UFC 170 fittingly stayed in the welterweight division for the second straight fight as T.J. Waldburger took on Mike Pyle. The two 170-pounders squared off in a fairly one-sided fight that saw Pyle the victor after three strong rounds.
Pyle Finishes Waldburger
Veteran fighter Mike Pyle put on a strong performance tonight against T.J. Waldburger. The long-time UFC veteran looked strong in all phases of the game but it was his striking that was particularly effective tonight against the Texan. Pyle finally managed to put away Waldburger in the third round to get back in the win column after losing to Matt Brown at UFN 26. The loss is Waldburger’s second in a row in the Octagon.
It was over when:
Pyle will tell you it was all about his mullet but it was a hard right and a perfectly timed knee that allowed Pyle to use a guillotine to mount and eventually finish a dazed Waldburger.
While Pyle wants a top ten opponent for his next fight, the UFC likes to matchup recent winners together and that makes a fun bout with Stephen Thompson a strong possibility. For Waldburger, a possible change in scenery could be on the horizon after dropping to 1-3 in his last four.
