The Ultimate Fighter 9 Episode 3 Recap
Two spots on Team US remain after John-David Shackelford and Christian Fulgium were sent packing on last week’s episode. Rob Browning and Frank Lester were tapped to square off with Jason Dent and Kiel Reid respectively for the final openings.
Before we get to the fights the US and UK teams as well as the fighters who must still fight their way onto the squad head to The Ultimate Fighter house. The fighters get along well, except for Browning, who opts to lob eggs onto the basketball court where the other fighters are assembled. Back in the house, Browning gets his drink on then gets into it with Team UK before eventually smashing an egg on potential teammate Jason Pierce, who wisely chooses not to respond to the instigator.
The next day is the first workout for both teams and the trash talking begins between Team US and Team UK coach Michael Bisping. After the workouts we’re onto this week’s bouts.
Frank Lester joined Team US after opponent Kiel Reid knocked himself unconscious when his head hit the mat during an attempted slam.
In the final elimination bout, Jason Dent filled the final Team US opening with a first-round TKO of Rob Browning.
Team US coach Dan Henderson wins the coin toss and will pick the first matchup on next week’s episode of The Ultimate Fighter 9.
With the final two bouts now in the books, the official US and UK teams are:

Thank god Browning got sent home. I couldnt stand him.
Browning sucked…I can’t believe they even gave him a chance to fight. Im guessin just for the drama…that kimura looked painful…his shoulder has to be f*cked.
I’m glad Browning is gone, and after they way that Reid reacted to KOing himself I’m glad he’s gone, too. That and the fact that he doesn’t open his mouth when he talks, that annoys me greatly.
I’m slso glad Browning didn’t make it. Both Brownings suck. Looking foward to an interesting seaspn though. Hard to tell what’s going to happen because there’s always surprises on TUF.
I hope to see Henderson and Bisping develope a rivalry before they fight at UFC 100.
How about Frank Lester acting like he destroyed Reid. I think he’ll be eliminated in his next fight.
You could be right about Lester. He definitely got dropped by that left hook early in the fight that put him on his back. If he wants to stand and bang in his next fight like he said he wanted to for this one, he better be able to take a shot better than that.
I gotta say it was painful seeing Reid pull a Grey Maynard out there
and hysterical to see Browning be beat like a little girl.
US team is $hit. No heart. Overly confident and don’t seem to be taking this opportunity as serious as the UK guys. You’ll be hard pressed to ever find a UK fighter without heart.
Team UK is taking the ooportunity more serious, we’ll see who has heart and who doesn’t as the season progresses. A lot of guys in past seasons have started out strong and hungry, but we’ve seen some of those guys give up along the way ao i’m not counting team USA out just yet because even though the fighters seem a bit too cocky,Henderson is a proud American and will give them an ego check and refocus their attention to the challenge ahead. But you’re right so far team UK seems more serious and hungry.
thank god browning made it into the house for all of a day before getting the axe. i will say this atleast junie won and got into the house before acting like a jackass. as for who has more heart and whos hungrier i think its unfair to say that the one team is more so then the other. now granted all the uk boys seem hungry ive seen heart from the us side as well example when bisping was talkin to i believe it was jason dent and the “dont kick the dog” guy. or afta the usa’s first training session when they came together that showed me a hunger too. a hunger not to lose on there home turf.
i think both team us and team uk has some great prospects here are my top guy’s in each weight class on each team
Team US WW- Damarques Johnson and jason pierce
Team UK WW- David Faulkner and Dean Amasinger
Team US LW- jason dent and Cameron Dollar
Team UK LW- andre winner and Jeff Lawson
I think the finale’s will look like this in the end though(a little early for predictions but hey i was bored)
lw finale- andre winner vs cameron dollar/ jason dent
winner- andre winner or jason dent
and
ww finale- Dean Amasinger vs demarques johnson
winner- demarques johnson
Personally I really didn’t like kiel’s attitude when he lost. Does it suck that you lose cause you KO’d yourself when you threw him? Yea that’s atough break. But you don’t go mean mug dude at the center of the ring and call him out like that after. I do think Lester is an idiot for saying how you clearly won that fight, he KO’d himself. Did you have his arm twisted like a pretzel? Yea, but its real easy to do when he isn’t offering any resistance.
I don’t think anyone argues that Rob Browning was good for the show. Atleast Junie was a decent fighter, Rob was just garbage.
My favorite part was when Bisping told his guys to act like Lester and pump your fists and say “UK baby” after every win, that was classic.
I can understand Kiel’s anger and frustration about what happened, he is a much better fighter than Lester. What a disappointing way to lose your spot, because that’s all he lost was his spot, he certainly did not lose that fight. This is somthing that all of these guys have fought hard for and I commend all of them for that, but Kiel is a hard working fighter and has been at this for years. Kiel, Mike and Terri from Jax Fl. are two of your biggest fans. We knew we would see you on UF eventually and we know that you will be back. Let us know where your next fight is we’ll come see you, your awsome.
I’ve seen the replay of the “self-ko” a couple times now, and from what I remember I really don’t see how the guy can say he knocked himself out. Yeah, he slammed him real hard. But Lester had Reid’s arm in an attempted arm bar when he was lifted up, when he was in the air, and when he slammed him. If the arm bar wasn’t there, Reid’s head would not have hit the mat at the exact spot that it did. Besides, who’s to say Lester wouldn’t have completed the arm bar regardless of the ko? Reid saying how he beat himself is like Chuck saying he knocked himself out when his head flew into Rashad’s fist.
Besides that, the show looks to be mundane. Sure the fights might be exciting, but other than that, blah. The guys all seem to get along, they set up house rules (which were important), and Henderson’s teaching skills (though it’s just from one episode) remind me of that supply teacher that just wants to get the F out of school. Hopefully Bisbing will get a rise out of him though. Also, anyone else hate how the two weight classes are so close to each other? You know the welterweight winner is just going to drop down to LW anyways. Let’s get some little guys, and some big guys.
It was kimura, not an armbar…
Key lock, arm bar, kimura, armlock, americana, omaplata, hammerlock; they all work the arm joints by bending the arm this way or that way.
Just because “they all work the arm joints by bending the arm this way or that way,” does not mean the names are interchangeable. There are differences in application and/or targeted joint for all of the different submissions you named, aside from “armlock” which describes the general category, not a specific technique.
