jeditec says:

Anderson sayes he wont fight Machida. Probly he knows Machida would tear him apart with his skills. Rashad is going to get his ass kicked by Machida and i cant wait.

  • Bzul3 says:

I really dont understand why people want to see Anderson vs Okami? Did any of you actually see that fight? Silva handled Okami pretty easy! And knocked him cold with a kick that is legal in the UFC. And Okami is a counter fighter just like Leitas and Maia. To be honest there just isnt anymore work for him at MW anymore. Let him cash in against GSP later this year and then move up to LHW where his real challenges will be waiting for him. Hes prolly a top 3 LHW right now. I can only see one LHW that can beat Silva right now and that is Evans(maybe). But I really hope they reconsider making him fight Maia.

    • chrisl says:

honestly it’s only to see the loss avenged. Chonan has lost so many times since it’s hard to give him title shot but Okami has done reasonably well. Would it be a big change in outcome of the first fight? Probably not but it’s just to “avenge” the loss.

  • Tech-Tition says:

    PLEASE RESPECT THE SPORT

’m pretty disgusted with the overreaction to the main event. Are you people that SPOILED??? seriously. Think about it for a second with some logic and common sense. The Greatest fighter in the sport displays his skills in a way that entertains and gets the job done fight in fight out. Regardless of the opponent. Him stalking Patrick Cote like a shark and wearing him down was entertaining as hell to me. And the fight last night in a sense was a breath of fresh air. Forget the amount of pressure on the spider to come in and single handedly destroy his opponents, he displayed some striking that u have to this date NOT SEEN in mma. The guy is as talented as they come. I believe he even used a behind the back reverse left crossover kick that LANDED. You people need to get ur heads examined and shut the F up. Its becoming a thing of the norm now where these “casual” fans who dont understand the sport whatsoever, have to find something to complain about after EVERY F-ing event. So anderson won this fight in style but didnt get the finish. Fisrt time since 04. And the Montreal fans disgusted me as well. Has GSP finished a fight in style in the last 2 years??? NOPE. Wrestle, lay on top, and pound. That is the BORING style, not the way Silva fights. U people r uneducated and it couldnt be any more obvious. GSP took fitch to a decision… WHERE was allll the **** talk then? He took BJ Penn (much smaller opponent) to the 5th round before getting the win. You people like i said need ur heads examined, or need to pull ur heads out of ur A-’s and appreciate watching a legend put on a show like he did last night. I enjoyed every minute of it. WATCH THE FIGHT AGAIN ( as with the cote fight ) – the guy displayed skill & confidence to the fullest.. WAR SPIDER, WAR SHOGUN….. SPIDER SILVA P4P KING ….

(GSP wrestles guys and lays on them for 5 rounds now, Matt hughes humped guys on the matt for 3-5 rounds, Tim sylvia used to stand in the octagon for 5 rounds and look ugly, Brock lay n prays and we will see more of that to come) – we get ONE decision from the true f-kin champ and people who have no lives and hobbies want to pounce on it…..go watch the post fight conf. CHUCK LIDDELL GETS ANGRY AT SNAPS AT A JOURNALIST FOR BEING SO STUPID TO QUESTION THE MAIN EVENT…HE STUCK UP FOR SILVA WITH ANGER…thats how i feel and i think all u people that couldnt appreciate the performance last night r all Douch bags…u r watchin Micheal Jordan, Muhammad Ali, & Bruce Lee all rolled in one……Spider Silva can do what he wants… He can do no wrong really…RESPECT the man ( if u enjoy watching two meatheads stand face to face and exchange punches for a couple minutes thats cool, but there are some of us who like watching strategy and tactics and intelligence displayed in a fight, a fighter who teaches u through his style how to avoid damage and display skill)…we put up with the slugfests and the casual fans should put up with the intelligence – its MIXED martial arts, not ONE martial art ) there r too many variables to the sport to want one thing from it, if ur in for a quick bang, then perhaps some other form of athletics would suit ur desires more ) …. RESPECT THE KING – he will be missed when he is gone

ps…worst main event ever??!!!!! gimme a break…u guys clearly must be new to the sport and dont remember when matt hughes and tim sylvia were champs….SYLVIA vs. MONSOON??? come on people…. give it up with the spider bashing cuz u all have man crushes on GSP….GSP won his last real title fight through a decision against fitch. Does the spider have to win every fight before the second round? I didnt see that anywhere in the rule books… UNREAL how some people are…

I was at the Bell Centre last night and spent top dog dollar ($550 CAD) and some of the best seats in the house. Seeing the UFC is always sick, and I had a great time. Here’s the thing though, the main event was beyond a joke. It was apparent that Leites was clearly a feeder and had no business in there. I haven’t seen the broadcast so I don’t know how many of you guys may know that half that crowd left during the fourth round. The streets of Montreal were pissed last night and I don’t blame them. I still had a great time and was glad to watch Chuck’s last fight. I’m sad to see one of my favourite fighters go out like that, but you live by the sword, you die by the sword. Shitty buzz.

Bzul3 the reason people want to see silva vs okami is because people want to see a ko by silva, thats it. a lot of fans are bloodthirsty and just want to see ko’s. yes ko’s are exciting, but I prefer a technical match and would rather see jiu jitsu aces battle it out. to me jj is more exciting, there is so much more happening when a jj guy gets his opponent on the ground and it is beautiful to watch sick subs by guys like maia, leites, etc. thats just me though. one of the most exciting fights i saw was chuck-wandy. that was a 3 round war without a ko. fights can be exciting without ko’s and a lot of new/fake fans need to understand that.

They get paid to fight, neither of them did, that’s why it was a joke. It looked more like Dancing with the Stars more than anything. Leitis should have never been given the title shot in the first place. I blame it on both of them for why it sucked.

If Chuck learned to keep his hands up and use his wrestling he could still be good. Everyone knows his style and how to counter it, that’s why he lost 4 of 5.
