Holy Crap – that’s outrageous. It doesn’t sound like these guys are wise about how to run a MMA operation in the black. Yikes.
If UFC is truly about the best fighters in the world, Diaz should be there as his record speaks for itself – even if he does aggravate a lot of people.
Diaz pissed off a lot of people in the UFC when he ditched them to fight in the GFC(which never got off the ground) and then again after Go-Go-Gate…
He’d have to prove a lot to the heads to get in again.
StrikeForce doesn’t know how to run a MMA org? Um are u kidding me? They have been around for quite sometime and if I’m not mistaken are the only “large” org that is making profit other than ZUFFA owned orgs (UFC & WEC), StrikeForce is NOT a start up newcomer to MMA, and in this one show made more money than the beloved Affliction, who is losing money hand over fist, furthermore just because the bought ProElite’s assets doesn’t mean that they are ran by ProElite people. Scott Coker who has been in the “game” for sometime now isn’t going to run the company into the ground. He lowered ticket prices so everyone could go and enjoy this show, if his ticket prices were like UFC’s I don’t believe that this card would have gotten 15,000+ people to attend, also with a near sell out Showtime is going to be pleased and the money made off of the viewership will be worth a pretty penny… Again StrikeForce isn’t some new upstart, and I believe that Coker knows how to run a MMA org more than um 90% of people that attempt to do soo…
Thanks for the feedback.
To be clear, the statement was ‘run a MMA in the black’(profitable). Would appreciate direct quotes rather than what suits your purpose.
“He lowered prices “so everyone could enjoy the show.” Seriously? Reality: He lowered the prices to meet what the market could bear for his product. The gate barely covered fighter payroll and 60% went to one fighter.
I sincerely wish them good luck, but anyone suggesting these numbers show sound financial mgmt are kidding around.
Incidentally, it’s my understanding that although they had lower ticket prices the PPV was more expensive than a UFC – which in turn reduced the PPV market and profitability.
Well it looks as tho you pick and choose things off of my statement as well, no worries.. I will accept your “angle” or whatever and I made myself clear the first go, as far as the PPV sales, to my knowledge the only place the PPV was offered was in Canada… Because it was on Showtime or you could as an option choose to pay 24 dollars for some special view shhhhh… Scott Coker made it affordable for damn near everyone to go to this event, StrikeForce is not just some random start up org, they know what they are doing… Ya it sucks that LiL Shammy Shamm got so much pay… It is what it is CC, I have no desire to get into an economic arguement with you, I know black and red, I know how to make and sustain money, soo thx for getting back to me enjoy your evening
Wow Hitomi Akano: $1,450. Thats what she gets for being tossed around like a rag doll? hahahahahahaha
Something tells me that she got some undisclosed bonuses to bring her back to the fight after she threatened to leave for Guyborg not making weight. Plus, I think she got 20% of Guyborg’s earning since she didn’t make weight.
yeah that seems like the lowest amount paid this year by a fight organization, especially for the beating she took….. anyone else think thats a bit low?
Clearly you never saw the payout of the “March Badness” event… Also she got 20% of Cyborgs earnings, and one would assume that Coker gave her undisclosed bonus’…..
The thing that I have issues with is that Frank Shammy Shamm is NOT worth that much money imo, and perhaps this was his last “huge” pay day but we shall see………..
damn imagine if josh’s pay was in there too…they would have barely made any money
Does anyone agree that Shammy got way more than he deserved in this. I mean 370k for him to me is outrageous he is not that big a name anymore IMO. I missed the fight does anyone know where I can watch it at… Justin I’m sure you know don’t ya?
I’m going to remember this review when Chucky Boy’s 300k-500k is announced.
I don’t know about the accuracy, but a comment on another thread gives a suggestion.
thats terrible that 2 fighters didnt even make more then a grand. if more competition is supposed to lead to more money for the undercarders i dont see it. i count 7 people that didnt make over 2 grand and that is absurd. i cant recall seein the ufc payin anyone under 3 grand(since its gotten big). it seems like people will complain about fighters pay only when its related to the ufc. i just did the math if u were to take the money away from lil shammy sham to give all those fighters atleast 3 grand he would still walk away wit 353,790 atleast.
Everyone whose posted on here knows of my disdain for Frank Shamrock. So it’s going to sound weird to hear me sort of defend him… he is largely responsible for Strikeforce getting its momentum going in the right direction. So the fact that he already demands a larger payday and the fact he did help them early on means he will likely have a great pay day. That said I am still not a fan and do not believe he is worth it but it most likely was part of 4-5 fight deal. It is the same when guys like Hughes, Liddell, or even Coleman get that much, they helped out early and earned their paydays early on and now they can enjoy the benefits.
The guys who don’t make a grand are typically are either not full time fighters or they are the Jeremy Horn’s of the world. That’s where it is good to have an agent of some sort.
Akano most likely made a pretty decent pay day in the end in order for her to have changed her mind on such short notice.
I just watched the fight {I Know way late}. I couldn’t help but notice the commentator keep saying how good Diaz’s boxing skills were to me I thought they were actually not impressive at all. Shammy is done or at least should be he looked absolutely horrible and against a guy who isn’t tough him-self. His “Diaz” punches didn’t look like they could have hurt a girl and I don’t even have anything against Diaz. I really don’t think he can hang in the UFC as people have stated. Maybe with his jits he’d have a small chance.
Here’s the thing about Diaz boxing skills… his technique is very good and he has good hand speed. If he was an amateur/olympic boxer he’d do very well because he’s accurate. That said he has below average power in 80% of his punches. He’ll always score with his punches and be able to grind out decisions but when he faces other guys that can muscle out of stuff or can neutralize his ability to score on his feet by taking him down and keeping him working his BJJ(sherk and riggs even). He’s the type of fighter who will win 75% of fights but isn’t the elite top tier guy at 170.
keep him from working*
I think that Diaz can hang in the UFC. For this fight he was 15 to 20 pounds heavier than what he normaly fights. I agree that his punches don’t look like they cause too much damage, but they do. He’s a good well rounded fighter and he would make great matchups with lots of UFC fighters in the 170 division IMO.
As For Shamrock, i’ll just say that all Shamrocks need to really hang it up. The only fight i would like to see Frank Shamrock in again is a rematch with Tito Ortiz so Tito can beat the hell out of him the same way he did Ken. Besides that i don;t want to see him fight, he talks a lot of crap, doesn’t back it up, he only wins against guys like Baroni, who at one time had a 10-10 record. Frank Shamrock also did not deserve all that money he got, he’s a big name, but not that big.
The UFC should give Diaz one more shot, i think he can be important at 170, i might be wrong though.
Hands together for Frank Shamrock, 370 thousand benjamins for just over 5 minutes work. That amout of money certainly makes the loss taste a lot less sour. Aslong as StrikeForce offer him those sort of pay days im affraid Ol’ Frank is going to be around for a few years yet
$850,000 for 36 seconds of work (Timmehhh) is still more ridiculous imo
I never thought of it like that!! Thats rather hilarious!!!
Yep that son of a fitch made $24,000 a second in that fight, he made hard working peoples basic yearly salary in every second of that fight, I hate you Tim Sylvia
Im not a Frank fan myself, but u can not deny his contributions to Strikeforce. Truth be told, he was favored to win this fight and really hadn’t looked that bad in his previous fights. Granted he fought a stupid(not bad) fight against Cung Lee. But at the end of the day its like Frank Mir said about Kimbo Slice, “The guy couldn’t fight his way out of a paper bag, but if we fought he’s gonna get twice the pay that I do because he is the bigger draw and I understand that.” Its a sport and a business and Frank is still a big draw, which was proven by the attendance. The Frank vs Tito fight would be a rather interesting fight tho…..
I would contest exactly how much of that crowd was a Shamrock crowd, based on the fact that most of the boos fell against him, and the cheers for Diaz.
The crowd started out for Shammy Shamm but by the middle of the first you heard the annoying “209″ chant (Stockton area code clearly, which was at one point Fresno’s area code too, ehhhhh) he definately “won” over the crowd or perhaps the people from StockTown woke up and realized Diaz was performing….
that the stupidest thing i have ever seen
