Here’s the thing about Diaz boxing skills… his technique is very good and he has good hand speed. If he was an amateur/olympic boxer he’d do very well because he’s accurate. That said he has below average power in 80% of his punches. He’ll always score with his punches and be able to grind out decisions but when he faces other guys that can muscle out of stuff or can neutralize his ability to score on his feet by taking him down and keeping him working his BJJ(sherk and riggs even). He’s the type of fighter who will win 75% of fights but isn’t the elite top tier guy at 170.

The crowd started out for Shammy Shamm but by the middle of the first you heard the annoying “209″ chant (Stockton area code clearly, which was at one point Fresno’s area code too, ehhhhh) he definately “won” over the crowd or perhaps the people from StockTown woke up and realized Diaz was performing….

I would contest exactly how much of that crowd was a Shamrock crowd, based on the fact that most of the boos fell against him, and the cheers for Diaz.

Im not a Frank fan myself, but u can not deny his contributions to Strikeforce. Truth be told, he was favored to win this fight and really hadn’t looked that bad in his previous fights. Granted he fought a stupid(not bad) fight against Cung Lee. But at the end of the day its like Frank Mir said about Kimbo Slice, “The guy couldn’t fight his way out of a paper bag, but if we fought he’s gonna get twice the pay that I do because he is the bigger draw and I understand that.” Its a sport and a business and Frank is still a big draw, which was proven by the attendance. The Frank vs Tito fight would be a rather interesting fight tho…..

Well it looks as tho you pick and choose things off of my statement as well, no worries.. I will accept your “angle” or whatever and I made myself clear the first go, as far as the PPV sales, to my knowledge the only place the PPV was offered was in Canada… Because it was on Showtime or you could as an option choose to pay 24 dollars for some special view shhhhh… Scott Coker made it affordable for damn near everyone to go to this event, StrikeForce is not just some random start up org, they know what they are doing… Ya it sucks that LiL Shammy Shamm got so much pay… It is what it is CC, I have no desire to get into an economic arguement with you, I know black and red, I know how to make and sustain money, soo thx for getting back to me enjoy your evening

To be clear, the statement was ‘run a MMA in the black’(profitable). Would appreciate direct quotes rather than what suits your purpose.

“He lowered prices “so everyone could enjoy the show.” Seriously? Reality: He lowered the prices to meet what the market could bear for his product. The gate barely covered fighter payroll and 60% went to one fighter.

I sincerely wish them good luck, but anyone suggesting these numbers show sound financial mgmt are kidding around.

Incidentally, it’s my understanding that although they had lower ticket prices the PPV was more expensive than a UFC – which in turn reduced the PPV market and profitability.
