We don’t know what was the reason – having two well-known fighters or the live NASCAR event lead-in – but UFC Fight Night 36 garnered the second-highest number in terms of ratings for FOX Sports 1 this past weekend.
The show, which featured former UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida defeating Gegard Mousasi in the main event, was watched by 1.4 million viewers. That number is second only to the August debut last year on FS1, which had Chael Sonnen and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua in the main event.
UFC went up against the Winter Olympics and the NBA All-Star Saturday Night festivities.
The NASCAR race, which ended just moments before the UFC card was set to begin, averaged 3.5 million viewers.
